If you want to know why this clubs is special…

The Celtic Supporters Association Rally in the Kerrydale Suite last night was a complete joy.  On the way out I remarked that the club was in good hands with the Association.  This was their 64th annual rally, over generations they have protected and cultured the unique spirit of our football club.

For me, it was the third opportunity in a week to hear the Thai Tims, who performed an excellent set.  Paul Lennon of the Good Child Foundation is a real inspiration and example to us all.

It was also a great opportunity to spend a few hours with many from the CQN community, always a treat.  I know one CQN’er who is going to think twice before digging up Tom (“get your facts right”) Boyd on the blog again, just in case our former treble winning captain reads it and goes looking for him on a night out.

To continue the spirit of what we are all about, on Saturday 19th May there is a charity dinner in Glasgow for The Andrea Kearney Fund, which supports women who are diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy.  The fund in memory of Andrea, who was diagnosed while expecting her fifth child and died in 2008, aged 41.

It promises to be a great night for an important cause, I hope you can support it.  You can book tickets here.  I look forward to seeing you there.

You can buy a hard copy of the new issue of CQN Magazine via Magcloud here.

  1. I guess they didn’t give Gollum his usual bung. Either that,or the cheque bounced.

James, maybe you are better informed and know more than most about what is likely to happen in the coming days, weeks, months even years? Rangers’ intention has always been to dump debts and avoid taxes. HMRC know this as well. I expect HMRC are well prepared, as they should be with any business owing taxes. And this is an unusually high profile case involving personalities with…previous. The implications go way beyond football in Scotland.

The sky presenter just talked about, “Bill Murray,” taking over Rangers…

  4. Cheers Paul67. When I read articles like that I wish I still lived in Glasgow. HH!

  5. Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston:

“We need more clarity on Bill Miller’s plan for Rangers and how it will it structured.

“There is a feeling that member clubs see the commercial benefits of having Rangers in SPL, even if it is a newco.

“Member clubs are mindful of a sporting integrity aspect but the commercial benefits outweigh that.”

Well, he is at least honest enough to admit that sporting integrity comes a poor second to cash.

  6. Ach, Paul 67, scuppering my long post.

    A wee word, son.

I have been in union meetings, and been told after, that “my type” wouldn’t have got a job with them in the past, I know the score , son, how it works in bonnie Scotland.

    Let’s get something clear, ok?

rangers, as we know them, are finished, ok?

There will be no more laudrups, de boers gascoignes, etc. in our lifetime.

Have we been cheated? Of course we have.

I have been cheated out of buying in to see us play them, in the 80s and 90s, and long before that, when it was all a fix.

The question is, what do we do about it?

Do we throw our toys out the pram and say we are not playing any more?

Or do we say, we are Celtic, we will take on allcomers?

I say, we will never let the bastards grind us down, let them in to any league they want, we are the (real) people.

    What say you?

  7. Good afternoon Celts, Paul67 one day will you please explain you’re ref to Tom Boyd.

  9. Auldheid – when you said ‘I would expect’ I interpreted this as you think this is what will happen. Apologies if I misinterpreted your comments.

What you ‘expect’ would indeed be a strong punishment but it’s not gonna happen. I will be pleasantly surprised if any sanctions are applied.

There was a good debate on shortie earlier.. Cosgrove ripped into Spiers about partaking of the succulent .. Spiers said he liked Minty deep down , and that he thinks the book should be flung at the tax dodgers but it won’t because as was said above – cash comes before integrity..

Lest any should forget today marks the anniversary of the death of

Roibeárd Gearóid Ó Seachnasaigh (Bobby sands) on the 5th May 1981

“If they aren’t able to destroy the desire for freedom, they won’t break you. They won’t break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show.

It is then we’ll see the rising of the moon”

The 5th of May is a date that ironically doubly ties it to Irish Republican penal history. The 1st mass escape by Irish republican POWs from Long Kesh prison camp took place on the 5th of May 1976.

My Father was one of those escapees.

  17. Celtic are the Champions.

They have just drew 0-0 and are enjoying a BNP type rally.Their future is uncertain. They are extremely damaged no matter where they are playing next year. No-one saved them and they are morally bankrupt yet they will survive in some form or other. Too many in this country will not let them die but I still feel they’ll liquidate and that for me is some kind of victory.

I will be at Celtic Park, cheering on my team and looking forward to Champions League football.

In the interests of public order, I’d imagine they won’t want to be saying anything until the Big L hits.

I can’t see any way for newco Huns to be playing in the SPL next season.

  22. Algarvian – well said. We´ll be playing them next year just like we always have done except now they will be fielding a 3rd rate team with no budget for even a single top-drawer player.

When we were guff in the 90s, Celtic were well aware of the Rangers financial model, were well aware of EBTs and, I imagine, well aware of how Rangers were managing to sign the likes of Laudrup and co. Did our board complain then to the SFA or UEFA? Did the board complain at all over the last few years when we were pipped to the title and lost out on CL money? Even though they knew Murray was banrolling them with money they didn’t have?

Brian Quinn, John Reid, Peter Lawell and the rest of our exec have shown no appetite to eliminate Rangers. Sure, they’ll engage in wars of words over tittle tattle but our club will not put Rangers out of business even if it there is a proverbial tap-in opportunity in front of them.

As a few have suggested, PL’s aim will be to ensure Celtic play Rangers at least 4 times next season and that, for a few seasons to come, we’ll have the upper hand. End of.

  23. StMichaelsBhoy2 on

Correction – I can’t see newco Huns being allowed into the SPL next season without massive rule-breaking by the SFA and SPL.

    So it probably COULD happen.

Perhaps to those with an understanding of company law.

Otherwise to the rest of the population, and not least to the huns, it will be a seamless, uninterrupted continuation.

I’ve mentioned it before, but there was a post on the Rangers Media forum at the time that Salmond, Cameron etc were making comforting noises about the need to save the huns, that put the issue in a nutshell.

‘If the taighs didn’t know they were second class citizens before, they do now.’

The idea that the hun mindset will see them straight back in the SPL as anything other than as an endorsement of their whole triumphalist, supremacist world view is ridiculous.

The Celtic Board can stop this. If they fail to do so they are damning themselves and the Club.

  25. aldersyde avenue,

Michael Johnston says clearly that financial considerations come before sporting integrity.

Michel Platini has based Financial Fair Play on a principle that embodies the exact opposite.

I posted just last week about a collusion between the powers, the government, the police, hector etc. that the end of the season was always the goal.

Personally I don’t give a flying duck for them, it’s our club I care about, and I really hope they are not in any way party to any of this.

A newco will NOT be hamstrung like some are saying, they get ALL their income streams back, worth many millions.

That will well compensate for no euro football for 3 years, and even that may still happen.

The referees are still and always be the problem.

    From last blog..

Can we please stop all this nonsense about board apologists and mineshafters.

If your own position can only be bolstered by demeaning those who hold a different view, then I despair.

Celtic have limited options in preventing (if they wanted to) the survival of RFCIA in the SPL. They will oppose it and have said so, but that will not prevent whatever future OTHER forces want for RFCIA coming to fruition. That is the nature of the world they and we inhabit. No, I don’t like it either, but there you go.

The SPL will vote for the money option, and struggle to reconcile that with their moral duty. The EBT scandal will not go away, regardless of the FTT decision.

Celtic will protect their own interests, and push to have rules applied consistently and impartially – as ever.

The SFA have a bigger responsibility, cannot focus simply on the money option and they are answerable to Uefa, unlike the SPL.

Now that the MSM code of silence/ignorance/complicity has been broken, the genie is out of the bottle and will not go back in.

Miller is not the saviour the daft elements if the Scottish media make him out to be. He is a chancer in the same vein as, Murray and Whyte. Miller has had financial failures in the past and he is an opportunitist. That is the calibre of the people that their club is attracting; like vultures waiting for easy pickings.

They have no Fergus, they have no Celts for Change, they have no plan, they have a discredited and anachronistic cultural identity, and they have been run for decades by proven cheats, liars and fraudsters.

Thai Tims, Kibera Celtic, Gonso, Kano, Reamonn, Pablophanque, Four Horsemen, and we are Champions preparing for the Champions league.
