    Tom Rogic.

Of more significance , imho , is the renewal of his contract.

If the `news` re Arsenal and Tom R comes from the Scottish MSM, then your question becomes redundant.

On the player himself, he seems a bit gangly and this gives an impression of his being slow and awkward but he has qualities I like.

BRENDAN RODGERS has told Charlie Mulgrew he wants him to remain at Celtic and he WILL be offered a new deal.

Glad that Brendan thinks differently from our C.Q.N. Mulgrew rejecters.

Hopefully he feels the same about Kris Commons.

  4. I would only sell Rogic if we have a replacement of similar quality in the youth ranks. £7 million seems a bit on the low side to me, considering Everton just quoted Chelsea £65 for Lukaku….English clubs have went mental, we should be exploiting that if they want any of our players.

Thanks. Not working today, Docs later, but generally been finding a wee bit more time in last few weeks.

Exciting times ahead I hope. DD has clearly decided to reverse the European decline which is great news.

Seems the major obstacle to our challenge is being perceived as an ageing but decent midfield footballer. He’ll be chasing shadows v a BR assembled side.

100 goals plus for the hoops in SPL next season. When you score that amount you can let 40 in at the other end without too much too worry about.

Europe will need a bit more tactical awareness but I’m sure Brendan will be well aware of that.

Morning Boys. I have just been told by a Liverpool connection I have that Celtic are currently in discussions to sign Sergio Canos from Liverpool for a fee in the region of £4m. Apparently he is a 19 year old Spanish right winger who was on loan to Brentford last year and won their player of the year. I also believe that Klopp gave him his Liverpool debut in their last game of the season, once he had returned to Liverpool. Anyone else heard this info ? Hail Hail

Ronny Deila`s team, in the top division, gained more points, won more games, lost fewer games, scored more goals and conceded fewer goals than did Warburton`s Sevco in the second tier.

CM as squad player, great he provides reasonable cover in a few places – good idea to offer a contract as he fits into what BR was saying about a leaner squad.

CM as 1st team choice, not so much – I always find it difficult to pick a single player he’s better than.

I’m not in the ‘get rid’ camp. As I say good squad player. I wasn’t in the ‘1st team pick’ camp, as others are/were as I just don’t think he’s good enough.

As an aside this relates also to those that consider every player signed should be for the 1st team. They never seem to accept that some signings are for the squad and that’s the way it should be.

  21. Tim Malone Will Tell on

    Interesting about Charlie Mulgrew.

I only see Celtic once or twice a season and was recently up for the 3-2 game against Aberdeen.

With Charlie in central defence alongside Erik we looked very comfortable – and he isn’t afraid to have the ball at his feet.

  23. CultsBhoy - likes Brendan Rodgers level of ambition- well done DD on

Looking forward to A year of unadulterated indulgence…. The fans deserve it after a good few years of unadulterated downsizing ….

We have a good idea of how Rodgers likes to play so we can begin to work out who will stay and who will leave. I think younger faster guys stand better chance as long as they have technique.

Now Tom Rogic ticks those boxes apart from pace… It could be his Achilles heel ( pun intended)….

To be absolutely honest I’m far less concerned about arrivals than I am the prospect of getting shot of many of the frankly confounding signings of recent times. Lawwell has a lot to answer for as this legacy will stifle Brendan’s options for the short to medium term in the transfer process.

Even if we have to subsidise wages elsewhere I’d get a dozen or so out Asap to allow BR to work with his preferred smaller squad (music to my ears).

Any update on SB sales ?

I wouldn’t imagine they’d be interested in a player who struggles to play for 90 mins.

That said, looking forward to the game on Friday. I hope he plays.

CATHEDRAL VIEW on 26TH MAY 2016 9:24 AM

Does anyone have any information on what our club or any club for that matter is doing to challenge the spfl and SFA on the same club lie? This is the foundation stone of the fraud and cannot be allowed to survive.

Agree with you 100% CV. I’ve been banging this drum on this since summer 2012 when I first noted the change in narrative from the SMSM and SFA / SP(F)L.

To the “Follow Followers” of the Govan club, their history and their “world record 54 titles” means everything to them. Starting from scratch is unthinkable, and an anathema to their Marketing strategy. The ‘Holding Club’ fabrication is just one example of their desperation for continuity in the face of incontrovertible facts and legal statute. Our Herald ad positing our stance went unchallenged on point of fact.

The SFA/ SPFL role in this ‘same club’ myth is part of the general malfeasance and governance issues that are central to Resolution 12.

At this juncture can I say a huge thanks to the “4 Horsemen of the Resolution” for the inordinate amount of time and effort that has gone into getting this into the media and in front to UEFA. Please don’t underestimate their commitment or motivation. They are all great Celtic people and now deserve a break as their endeavours reach their denouement.

So it should fall to those of us with the will and the motivation to carry on that great work and keep the pressure on all parties to end this ‘same club’ narrative and have the record books set straight. The SFA must have inwardly heaved a sigh of relief when Hibs won the Cup as they then didn’t have to award the success against the record of the old club, thus catalysing a veritable furore across the land.

I’ve invested much angst on this matter and would have no qualms whatsoever in participating to help drive this agenda forward. Indeed I aroused much gnashing of teeth from the ‘same clubists’ last week after some pointed tweets on the matter. They hate the truth.

Any attack on their heritage and their sense of entitlement is unconscionable to them as I was reminded when re-reading this article from March in The National where Hugh MacDonald examines this issue …

Exactly 49 years ago I was on my first plane flight. Heading to Lisbon. I will never forget that day. As you may have seen on an earlier CQN article i am keen to get down in print the tales of those who were there as well as those with tales of family who were there and even those who stayed home to watch. There have been a few memories already posted in this thread but i think it is important we get them down before time takes its toll. Anyone who has any memories, stories please contact me on mick.maher67@vodafone.co.nz Hopefully as we enter the 50th season since that glorious one there will be a few more occasions that we can re-live in later years. Thanks

“theoriginalsadiesboy” – From previous thread- You might be right!. Drop me an email “kikinthenakas” and “martin42” – Not from Newarthill/Carfin myself but had family there. Used to go on Fr Gillan’s trips. Also in the 1970’s went to a good few away trips on the Newarthill Jock Stein SC which left from outside St Theresa’s. (Benford avenue?)

  33. There’s been a bot of discussion around the need to ‘help’ The Griffo out by getting in another top class striker given his lone feats last season. But I was struck by some of the stats in last week’s Celtic View which quoted the following scoring figures/scorers for the period of our greatest ever team winning the second ‘five in a row’:

65/65 season Joe McBride 31 goals/30 apps. (wow!!, and injured in December)

    66/67 season Stevie Chalmers 23 goals/28 apps.

67/68 season Bobby Lennox 32 goals/28 apps. (WOW!)

    68/69 season Willie Wallace 18 goals/32 apps.

    69/70 season Willie Wallace 16 goals/30 apps.

What is striking (pun intended) about those figures is of course that in three out of the five seasons no-one scored over thirty goals, the ‘magic’ target assumed these days for your main striker.

Obviously last season Ronnie won a watch with The Griffo avoiding both injury and suspension and scoring 40 goals, but it seems to be just as important to have scorers spread throughout the team if you are going to be successful

Incidentally, last seasons spread of goals/appearances (in all competitions, 57 competitive games) was as follows, as listed in the Celtic View:

10 goals/27 apps. Tom Rogic (despite a lengthy time out injured)

9 goals/24 apps. Kris Commons (no bad return for a guy who hardly featured?)

8 goals/43 apps. Nir Biton (despite not being his best season)

6 goals/23 apps. GMS (in and out of team)

6 goals/25 apps. Dedryk Boyata (depiite long term injury)

6 goals/23 apps. Callum McGregor (depite long spells out of team)

6 goals/11 apps. Paddy Roberts (arrived January, only payed last couple of months)

4 goals/30 apps. Stuart Armstrong (out a fair bit)

    4 goals/42 apps. Mikel Lustig

    4 goals/41 apps. Joe Hansen
