Ajax, Fenerbahce, Molde for Celtic

980

It’s a return to to seed Ajax, which is a good football draw, although the Ajax fans and Amsterdam police make it an unwelcome tie for other reasons.

Fenerbahce lost their Champions League qualifier to Shakhtar Donetsk before beating Greek club Atromitos in the Europa League play-off round. There were no easy teams in pot three, Fenerbahce are about par for the group.

Molde beat Dinamo Zagreb and Standard Liege, so deserve some respect, they will fear no one in this competition.

Happy with the draw, it could have been a whole lot more difficult but as always, we have to arrive prepared as there are no hiding places in Europe.

GOLFERS!

There’s a chance to win a round of golf for four of you at the magnificent Aberdour course, scene of the annual CQN Open, for £1. Taggsybhoy has provided this opportunity, to raise funds to support the Celtic Foundation’s work. If you want to cheer yourself up after a hard week, read about the Foundation’s work here.

But after you’ve read that, get onto ebay here and enter the raffle. You’re even allowed to win it for a friend, so pile in.

A box full of backpacks, pencils and cups for Malawi just arrived at my office (thank you) ahead of tomorrow’s collection at the Celtic Way before the game. Remember to bring along your old backpacks, pencils and handtowels if you have any.

They want CQN to enter a team!

    Any interest?

  2. AB @ 10.26

Pocket money or seed corn money in 94 to get the foundations built.

Real money spent in 99 to buy FMcC out and put himself in the driving seat.

It was possibly still is LCY Mk.2.

  3. Aiden. It actually finished when your namesake was sold for 10m before they died

Neil got about 6m and rest paid off the debt ( appeared in balance sheet )

We have reduced wages to a level that we actually make money now Did not happen when dead club was around

Pl was a hatchet man for Scottish coal. He has never been an investment CEO

  4. Some of the loan players were brought in last year to boost the squad and give Ronny numbers while he was able to assess what he had. Scepovic is not a Ronny type player and he has never really given him a chance so i don’t think he wanted him. Maybe PL done deals with agents with players who had been identified previously by Lennon or John Park.

  5. PF @ 10.26

He had one look at the squad and needed players pronto but had no money to buy players except at the PL sanctioned shop run by his — PL’s not RD’s — pet agent.

Players had to come from somewhere.

    Big week coming up.

RD’s authority on the line after the “scared” farrago.

If we are mince tomorrow with no fight or energy then RD better find religion AB style or start phoning for a taxi.

Clear out required — it will be “Deadwood 3 ” if my sense of history still works.

Six could leave at the very least — I fear a couple of cliques need to be broken up.

  6. Auldheid

You are of course correct in stating that PL was only following orders. However that was over 10 years ago. He has now become the instigator of policy as well as the guys who implements it.

The biggest call a board and CEO of a football club can make is the appointment of a new manager. The first manager that PL had a say in appointing was I believe the ill fated Tony Mowbray. When that went wrong he seemed to scratch around for a long time before confirming NFL. Lenny suited PL as he was young and inexperienced. He knew that if he knocked it back he would probably never get the chance again – so he took the job. He struggled initially but he had been schooled in some hard leagues and eventually got things right. His lack of experience showed when he was unable to convince his CEO to back him the way he wanted. That plus all the ridiculous abuse he had to endure meant that by the time he left it was probably best for both parties.

Then PL needed to find a new manager however he had already stumbled upon the bold Ronnie who no doubt talks a good game. A bit like all those aspiring heads and deputy heads who can perform brilliantly in interviews but perhaps not so much in a classroom!

DD is open to the idea of RK but PL by now sees that RK would be a threat since if RK wanted something he would have picked up the blower and been straight through to DD.

DD would probably have backed RK to PL’s disadvantage so he scuppered that. If anyone really thinks that RD was a DD appointment then they are sadly mistaken.

PL is part of the problem – perhaps he has become too stale – perhaps he is burned out but either way he is making poor choices that are ultimately costing the club millions.

A club like CFC needs an experienced battle hardened manager who know the professional game inside out. Anything less runs the risk of being embarrassed the way we were on Tuesday.

To me losing THREE goals in two games inside a week in exactly the same way is embarrassing!

    HH

  7. 2014/15 accounts out on Monday?

English bank holiday with the Stock Exchanges shut — maybe not.

However we are a wee bit late as it is.

  8. The anti-Lawwell brigade of numpties on here are not only 100% wrong – they are writing the biggest load of shite I have ever read.

Celtic provide their football management team with a budget of circa £35 million per year – it is what they do with this budget and, what this budget can buy in a crazy football world, where a centre-back signed from Barnsley, where he played 28 matches in two years, and who has played 54 games for Everton in two years, is subject to a £40 million bid and wages of over £100k per week.

Everton’s wage bill is around £60 million per year on the back of TV money of the same – Celtic’s wage bill is £35 million with £2.5 million TV money.

Can’t you get this through your nuts????

And to suggest that Lawwell or any other member of the administration, choose the players for the manager is the kind of logic one sees from toddlers in playschool.

I agree that we should be getting ‘more bang for our buck’, but is has nothing to do with Peter Lawwell.

Our players were involved, on Tuesday night, in the most financially important match in our 127 year-old history £20 to £25 million, not if they win, but, only to avoid defeat – and they ‘shit it’.

Can’t you Lawwell-haters read a set of financial accounts – if you can’t, ask someone who can, to explain them to you………..PLEASE

  9. mullet and co 2 on

Looks like the Man U centre half will sign on loan.

Ho hum. We develop someone else’s talent or hope they like it at Celtic. Denayer liked it at Celtic but he’s in Turkey now.

Who is scotland or a Ireland’s next centre half and why haven’t we signed them?

  10. ATTICUSFINCH @ 8:20 PM,

“Probably already been mentioned but thoughts on Kevin Nolan? Free transfer, hefty wage I’m sure but would add a bit of experience and also toughen up the midfield.

    Think that’s a sound shout.

Interestingly Enuff, when he transferred to West Ham, Paul67, used him as an example of the huge over-pricing of English Players*

He stated he was a journeyman. Many agreed, I thought the Hammers got a player and said I love him to be at Celtic Park.

A few years on now and in the normal scheme of things I would say – too late.

But where Celtic stand now, an experienced central midfielder with a bit of bite is exactly what we need.

He’s not going to get anywhere near the money he was on at West Ham and a two year contract won’t break the bank. He’s his own man, so he may think a few trophies/medals and European Football could make a great swansong to his career.

Also – What happens if Scott gets suspended/injured?

*Think he qualified to play for the Republic, but held out for England.

    Hail Hail

  11. Nolan would do us a turn but his wage demands will be too much and some championship club in england will pay him £30k plus a week.

  12. MULLET AND CO @ 10:43 PM

Who is scotland or a Ireland’s next centre half and why haven’t we signed them?

    O’Connell – we have:-)

    Hail Hail

  13. AOw

I nominate dallas dallas & jimbo67 for the team.

good night all see you tomorrow

    C’mon the hoooooooooooooooops

  14. Amazed at these peter lawwell lovers

    They have no clue

Let me spell it out for you

Please don’t mentioned EPL and Sky TV for reasons we can’t compete

Malmö. Maribor etc recieve no money from Sky TV but they invest in their team

  15. Vintage 67. Time to say goodbye Ronny. on

    Is Ronny still here?

Glad to read my official email from Celtic just now all about our European adventure against Ajax.

Not a sniiff about how absolutely gutted the fans are or where the team should be right now.

    Well they wouldn’t would they?

    Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas.

    Pravda.

How long now have we been in what i would like to call, THE STERILE ZONE

    Every year we achieve nothing.

With our funds and purchasing power, even with MANAGER MEDIOCRE, all we need to do is turn up at the SPL for the trophy.

Is that it? Is that what we have to look forward to?

The same old boring insulting tripe served up.

If CELTIC PLC was an investment manager it would analogous to the one who charges 5% in fees and gives you an annualized 2% return before tax.

I can’t begin to express how shockingly hypnotized and numb the fans have become. Completely oblivious to the robbers at the top who RETURN nothing to the club apart from under performance.

Meanwhile they gorge on the hard earned money of the fans, snouts firmly in trough, and return only what is processed at the rear end.

Time for a big change at Celtic.

PL is responsible for serving up MUNDANE manager after manager usually ON THE CHEAP.

We recruit our leaders from the Ice Cream van, in terms of cheapskate luck bags.

    NO VISION.

    GARBAGE.

And when we get pumped and dumped in the EL, we will all have a wee moan and look forward to the Hearts game at Tynecastle or Aberdeen away.

In the meantime the SNOUTS ARE IN THE TROUGH

And when they come up for air, they are LAUGHING at us.

  16. Taranis

Can’t play the YouTube tracks on my old I-pad, though I can post them.

What was that ‘best ‘ Stones tune?

  17. Croppybhoy

So it’s all Lawwells fault ? Since you’ve got all this inside information can you tell us who Peter isn’t going to sign by Tuesday ?

  18. Mr pastry…

I’ve read some of your posts, some you drift into politics of which I ignore.

You post some facts that back up your football knowledge, especially in Celtic.

Are you actually happy that we are on a downward spiral when there is money available to stop it?

Let’s take the gloves off, the huns are getting every assistance to get to the Scottish top table. Re the press, spl and every dug and his bone.

Would you lighten our purse strings to ensure we do well in Europe and keep the dog in it’s kennel?

  19. Sipsini- have you had a ssnatch at the questions?

No all the questions were written by Neganon2

Q1 – where did the Seville money go?

Q2 – where did the Fraser Forster money go?

    Q3 – where did….

    ..you get the drift :-)

All questions are of course about the Hoops.
