Alan Muir, what a performance, FAC, Nadir

394

There was no vandalism, pitch invasions or general misbehaviour at Fir Park on Saturday.  What we had instead was Motherwell and Celtic fans engaged in a collective protest against the Offensive behaviour’ Act.

Fans Against Criminalisation put the issue plainly:

“Every single mainstream opposition party in Scotland opposes this Act, as do many notable lawyers, sheriffs, political commentators and Celtic Football Club.

“We call on the Scottish Government to accept that this legislation has achieved nothing other than to criminalise ordinary football fans and to repeal it as a matter of urgency.

“The Scottish Government cannot reasonably expect football fans to meekly accept the harassment they face nor the attacks on their rights to freedom of speech.”

Delighted to see Nadir Ciftci grab a poacher’s goal on Saturday.  This is the kind of goal he should be scoring lots of.  Hopefully it’ll become a more regular occurrence.

Well done to referee Alan Muir for an outstanding performance on Saturday.  It takes a lot to turn in that kind of performance, don’t think it’s easy.  Put yourself in his shoes (with Motherwell facing different opponents, obviously).

Think of the pressure you would be under to give one or both of those penalties.  It can’t be easy to have watched Kieran Kennedy take the legs from Scott Brown, then dive to save the ball with his hand, and tell everyone that no offense took place.  Don’t underestimate how hard that was for Alan Muir.

You’ve just described the types who have colonised Tooting in the name of ‘gentrification’

  3. SFTB I hadn’t read your original comments so was not making any judgements on anyone else just putting forward another point of view. I tell the common folks here that rugby is a private school game in Scotland. Played four seasons myself as our pe teach played for Glasgow South and I missed out on the one and only football XI team. Started at scrum half where us 12 year olds played against bearded bikers and by the time I was sixteen the original taps were stretched a bit. So I fit nicely in the kiwi culture but don’t take it too seriously. My youngest daughter will make me get up and watch the AB’s in the semi’s and final, price to pay.

  4. I have to say that I am slightly heartened. There seems to be a growing realisation that DD and PL are running celtic in an unacceptable manner. That they are in fact betraying all of us on the alter of DD wanting to make some more money.

As a by product of this they are both dragging us back to the concept of the old firm. In doing so they are saying we are happy to be the victim of racism.

The death of Rangers was always a major risk for celtic – not because of any financial hit but because of the veil being lifted and all of us seeing that those who run celtic are part of a rigged game. Sadly it have proven thus. For celtic to truelly survive and thrive the answer is not go to England. The answer is for the current board to be removed and for us to reinvent ourselves.

Its a sad truth that we are aping the huns here. They are holding onto a big lie to retain their baggage. We are holding onto old concepts and structures to do the same (albiet our reasons for this arent supposedly about survival but about making DD more money). Either model is a busted flush. Sure celtic can limp on for a while but once the true horror of the huns being back, pretending that nothing happenned, blatent cheating, a silent and compliant board at CP then the support while either drift away or start to revolt – but by then its too late.

In all of this I would like to declare that CQN has failed in its attempt to distract, to misinform, to mislead the support. All this pointing at the hun position has been fun eh? But of course CQN hasnt sought to examine Celtic’s position in all of this. That has been studiously avoided.

Despite being heartened at what I see as a growing recognition of the reality this doesnt change our position. Those who run the club (and I believe those who run CQN) are in utter denial that there is a problem. They believe that celtic are a very well run club and that all is rosy. Nothing could be further from the truth. The club has alienated the support and continous to be weak in the face of the normal adversaries – this is simply because it couldnt care less about results on the field. It only cares about money.

We have very little tools at our disposal to tackle this board. They dont want to talk to the support and will ignore us ad nuseum. Some have taken the choice to stay away but having done that myself I recognise how hard that is. Unless we do it in numbers it will have no effect.

SLowly our once in a century chance to change the game is slipping through our grasp. What do we tell our grandchildren when they ask why we are still a subjigated, cheated minority and when the media and scottish historians pretend the last 4 years didnt actually happen?

  5. Suddenly, we are in a place where there are no ‘honest mistakes’, where things don’t ‘even themselves out’ and where we’ve every right to be ‘paranoid’.

There’s a part of me that would like to think you are right – some form of Rangers will come back to the top tier and after a while the fans will drift away, realising the game is more corrupt than we ever thought possible.

Unfortunately I think the opposite is true – some form of Rangers will come back to the top tier and the attendances will rise. The accounts will subsequently show PL’s claims of £10M lost to be correct. We’ll see a better class of player brought in, all while balancing the books and we’ll start featuring in the CL more often. Almost every reason that fan’s have for being negative about the club will be removed and all will be rosy.

There’s more in there supporting your view than opposing it.

During the Fergus years….the year that the hun establishment knew that, Celtic on the pitch were weaker just after losing our best player of the early 90’s – Johnny Collins – the mibs….Willie Young in particular…was a b#stard-personified…and, went out of his way to ensure that the huns would get 9 in a row….throw in the Jorge Cadete goal at ibrokes as well although, that was Jim McLuskey.

  17. Up to now it doesent look like the club are in any dialogue with the SFA on the officials performance at Fir Park on Sat. Of that personally I am disappointed .

I’m not happy about a lot of things during that game and after it either, but I’ll keep my powder dry and wait to see what happens.

Needless to say the goings on of that game have brought back the usual suspects regurgitating the same old same old, honestly they bring nothing to anything Celtic, the agenda just keeps the way it has been, on how the club are being run bad?

There’s no doubt in my mind they are salivating on a poor performance in Norway from us to suit there agenda, of that I have no doubt, ohhhhhhhhh they will tell you……..oh no I always won’t to see the team doing well and winning…. They care not a jot about Celtic results it doesent suit there agenda it’s all BS, even when Celtic get a great result and they have post something nearly saying nice things it all ends up with the same boring post on where the board are going wrong.

The sham at the weekend upset me really it did, others use it as a tool, me I took it personally and will keep it that way, it is what it is.

We are Celtic we play in Scotland and we are cheated regularly that is the way it has been since I started watching football many years ago.I would like it to change and be a fair playing field for all but I am realistic and know it is very unlikely to happen. When you get half a dozen or so Celtic supporters together you will find that there are six different opinions on what should be done about it.Now over the past few years we have seen cheating of the highest order taking place regularly with the Ibrokes mob and as I see it very little has been done about it.Now to get any change the majority of football supporters (not just Celtic ) would have to agree not to support the status quo and put forward an agreed set of new rules and conduct and I think there is as much chance of seeing pigs fly as that happenning. As I see it things will go on as before and we will continue to moan. H.H.

  21. Kev J,

You like to live in your own wee fantasy world were everything in the past was always rosy.Fergus was bad,Mark Mc Ghee,Murdo mc Leod were heroes.Murdo now one of the biggest “Soup takers”.

When ever ,in our history did any board of Celtic ever come out and condemn the Huns sectarian signing policy since their inception?.The biggest scandal in Scottish football for over 100 years.Never,is the answer. They were all quite happy to sit back and let it fester. It was good for business.Hence the term “Old Firm”.

The whingers moaning every day about the present board would have been apoplectic back then if the internet had been available. Some people need to get into the real world. If a Hun team competing against Celtic is good for our business, then thats just the way its always been. Not this boards fault. Its the way it was set up to be many moons ago by people who are legends in Celtics history

I find it impossible to believe past boards, during the Huns EBT,9 in a row did not know what was going on at Ibrox.Did they open their mouths once?.No.

Keep living in your own wee world, but believe me,its nothing like the real one outside..

  24. Rugby ? .

Not my thing ———- no interest at all . Never watch it ..Don’t give a fig who wins or loses . . Nearest I’ve ever been to a game was participating in the Anti -Apartheid protest at Twickenham in 1969. .

But —— Rugby is significantly on the rise in Italy and Sicily . Big rise in the number of people playing it , big rise in the number of schools offering Rugby , big rise in attendance at games , big rise in the TV audience for Rugby . .. A common explanation for the rise in interest re Rugby is that it is seen as being relatively free of the corruption and the violence which surrounds Italian football.
