    Philbhoy…I hear ya…I do…but

We have some kind of fallback up front.

Our fall back in defence is more desperate and juggles too many players out of position.

Im a big believer in settled defence. Especially teams like Celtic who are on the front foot 90% of the time. The defence should be tested rarely but needs to be focussed and coordinated when the tests come. That is best served with continuity to get familiarity.

We are constantly disrupted by changes.

  2. My friends in Celtic.

Its only my opinion, but I’m fed up reading about the financial disparity . We know this, both European and domestic there is a sizeable gap.

In the cold light of day I think this post is worthy of a bigger audience :-

    “SANDMAN on 18TH OCTOBER 2017 11:41 PM

I don’t mind a hammering as long as the greater opponent proves their laudable worth against out best efforts, buuuuttt….

Not read back, don”t really care for any platitudes.

    TRUTH:

    Utter pish.

Never at it from the off. No tempo. No gameplan. No conviction.

Sit in and wait for THEM to do something = recipe for what we got.

Or should have got. It was 3 going on 7.

I’ve praised the bhoys for every CL effort – but even the 0-5 shafting v PSG was a more creditable effort than tonight; outplayed as we tried manfully to counter it.

We had no rhythm or focus. We looked like we expected a tanking. Nobody, including BR, showed any belief. Everyone looke dof ftheir game and wishing they were in front of the telly rather than on it.

It was like being a Hun v Us.

Gordon forced into ridiculous passes every time when it was obvious BM had sussed us. Incredibly one-dimensional football. Incredibly lame adherence to failing tactics. Incredibly timid performances from players we NEED to stand up and be counted.

Couldn’t deal with the Bayern high-press; did nothing to counter it. Sad to say Paddy Roberts looking like a terrible waste of cash – pitiful decision-mmaking at crucial moments. Maybe I’m wrong to single him out but comparisons with JF when he came on – direct, purposeful; there’s something amiss about PR since we got him back. Lose the label, kid; start proving the myth.

Aside, we did NOTHING that has marked our famous CL performances; no tempo, no aggression from the start. We sat there and took it, from a top-quality side who must have thought Xmas was early; unforgivable. And unfathomable from a squad I thought had learned how to combat superior quality in the CL.

Piss-poor all round. I hope they blow it away on Saturday and shake up the mindset for the Bayern return; you either get with it or get seen to in the CL; that’s twice we’ve been caught like virgins in a brothel.

Get a grip ffs, Celtic. Kudos and commiserations to the phenomenal away support.”

    HH .

  3. Hello again all you young rebels.

” Is it possible to hire these crazy Celtic supporters?

    Munich asks.

Well it doesn’t matter how much money those mega rich clubs have

they could never ever buy what our club has, that amazing support.

I suppose it would be great being one of the top six clubs in the world

buying a multi million pound mercenary every year to sustain that

position but where is the heart and soul of the club?

Personally i’m happy being the underdog or as some people think the

second class team in the CL it’s what has galvanised us since our club

was formed, fighting against a corrupt establishment.

I got what i expected in the game so i wasn’t too disappointed but all

i did was keep rewinding CTV back to watch our fans, after 60 odd years

supporting Celtic you would think i’d seen it all, but as a legend once said

” they are there and they always will be there”

At our CSC on sunday we had people coming from all over Oz just to be

part of a Celtic singsong for goodness sake, thousands of miles from

Celtic park thats what makes us special one young bhoy had travelled

most of the day on a bus a train and a few hours ferry crossing to be with

us, so Munich just o let you know you, can’t hire that kind of devotion or

    dedication

    H.H Mick

  4. Nobody is saying that we can buy, let alone afford to buy defenders that will keep out the top players, I have not seen a single post saying this, yet the excuse is trotted out time and time again that it’s a waste of money buying defenders.

We got lucky with the qualifiers again this year, we have for us heaps of cash available yet we still didn’t sign any defenders.

We have not had a settled defence for long enough, we should get away with it in scotland, but in the CL, not a hope, in the europa, it depends on who we play, if we go in with a makeshift defence we will be crucified.

  5. I can’t agree with some of the comments particularly those of Sandman.

Some posters saying we were deplorable, I disagree, thought we kept at it & created 3 or 4 excellent opportunities, Yes I know they could have had a few more as well but they are a top European side we are not. By European standards we are journey men and sadly will remain so unless and until we get access to the same amount of funds as the major teams.

Overall. there are two teams on the pitch and if one team have significantly better talented players than yes they can make the opposition look poor.~

I’m not being wise after event I have said pre-game that I believe Dembele is a better European player than Griff and he should have been on from the start. However perhaps he is not back fully & Brendan felt there was only 20/25 minutes in him.

Of course Jozo was a big loss, he is a class player but unfortunately seems injury prone which is a source of worry & frustration to all of us. We also had a bit of bad luck with the South African kid we were chasing but there is no doubt that sorting centre half issue is the priority issue next transfer window.

Finally I believe it’s a mistake to go toe to toe with the top sides and I would err on the ‘Park the Bus’ side.

However Brendan is adamant that he won’t do it, I may disagree with him on that one but I’m just a fan I can mouth off like anyone else but that’s all it is, letting off steam, it makes feck all difference to anything.

Anyhow I’m relieved yesterday is over & looking forward to my next trip to Glasgow for return game.

  6. Just another scoreline for Celtic’s many critics to ponder: April 2013, Bayern Munich 4 V 0 Barcelona. Time out for reality checks.

    Well said Mick…Great Post.

Funny enough when my head came off the pillow this morning. I was still a Celtic supporter.

At least Celtic FC and Celtic supporters all around the world have SOUL ! Ye canny buy that… no matter how many billions you may have.

i can only guess and hope that some ( if not all those Celtic Players) from last night may be somewhat angry and even more determined than ever to show how good we can be on our day, and our Bhoys have an excellent opportunity on Saturday v Hibs to put last nights result behind us.

I wouldn’t like to be up against any Celtic squad who are angry, here’s hoping The Hibees will feel The Celtic Force this weekend ?

  9. The Battered Bunnet on

I understand Brendan’s approach to these games – he’s teaching the players what they need to do, and be able to do, to compete with the top teams when playing his preferred system.

The painful reality from last night is that, with Kimmich overlapping Robben in one side, and Alaba doing the same for Coman on the other, our full backs simply couldn’t cope with the very little support offered from Sinclair and Roberts.

Time and again we were outnumbered in the wide areas, time and again Bayern created chances accordingly. Ditto PSG. Ditto Barca.

For me, the lasting simulacrum of the game is the image of Sinclair, having been being released to run at pace down the left, and having being caught by the sprinting 35 yo Robbins and dispossed, watching forlornly as Robben raced away on the counter attack.

You could pick any number of similar situations, left or right.

Neither Roberts nor Sinclair are too old to learn, but it’s down to Brendan to make sure they do. With each passing game against the top teams, the lesson seems to be absorbed at a discouragingly slow rate. Sooner or later we’ll have a must win game against a good attacking side and Brendan will need to consider whether we should continue to prioritise attacking and risk a humping in the attempt.

    Saying that…

… due to an over-running nail-bar appointment (gen up) I only saw the 2nd half live. I thought Armstrong in that period was very good. Most of the good things we did centred on him taking the ball, changing the direction of play, and finding his man. I was surprised when he was hooked, although perhaps Brendan was mindful of his fitness.

I although thought Dembele looked as sharp as I’ve seen him this season.

    Anyway, back to work.

  10. I loved it the other times we reached the last 16 beating the Manchester United and Barcelona on the way. But we had, under Martin, Neil and Gordon, adopted a highly pragmatic approach to the game. It can be done that way. We’ve seen it. But you can go no further. BR’s way is open and exciting when it works and we’ll only know how good we are when we try it. We have brought in and promote talented footballers in the main. I don’t doubt we could have lost 0-1 last night with a far less talented bunch with a style and method that is risk averse and unexpressive.

  11. BIG JIMMY

Nice to hear from you again, when i read your posts

i often wonder if i’ve had a drink with you in one or

other of those Gallowgate pubs, especially the

Tolbooth or McKinnons for the early breakfast pint

but my regular haunt was Bairds or Lynch’s.

    H.H Mick

  12. Ernie Lynch

Granted. We haven’t been playing well recently and our results reflect that. However, we are still top of the pile by some margin in Scotland but we’ll need to up our game against Hibs and Aberdeen.

My point remains; do we try to buy better players at inflated prices (driven by the big leagues tv cash) or do we develop our own and see where we go? Do you want to see Celtic in a souped up league paying silly money on transfers and wages?

Last season, once the Euro fixtures were done and we had a full squad, we looked a good side. Dedrick and Jozo looked classy and gave us a solid platform to build from defence.

We have a proud history but in the modern era we are stuck, just like Benfica and Ajax, in a diddy league with no access to big tv monies. I’m not too despondent and think we’re doing as well as can be reasonably expected. We are lucky to have such a fine manager and, when the time comes, we must ensure his replacement is from the same top drawer.

  13. VFR/Corkcelt.

Thank you for, in my opinion, two sensible posts you have saved my sanity.

I was ready for my first flounce :-)).

A very hard read back, some at the wind up ??? some living in the past (glories) and some bordering on delusional.

Yes, there is always room for improvement, no one is saying there isn’t but!! we were 33/1 to win last night, that’s the reality of where we are, we can only do so much, little by little. We have improved since Brendan came and all I ask is we strive to continue to do so.

    Hail Hail

  14. The CL is the same as the EPL, only about 3 or 4 teams can win it, the rest are happy to be there and take the money.

  15. PAUL67 has POSTED a NEW ARTICLE ages ago.

    Didny tell us again.

  16. Gooood Afternoon CQN

We need to accept we are playing better teams than we will ever meet in Scotland, and will be shown up for that in some European games.

We need a fully fit squad to be able to put in a decent showing for pot 1 and 2 teams

It is a concern though on the high number of players we appear to lose to injury on a regular basis, and need to get to bottom of this ?

  17. We make it really easy for a lot of teams,by constantly, given the ball back to opposition players, which we done last night,,and the truth is we are the best in the S P F L,
