Blackett, Christie and our biggest spend in 14 years

846

Tyler Blackett’s arrival, announced moments before halftime on Saturday, was welcome. He’ll immediately push Izzie, who has had no real competition for the left back berth since arriving at Celtic five years ago – an incredible situation.

The Ryan Christie situation surprised me. Ryan performed well against a Celtic defence in a state of flux earlier this month, as he has done previously against us, but it will certainly a curious signing (this morning Inverness Caledonian Thistle announced they have accepted a bid from Celtic).  More on these two later.

As for rumours that we’re about to spend more money on a player than we have since John Hartson arrived 14 years ago……. Well, that is a change of pace. On top of this business, I’m sure there will be more comings and goings in defence, and elsewhere.  Stay tuned……..

Thanks to everyone who entered the raffle for the Golf Day for four at Aberdour.  Taggsy informed the winner (Gerry) by email this morning.

Good luck to ole Lukasz Zaluska signed for Darmstadt

I’d like to hear Awe_naw’s take on that as he has a wee soft spot for “der Lilien”

    Well done Starry.

  3. I see Markovic has gone on season long loan from Liverpool to Fenerbahce, good player, does that signal fear on the Turkish teams chances of qualifying against us,or fear on Liverpool`s chances on meeting us later in the EL? ;)) only asking.

Outs, Stokes, Scepovic, Boerittger and our Efe. Who will the next whipping Bhoy be!

Could Johansen be a surprise exit!

I fear now we will be judged on the Striker we bring in or don’t bring in.

As you say watch this space.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  5. Only concern is average age of centre backs. They will need to be protected by Brown, Biton et Al and team formation and tactics, especially in Europe.

Don’t want Fletcher, hope that’s a non starter. Too lazy and not half as good as people think he is.

And even if we miss out on wamyama sell on fee we will get it eventually, he will go at some point if not now.

I think Johansen may be the surprise departure. Well covered in that position with Christie being added to Armstrong, Allan and Commons.

Sometimes I feel that rivalry prevents congratulations being offered when they are due on this site.

it seems to ignore big stories which make the news on the MSM

When Marked Wartbottom`s team broke the record for his club`s most wins on the trot , it should be mentioned here – to avoid looking churlish.

So a big well done to him and his 3 year old club for smashing the 7 in-a-row streak – a record which had stood for an incredible 4 days.

I gave dropped TBJ a text message

Lennybhoy – is SJ the player I was hearing about last night ?

    Who would buy Johansen?

Malmo – and we’ll meet them in next year’s CL playoff. We know the result already.

I heard there had been a wee blow up on the training ground ? no idea of players involved, but included management team

No show in squad Sat, so I’m only putting 2 & 2 together, on player involved.

Read a few weeks ago that Norwich were interested ?

Biggest spend since PL took control?

    Took him long enough.

  12. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Hope the Fletcher thing is just paper talk. Would rather have Willo Flood.

Not sure about Michu. Quality player, but sometimes looked like he was taking it a bit easy.

I HEARD HE WAS DEAD on 31ST AUGUST 2015 12:20 PM

    Who would buy Johansen?

Dress him in a bunny costume and Duracell might buy him.

  14. I will be very surprised if we get a decent fee for Stephan Johansen.

    His passing is poor.

    His tactical awareness is poor.

He is too light in the tackle for the EPL.

    Just can’t see him going.

    Hope I’m wrong.

Now as for Kris Commons ,Ronnie has ruined our 30 goal a season man.

Wouldn’t it be nice if he just played him in his best position ,and backed him.

Forget all this running about like a headless chicken stuff.

I’m not impressed with Ronnie one bit.

  15. A lot of focus on Izzy who in my opinion is the least of our worries…

Stable door behaviour now in evidence from our Board. Might have been good to have spent beforehand to give us a chance to clear a mediocre hurdle last week.

Virtually an admission of failure and an insulting presumption that bringing in players now will appease supporters.

Ryan Christie is a tidy player but an inferior Scott Alan. He’s obviously one for next year but I hope that he’s one we are developing to sell not an excuse to further down size next year.

I’m wondering what the Board’s limit is for midfielders.. We must be reaching it?

  16. Was chatting to Aiden McGeady last night for about 15 mins. He was on my flight to Dublin from Glasgow. He was meeting up with the Ireland squad. He was up seeing his family for a few days as he was left out of Everton squad for Spurs match. He told me some very interesting things about Celtic and his time there.

By the way he is hoping to go on loan to Sunderland today or tomorrow but Everton are wanting 1.5 mill as a loan fee and it could prove a stumbling block. He is a nice bloke to be fair. He was asking me about Celtic and the current squad and what I thought of the team. He was pretty gutted re Celtic losing in Malmo. He’s still very much a Tim at heart.

    Hail Hail

  17. Would be funny if the Van Dijk deal fell through and we signed Simunovic. More than anything I hope we get shot of Boerigter.

  18. Johansen’s antics leading up to the 2nd Malmo goal in the first leg was the final straw for me. He cost us that goal and ultimately, IMO, the tie.

Any bid north of £5m should be gratefully accepted.

  19. Tinytim

Srefan Johansen is a fraud in my opinion. An athlete but not a footballer. Very poor player. Would love to see him leave.

    Hail Hail

  20. What’s with all the anti Joe Hansen stuff, ffs? Player of the year, sometimes people on here are just not happy.

Strikers, we should sign Leroy Sane from Schalke

I would take 3 maybe even £2 million for SJ.

  22. Best spend ?

    Not really .

We will have taken in more in sales income than we will have spent on purchases.

I think you’ll find that we haven’t really spent anything.

We will have made a surplus on sales and acquisitions.

That surplus will be required to help reduce the large loss that we are about to make for not qualifying for the CL again.
