BOYATA THANKS RODGERS FOR BELGIAN COMEBACK

DEDRYCK BOYATA has thanked Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers for rescuing his international career with Belgium.

The Hoops central defender has been recalled by his country after injury scuppered his hopes of being involved in the Euro 2016 Finals in France.

Belgian gaffer Roberto Martinez made a visit to Glasgow earlier this month to watch him during the derby clash with Sevco Rangers after the former Manchester City prospect made only one appearance in the first half of the campaign.
Rodgers showed faith in the 26-year-old Comeback Bhoy who came into the middle of the rearguard for the opening Scottish Cup-tie against Albion Rovers at the turn of the year.

He performed so well in the 3-0 win that the Hoops gaffer has kept him in place ever since.

Boyata admitted: “The start of the season was difficult for me, but I worked very hard to return and get back into the team.

“To be included in the Belgium squad feels like a small victory for me.

“Since January, I have played all the games and I feel great.

“The national team have had some injuries and I know that’s why I am back.

“I think Roberto Martinez plays a similar defensive system as Celtic .

“Sometimes we play three at the back at Celtic and I know Martinez likes to play like that, as well.

“I am delighted to be back with Belgium and, hopefully, I can add to my caps total.”
