“I don’t understand why you brought Seville into your point, that was a European final!”
I may not have explained that well. It was in a series of exchanges with The Green Man where I was defending the view that you can play well and lose and that not all defeats are as bad as each other.
I gave the Seville final as an example of one such game- there are a few others. In the 90s we did, on occasions, raise our game and battered Murray’s Rangers only to lose 1:0 to a late breakaway and some wonder performances from Two Andy Gorams. Disappointed as I am with those results, I cannot place them in the same box as the Legia match at Murrayfield, or the 5:1 friendly loss to Arsenal at Hampden, or Neuchatal Xamax away and a host of other low points where we did play poorly and get the result our play deserved.
Tonight, the result was poorer than the performance and, bottom line or no, I have explained why the poor performance/poor result run is a much worse sate than the poor result/ average to good performance situation is. You get no points from either but you get more optimism from one.

I enjoy watching this team most weeks in the SPFL, unfortunately the same can’t be said about watching them in Europe. I don’t know what the problem is with all those individual errors that cost us so dear this season.
One thing I do know though is that I wont let the Scottish sports media influence my thinking when it comes to Ronny, he was asked tonight why things went so wrong over the last 2 seasons in Europe. FFS we played Inter Milan and if Craig Gordon hadn’t made a howler who knows what we could have achieved last season.
How many times in this Europa group have we seemed comfortable in the lead and it has just blown up? Is that Ronny’s fault? Is it bad coaching? Is it a lack of experience from a group of relatively young players? Who knows but for me I’ll stick with Ronny because under his stewardship I look forward to going to Celtic Park as I know I’ll be entertained most weeks.
Under Lenny and Gordon I used to want to leave early and tried to find excuses why I couldn’t attend.
If you are happy to grind out results against inferior opposition then yes call for Ronny’s head.
Me? I’ll continue going along and giving him my support as I think he will get there as he is a visionary unlike our previous managers who were good coaches who could organise a team but tbh couldn’t make the team play exciting football that made you want to come back for more.
That probably sounds like criticism but it’s not, I’m just being honest, I like the styll of football we play now as opposed to what we played in the recent past.

Virtually every other football club,in response to consistent underachievement, sacks the manager.
I am amazed at the frequency that people involve themselves in interpreting the body language of others and concluding that it proves the opinion they held of them initially. It’s almost as if all of it is an attribution rather than an actual observation.
How does body language demonstrate a daunted outlook? Is the left leg bent at a tell-tale angle?
If you are going by signs of stress and aggravation well is it not more likely that these are natural human responses to being interviewed 10 minutes after a bad result by a hostile media looking to press you into giving them some words as a hostage to fortune.
Big Jock gave most of his press interviews off camera. Wonder how you would interpret his roasting of what he saw as an impertinent question when he would tell them to leave the room as “the grown ups are taking here, son”.
You cannot do that with the modern media anymore. Just like the phone-in programmes, they just take the mic off you and laugh at you when you are not on screen. Ronny got that treatment from both Tom English and Richard Gordon on Radio Shortbread tonight. I know which of the three talks more football sense and it isn’t the sheepie or the Rugby guy from Limerick.

What are Ajax (and Dutch teams generally) famous for? Bringing in youth, building a great team then breaking it up and starting again. I saw a tweet the other day of their team from I think ’96 – The de Boers, Litmanen, Overmars, Finidi George, Van der Sar, Danny Blind, Reizeger, et al. A great team. I think within a couple of years they were all spread across Europe.
Tonight they fielded their team of newish starts, several 19yr olds as they start the building process again, and we put out a bit of a makeshift team also with several teenagers. It was an even game and at 75 minutes I thought we looked most likely to score, and we made a mistake. That got punished. Football.
The question is do we, as a support actually have the patience to build. It doesn’t feel like it at all tonight. Maybe some of those players aren’t ultimately good enough but the application tonight was there. To boo that performance was utterly unnecessary. Why should Tierney or MacGregor burst their arse only to get that? Is that going to instill a love for the club that might see them reject any early offers of the bright lights.
Players can and do resist the bright lights but really why would they? A singly mistake merits derision and angry comment from some of our support.

Had been taking a wee break from CQN, as a normally glass half full on all things Celtic, the negativity on here since the AGM was getting to me
Unfortunately, I cannot offer anything positive about Celtic at the minute
The game tonight from what I witnessed
Our right back and been a huge fan of Lustig, how often did Ajax play the ball into the space he leaves, why can the team not react to this ?
I do not rate McGregor, but he was decent, scored for us, and gave them the equaliser, a bit more disciplined, but still not good enough in my eyes
Rogic, been watching him last few months, don’t think he is going to get any better, too slow at this level, including SPFL – understood his substitution, he was out on his feet at 65th minute ( and not for the first time)
GMS, was coming into a decent game in 2nd half, and pulling Akax defenders out of position, yet he subbed ,
Armstrong was moved around by management team obout 4 times through game, no wonder he is struggling
Grffiths tells us himself he was very poor, I seen this, yet our last sub was a left back, why not try changing Griffiths ?
I did not see any injury to young Tierney who was excellent
Now the Ajax winning goal, for 2 or 3 years I’ve been suggesting Celtic leave 2 players up the park on an opposition corner, so Ajax do this tonight, and we decide to leave 1 player back to defend this, with another who is too slow sitting just in front of these, hey presto quick break and goal
Charlie Mulgrew did pull up trying to get back, and he did inform the bench he needed to come off, and he did re-arrange midfield position of Allan before walking off, he pointed to a knee issue to the bench
On our final sub, Ajax also made a sub, bringing on a forward for a holding midfielder
Sorry Ronny not good enough, we need to change now, put him in charge of developing 18yr olds or something
how many coefficient points has he gained for Celtic over past 2 seasons ? We will struggle to get a pot 4 place next season as our Champions league last 16 puts drop off.
My opinion the team is going backwards
A final point, at the AGM, PL praised our scouting, am I the only one who thinks this is a major failing area ?
A seriously concerned Celtic fan, in what I am witnessing with MY club

Went to paradise with no expectations of victory mainly due to previous evidence and the basic logic that young players who we have barely seen in the first eleven are not then going to make an impact in Europe.
The result confirmed my pre match concerns.
The glass though is not quite empty.
There were positives on show , despite another home defeat.
If Celtic are to progress with home grown talent there will be pain.
Ronny even set the team up with a more pragmatic formation. Is he slowly learning ?
The back 4 were more solid.
Tierney again was impressive.
McGregor, is a different player when not stuck on the wing. Allen looks a player who picks and delivers a good pass. Forrest is getting more confident.
The most glaring deficiency is lack of experience , an over dependence on Lee Griffiths with no back up and finally we are a team of lightweights.
Whoever is manager I would suggest that until the suits above pay more attention to the FC rather than the PLC we will struggle.
