We are still in the early stages of Brendan’s management, him and his team will continue to assess a huge squad, he will talk up the team and the players, the support has been good at Celtic park, Astana is a difficult place to go so soon in pre season, Brendans has got to find a defensive formation/tactics which keeps tie alive at Celtic park

Neil Doncaster says clubs deserve credit for merging the SPL and the SPFL.

Four years on from predictions that Armageddon would be visited on Scottish football with the liquidation of Rangers and the requirement for the Ibrox club created thereafter to start in the fourth tier of Scottish football, SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster has conceded that the sport coped “remarkably well” with no Rangers presence in the top flight.
Ibrox will again be hosting top-tier football again following the Championship success for Mark Warburton’s side last season. Rangers will join a set-up wherein debt burdens across most of the clubs have been greatly reduced since there was an Ibrox club among the game’s elite.
Doncaster is keen to point out that he never used the word “Armageddon” – SFA chief executive Stewart Regan was the administrator who did so – but maintains there were economic convulsions caused by Rangers’ demise that should not be forgotten.
“There’s no doubt a lot of financial damage has been caused to a number of clubs as a result of what happened in 2012 and the events that followed, but I do believe the game has healed remarkably well, and that’s down to the robustness of the game, the supports and the clubs. They all deserve credit for the way they’ve pulled together,” he said.
“And the clubs deserve massive credit for the leap of faith they took in 2013 to bring the league back together again [with the Scottish Professional Football League formed from a merger of the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League].
“There were those suggesting at the time that particularly for the lower league clubs, there would be less money, less influence, less involvement, and they’d be cut adrift. I would hope people across the game would see the reverse has been true. And the fact we’ve increased the monies payable to all clubs by more than 20 per cent over the past three years vindicates the confidence all 42 clubs had at that time.”
Doncaster refused to consider that the Armageddon warnings were irresponsible and unhelpfully talked down the entire Scottish football brand, which Rangers bolstered coming through the divisions.
“We shouldn’t underestimate the pain some clubs in particular have gone through with the loss of Rangers’ support in particular,” he said. “Equally I think it’s right to recognise the huge financial good the Rangers support have brought to the lower league clubs on their journey through the divisions. That has transformed the finances of certain clubs in the Championship, League One and Two. So certainly it’s not without an upside, but the game in this country has proven itself to be remarkably robust in the face of those challenges and I think we can look forward with massive confidence.”

Toure is a short term signing Brendan is hoping it buys him time to get all his Centre Backs at the club fit in order that he can asses them.I like the type of football we are playing and im hoping Brendan is toughening up the squad mentaly.We are entering a big week for the hoops a week which could define our season Good Luck to Brendan and the Bhoys. There’s a thesis waiting to be written on bias in the Scottish media. Maybe someone studying media, journalism, perhaps sociology.
Analyse the language used in headlines and articles in various outlets about Scottish football clubs, their players, fans, staff, ex employees, facilities, stadia etc etc compare and contrast and see what you come up with.
Probably best done in a uni outside of Scotland though!
Today’s reporting would be a good place to start.

Kolo Touré is 1 of only 6 players who have won a Premier League with 2 different clubs, having won it with Manchester City and Arsenal.
Kevin Nolan? Where did that one come from? He is player manager at Orient or somewhere like that. Anyway, not my idea of a footballers but would score a few goals up here from midfield.
Like everyone else on here I see great clouds above but I hope for blue skies in the next two months for our club..
Right now it’s time for gym. Have managed two 20 minute runs this week one on road and one in gym, aiming for twenty five minutes today. As ever I am wary but optimistic of any hamstring twinges.

Toure joining Celtic simply means we could not get our first or possibly our second choice
BR knows he needs a centre Half so he (and PL) try and get someone in the last year of their contract (because the value of the player in his last year is less than if he has a three year contract)

I do not know this its just an assumption – but it looks like we have not made a concrete offer for him (according to Coyle)
So PL agrees with Duffy’s agent to sign him in January for nothing (pre contract) rewarding the player and agent with a better contract – so Duffy sits tight at Blackburn – until we can get him in Jan
Come January there is another debate – do Blackburn take example £500k for him or keep him for the remainder of the season – this no doubt depends on Blackburn’s position in the championship at the time – if they are chasing a play off place then maybe they will keep him
My point is buying a footballer that you want that can make an immediate impact is not easy
BUT we need someone now for CL qualifiers – enter Toure
Now apart from his age 35 I think he can be very good for us
If we have bought (for nothing) the Toure that played for Liverpool last year then we have a player
But every player has a peak – after that peak there is only one way – and that down !!!
Now I have no idea if my thinking is accurate but I do believe that this is the process a club like celtic have to go through to get the right player

Celtic did not lose to Leicester,they drew,1-1.Thats the reason we got a point,as did Lecester.The penalties are only a gimmick set up by the organizers to give a bonus point so no team runs away with the section.We did lose 6-5 on penalties,but this had nothing to do with the 90 minutes played.

Not just the papers. Yesterday on Shortbread Tam Cowan was asking a Celtic-minded studio guest if he agreed, not “thought” or “believed”, but “agreed” that the “humiliation in Gibraltar was the worst result in Celtic’s history”.
This despite the fact it was last week’s news and Celtic had since done the business and won the tie.
Pathetic weasel of a man. The Jimmy Tarbuck of Scottish comedy. (JT still telling gags about British Leyland and Arthur Scargill).
BTW. He was later rubbishing Celtic’s new standing area as a “waste of money”. Cosgrove, to his credit, dtrongly disagreed and described it as a “very positive initiative”.
Cowan persisted and questioned the wisdom of spending so much money on something that would only be used a couple of times.
Cosgrove was perplexed. “What are you talking about Tam? It’s open for the whole season.”
“But not for European and domestic games.”
“It will be open for all Scottish league and cup games. ”
“Aw will it?” groaned Cowan. “I thought it was only allowed for friendlies.”
That’s the level of that guy and his knowledge of the subject matter that gives him a living.

I agree with your analysis of the current situation regarding Centre Back position but I believe there is serious mismanagement ( at CEO level) as we have toiled with this challenge for quite a few seasons without proper resolution. To be honest VVD and Denier were a blip…but even if we look at their last season we had plenty of time to bring in replacements.
Which brings me to the whole loan deal issue in key positions. Denier was a brilliant player ( I only a more natural footballer than VVD) but all he really did was delay an inevitable process. I can see similar issues arising with the brilliant Patrick Roberts. Celtic could very easily become dependent upon young PR and yet we know he departs at the end of the season leaving a gap and using a year in which we could possibly have developed a permanent player. Interesting both players are from Man City . Young Mr Lawwell must be delighted.
Don’t get me wrong both these players are great. I also understand the advantages of lone players generally but I do question their use as a substitute to sustainable solutions. Reliance on these players ensures we are in the same position year after year.

I watched the semi final last season with a few bhoys nearly twice my age trust me we also dislike the new club as much as the old yin :-)
Anybody else might try and kid themselves on, me am delighted to experience the pain they have went through and NO way have they suffered enough, it’s still in its infancy for me

The only difference between a loan player and one we own is we get money for the one we own.
Patrick Roberts is a fine example, had he been our player that came through the ranks, he would be sold asap for a tidy sum, whatever, we get him for the loan time, all we lose out on is the lump sum, which was never ours in the first place :-)
Meant to say you can check and see if your relatives fought in that conflict as quite a few aare identified, maybe you can add something.
