Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Jozo Simunovic.
The 21-year-old has been identified to replace Virgil van Dijk but Dinamo Zagreb refused to consider a deal ahead of the Champions League play-off’s.
Despite seeing off Albanian side Skenderbeu on a 6-2 aggregate Dinamo have been back in talks with Celtic over a deal for Simunovic.
One Croatian source has claimed that an €8m deal has been agreed but the upfront figure is likely to be closer to €6m which would be the highest transfer fee paid by Celtic since Scott Brown arrived from Hibs in 2007.
Negotiations are believed to be at advanced stage with Celtic confident of completing the deal tomorrow without any last minute transfer dramas.
Simunovic has been a regular in the Dinamo defence over the last two seasons and has picked up four Croatian under-21 caps having been capped at every age group from u-16 upwards.
With van Dijk about to head for England, Simunovic will form a new look central defensive partnership with Dedryck Boyata and is pencilled in to make his Celtic debut at Aberdeen a week on Saturday.
With Tyler Blackett joining Saidy Janko and Boyata Deila is close to having a completely reshaped defence from the one that he inherited from Neil Lennon.
Speaking yesterday about the loan deal for Blackett the Celtic boss said: “Tyler will bring quality. He’s a good player, a young player and has experience playing for Manchester United. He really wanted to come and play for Celtic and he’ll be a good signing.
“He can play centre-back and left-back so we’ll see what his best position will be in September.”

Have to agree with eamonn dunphy about Louis van Gaal. Back in September 2001, a few days before the world changed forever, the Republic of southern eire played the orange free state of nether regions in a vital world cup qualifier, we had to win. They only needed to draw and were overwhelming favourites. Roy Keane was immense that day and we one won nil. But van Gaal engaged in the greatest tactical disaster that day since napoleon snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at Waterloo. He ( van Gaal not napoleon) opted to bring on big centre forwards and pump high balls into our box for the last 20 minutes of the game. We had Richard dunne at centre half and he was world champion at heading balls clear.
Big Yogi saying 500,000 not enough… more clubs are interested blah blah… boy is a big Celtic fan but deal has to be right for ICT blah blah
He’s trying to kick off a bidding war – fair enough to him for that.
Got a feeling we will get him for about 750,000.
But we don’t need another middy. We need a Nessy Neymar.

AuldHeid,
Good luck. It seems you are having to manipulate Lawwell into helping you expose the corruption ; as opposed to working together against the systemic cheating that took place.
Your patience is a virtue and I hope you have the success your endeavours deserve.
It’s a pity Lawwell does not have the level of integrity that you have and putting his own personal interests first and foremost.
Something I think not a lot of people have talked about is how Ronny Deila basically went with Neil Lennon’s team and players after he arrived.
Normally a new manager brings in his own players in his first full season.
As they were mostly loans in his first transfer window and he only brought in the two players from Dundee United in January we are now seeing a reshaping of the team.
Baily, Janko, Boyata, Blackett, Armstrong, GMS, Ciftci, Allan and we’ll probably see Simunovic and possibly one or two more – most likely a striker, possibly Christie being signed and loaned back with one or two more heading out the door.
Normally a manager comes in and makes big changes.
Usually new managers get judged when it’s THEIR team.
Strange that nobody has mentioned or judged the manager in that manner.
It’s a little unusual for me but once these players come in it’s Ronny’s team.
Maybe then we can fully judge.
Just a thought.

Nail on head, I don’t back Ronny because he is Ronny, I back him because he is the Celtic manager, I wanted Neil to stay but for family reasons I am kind of glad he left, I wanted Martin O’Neill to stay but family always comes first…… Anyway for me Celtic is Celtic the matter who picks the team or picks the signings, nothing I can do about either, I love the GB but think day was ain’t scoring exercise but again this bhoys (&ghirls) are at the game and if they fee, that way fair enough
I heard Yogi’s interview yesterday and the journalist really has twisted it to get that headline. It appeared Yogi would be happy for him to go to his boyhood heroes but he’d like him back for a year with a couple of our youngsters loaned also. It was a throw away line about the money in England but as he said there has only been one concrete bid.

Ah – I didn’t hear the interview, just read it on various sites today.
I think that’s fair enough. I like the idea of loaning out the youngsters to get them competitive game time. It used to drive me mental that our under 19s would sweep the boards every year, then get disbanded and sold off.

The suspicion that they are has never been far away because it is part of the Celtic family memory that the Board look after themselves, but in dealing with Celtic they have been helpful in strengthening the Res12 case and there have been real reasons why they have not waded in. The adjournment was NOT abandonment. We told everyone that and we were right.
Because I know this and you don’t, I can understand you and others making something up to fill the vacuum.
Rest assured however that if you turn out to be right I’ll be bringing the firelighters for you to light the pitch forks.
There is a Celtic tendency to judge and so misjudge on little real evidence. I’ve had to combat it myself by testing evidence with others, some not Celtic men, to see if the story it tells stands up. It does.
What I will say to be fair to the Res12 critics is that the information vacuum was a pre requisite of obtaining that Celtic help and I can well understand how silence and delay fuels the suspicion, but personally, knowing the tremendous effort put in by the 3 guys (whom I cannot praise enough even when they were being themselves) and myself representing shareholders at considerable cost across a number of areas, I find it rather sad that the mistrust of the Board spills over into mistrust of us and our abilities.
Separation of issues from personalities is an absolute requirement of creating change, otherwise it just becomes an entrenched slanging match.
It’s time you and some others got out the trenches and if there is a divide as you say, look at your part in causing it and then healing it.
No wonder Jesus wept.

Apparently yer man Simunovic has played just over 50 1st team games. So obviously not the most experienced of defenders.
