CELTIC’S TWO £20 MILLION PLAYERS IN ONE WEEK

FORMER Celtic star Stan Petrov believes Stuart Armstrong could attract a transfer fee of more than £20million.

The midfielder has been a revelation this season under Brendan Rodgers, netting eight goals and becoming a regular starter in recent months.

Armstrong, 24, has 18 months left on his Hoops contract after joining along with Gary Mackay-Steven from Dundee United in a £2million double deal two years ago and assistant boss Chris Davies is optimistic the player will soon agree an extension.

He said: “That’s something that would be really positive for the club. Stu has done fantastically well over the last few months. He has really really developed in the way we would like.

“We were obviously aware of him when we came in and spoke about him. We have been really impressed with his development and personality.

“The manager has made it clear to the player that he values him and how well he has done. The player is enjoying it and everybody is happy, so that’s all positive on that front.”

Former Parkhead midfielder Petrov has been very impressed and believes Armstrong could command a similar fee being talked about striker Moussa Dembele.

The Bulgarian said: “You can hardly find a more dynamic midfielder who starts deep and scores goals and creates chances. Stuart has definitely matured a lot.

“When he came, he was trying to do everything, he was trying to do a lot of stuff that wasn’t his game.

“But now you can see he learns, he moves the ball quicker, he times his runs, he starts scoring goals and if he keeps on the same way, Celtic will have a very good midfielder who can be another £20-plus million player if he develops the way he has been developing so far.

“He has shown he can be something special. He has shown he is a midfielder who scores, creates, is dynamic and makes a difference in the team.”
