Coaching, Brendan’s open canvass

580

Apologies for recent radio silence.  Lots going on with some weighty matters which will soon be of interest to you, unfortunately didn’t have time to blog for a few days.

So much going on simultaneously but I can’t really focus on anything with the daunting evening ahead tomorrow. Season Two of the Brendan Rodgers era will be considerably influenced by the events in Trondheim. Rosenborg are a shadow of their former glory, but Celtic must patch a team together and win (or secure a score draw) in Norway to reach the Champions League group stage.

Most Celtic fans I speak to expect us to win the game, but we’re an optimistic lot (cough). Let’s hope that’s based on sound reason.

I was surprised to hear Shaun Maloney has been speaking to Brendan Rodgers about a youth coaching role at Celtic. Shaun was a rare graduate of the Celtic youth system under Martin O’Neill, breaking through as an 18-year-old in 2001. He will also know more about Lennoxtown than practically any player, as he gorged on gym time there during lengthy periods of injury, while others were resting.

Does he have what it takes to be a good youth coach? This is a difficult one to answer. Look east. Ian Cathro had an exemplary record as youth and assistant coach under some talented managers, assisting at Valencia and Newcastle. But Cathro’s success was down to the management structure he flourished under. On his own, at Hearts, he perished. Sacked four days before the league kicks off.

If Shaun joins the Celtic coaching setup he will begin a new tutelage under Brendan Rodgers. The manager may be looking for an intelligent, open, canvass, to work with.

Directors’ Box Hospitality for 4, this Saturday, 5 August

Many thanks and good luck!

  6. Didn’t Maloney run down his contract and we received zero transfer fee when he left ? There are a lot of potential future youth coaches. Still, Brendan is in charge and knows best.

Paul seems to have forgotten that tomorrow night is the 2nd leg of the 3rd qualifying round, with another round to play for entry to the Group stages…?

anyway, I’ve done some research on our’s & UEFA’s fixtures lists’. If the unthinkable happens and we drop into the Europa League then I think that will result in three 3pm Saturday games been moved to the Sunday? (to hell with that…)

  9. Auldheid, a strongly emotive post from you at 12.05 (on the previous blog), especially where you say

“When I have to put up with the malevolence from such as you I wish I hadnt got involved. It has soured my thinking and wakened me up to the fact Celtic is a family with some members I would happily avoid.”

So sad that a guy doing so much for the club and fans feels like this. I can only urge you to continue your fight, but maybe disagree a wee bit with part of the quote above. You should always keep in mind that not everyone on the blog is in fact a true Celt. It has been known for a troll or three to put in an appearance.

Even more unthinkable would be dropping into the Europa League Play Off round.

I think thats how it works, unless its changed.

Sort of reminds me of Airplane 2,when the hostess tells the passengers that they have gone a “Tad of course”

    She then says”Unfortunately,a Tad,in space terms,is 100,million miles”

I have no idea what the Celtic term for”In the near future”means.

Keep your chin and spirits up mate, I am desperate to have Celtic FC come out against ALL the corruption issues and cheating, but like the majority on here ( I HOPE ?)..I also understand that especially now….Timing from Celtic is everything ?

There’s an old workplace saying that I tried to abide by for many years…” Get it RIGHT first time” !

Hopefully, if or WHEN Celtic do act then the “Timing” will be spot on ?
