DEILA: GIVE KIDS A CHANCE

RONNY DEILA is ready to give youth a fling during Celtic’s winter break in Gran Canaria.

The Norwegian has a reputation for developing and promoting young players.

At Stromsgodset, he was responsible for introducing Martin Odegaard, the 16-year-old midfielder who has already played for the international side.

His is now on the wanted list of just about every top side in Europe, including the Hoops.
Several youngsters flew out with the squad yesterday and Deila plans to involve them in the Maspalomas Cup matches against PSV Eindhoven on Saturday and Sparta Prague on Tuesday.

The Hoops boss said: “We have five or six players from our Development Squad in Gran Canaria with us.
“They are going to get their chances over here and it is going to be exciting to see the games.
“The biggest challenge we have is that most of them are kids born in 1996 and 1997, so they are still very young.
“They are doing well in the Under-20s and also when they train with the first-team players, but it takes time to get to this level.
“We had three young players on in the game at Kilmarnock, Liam Henderson, Callum McGregor and Darnell Fisher, who is just back from injury.

“These players have already come through here and that is very pleasing for me as the manager.”
