Evidence mounts as Celtic look set to further improve

930

I’d a look at the fixture list preseason and didn’t expect we’d be top of the table so early, having played only three games with 10 teams having played four, and two of those games coming against our nearest challengers from last season.

But we stepped up to the task. The earlier win at Tynecastle and beating Aberdeen 4-1 on Saturday has issued a warning to all. Bookmakers are offering Celtic’s title odds of between 2/9 and 1/7, and have created a separate ‘Betting without Celtic’ competition. One of Brendan’s jobs will be to remind players that they need to earn the points every time the whistle goes. Defeats come quickly to teams operating at 95%.

Not that we had it all our own way on Saturday. Aberdeen disrupted our rhythm and passing in the middle part of the game. You can see how Brendan has changed the way we use the ball in possession, but there’s still a bit of work to do for it to become more natural looking.

The goals were outstanding. Leigh Griffiths’ effort would be immortalised in song, if one of the Barcelona players due to visit Celtic Park soon had managed it. Tom Rogic’s technique is of particular importance.

Celtic face a lot of packed defences; having someone able to reliably hit an unstoppable shot from around 22 yards changes how a defence will shape up to play us. This is a player Leeds United thought they could buy for £1m recently.

I was pleased to see Dorus de Vries make his debut. He had little to do, and could do nothing about the Aberdeen goal, but if he’s to be relied upon in any of the important games ahead he needed an outing as a Celtic player.

It was equally important Erik Sviatchenko came through 90 minutes with Kolo Toure. The defence is set for some almighty challenges ahead, and will need to face them with little common game-time to allow partnerships to be cemented.

There’s a degree of trepidation for the Champions League task ahead, but pretenders to our domestic dominance beware: evidence mounts that this is a good Celtic team – one which will continue to improve for some time to come.

Thunder Road…BTW…I hope Almore gets his wished for cafe…it is really disappointing that the glittering Green Temple should have really poor, third world facilities…I can’t help but think we are still treated like cattle at times…we pay a lot of money to go there and should at the very least have decent toilets and more food/drink outlets…personally, I live not too far away, so have no great need for anything but many others are far traveled and improved facilities would help enhance the match experience for them…

    Regards…

Doc, sorry to hear about your daughter, that’s a shame…I hope she makes a full, quick recovery…

I said I know kill ultra was not the guy named earlier on level 5 , I never at any point said I know him really well ,

As I said earlier I saw an injustice and felt compelled to respond. I know Gordon64 really well along with his mum and late father a nicer family you could not meet. Again I repeat I know nothing of res.12 so kill ultras views on that are his not mine HH

  3. If I was afforded the luxury of an 11th best moment I think i’d have to go for getting to see ‘Rod Stewart’ and ‘Cher’ as half-time entertainment whilst we were playing at Hampden.Utter, utter pish, one of those so bad that it was hilarious experiences. ;))

    Hampden’s shite.

Looks like Paul and others who administer this blog have succumbed to the paranoia of some of the ‘better connected’ who post on here.

If there are some people of the ‘opposite’ persausion coming on to the blog, surely to God they can be handled with reasoned argument. To use them as a convenient reason to drive any dissent off the blog is censorship of the most obnoxious kind.

In life we all come up against those with differing opinions, it’s what makes life interesting and varied – pitting our wits against those who don”t always agree with us is a worthy pastime.

The mantra about “sowing discord” parrotted by some is utter rubbish – what they mean is that somebody is not ‘toeing their party line’

My views are always in favour of Celtic FC and the continued well-being of the club – I question the motives of particular sub-groups who would damage the club in the pursuit of their own narrow agenda – these sub-groups have demonstrated this trait on a number of occasions.

So after reading a published article attached to this site, I no longer wish to be associated with the blog. It seems obvious that a ‘crib-sheet’ agenda is required, with all subscribing, and those with critical and/or opposing views labelled as ‘trolls’ – how pathetic.

No anwers are reqired, as I will not be opening CQN again – however no doubt the “usual suspects’ will be registering their triumph in forcing a “troll” off the blog.

  7. PAPAJOE55 @ 12:05 AM,

Well that’s fine, but the point is I believe many on here thought you were vouching for Kill Ultra, it was the impression I got.

The whole point is the Level 5 campaign to undermine Res12 is covert, if they could genuinely discredit Res12 they could easily do this by giving the relevant Facts to the SMSM.

They can’t, these Facts don’t exist, so they must act on hearsay and inuenndo and plant disinformation.

So if someone comes on to CQN with accusations and assertions and then harangues the resolutioners then their purpose will be questioned.

If they aren’t transparent with their intentions then why shouldn’t they be viewed with suspision?

No one has said there was only one person involved in this L5 campaign, quite the opposite in fact, so whether KU is SK or not is not the point.

You haven’t told us how you knew who KU was. You haven’t said why you know his motives are genuine and Celtic minded. In fact, you now suggest you don’t know him well.

Therefore how do we know KU’s agenda is not aligned with Level 5.

    Hail Hail

I said I know kill ultra and I know he is not the level 5 guy he was accused of being . I tried to rectify a wrong ,again I know nothing other than what people put on here about res 12. Kill ultras views are his own not mine and if you knew him you would know him to be a good Celtic man. I cannot prove that on a blog it is impossible.. If I said you were level 5 how could you definitively prove on a blog you weren’t . Only by having respected friends vouch for you.

It’s risible to equate a guy flouncing off a football blog with ethnic cleansing.

  27. It’s hard to filter down to 10 best Celtic memories. And there has to be a few more somewhere that I can’t remember until prompted.

I won’t include Lisbon as it’s pretty obvious. I was in a good place in my life at the time, engaged to the first love of my life, a decent job and the world at my feet.

Where did it all go wrong?

    So here goes.

    1. March 1954 my 1st game against East Fife won 4-1 and my hero John Higgins scored twice. The whole experience in the supporters bus and my first sight of Paradise on a dark rainy day is one memory that will always stay with me.

    2. April 1954 listening to the Celtic Aberdeen Scottish Cup final on the Scottish Home Service with my granny, something we’d do often on a Saturday afternoon.

    3. January 1966. Beating Rangers 5-1 at Celtic Park on a park more suited to ice hockey.Big Yogi in his trainers running absolute mayhem on the wing, the incomparable Bobby Murdochwith a beauty after Tiny Wharton dummies a ball inside and. Stevie Xhalmers scoring a hat trick.

    4. March 1967 Big Billy’s last minute header from Charlie Gallagher’s inch perfect corner against Vojvodina. Our captain rose like an eagle out of the mists and made us believe the EC was a possibility.
