EX-ENGLAND ACE BACKS SCOTTY SINCLAIR

FORMER England star Joe Cole has backed Celtic attacker Scotty Sinclair for a World Cup call-up.

The ex-West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool forward was a Stamford Bridge team-mate of the Hoops fans’ favourite 12 years ago.

And Cole admitted he has been hugely impressed by the impact the 28-year-old has had at the treble-winners since his £4.5million move from Aston Villa last summer.

Cole, who made 56 appearances for his country and now plays for Tampa Bay Rowdies, said: “Scott was the best player in Scotland last season.

“There is no reason why he shouldn’t believe he can play for his country.

“When I first watched Scott at Chelsea, I thought he would play for England one day.

“And I stick by that.

“If I was Scott, I certainly wouldn’t be ruling it out.”

Sinclair claimed a 25-goal haul as the six-in-a-row champions rampaged through the domestic competitions, remaining unbeaten in 47 games during a historic campaign that earned them the title The Invincibles.

England are on course to feature in the World Cup Finals in Russia next year and if Sinclair has a repeat of the last outing it should only be a matter of time before international gaffer Gareth Southgate takes note.
