Fan pressure gets through to SPL chairmen

714

My initial reaction, that the outcome from today’s SPL meeting and votes on Financial Fair Play, was on the upside of expectations, appears to be well founded.  All matters not relating to a Newco football team were passed.  Clubs had the opportunity to vote through a process to allow a Newco access the league but it was apparent that there was clearly insufficient support for this proposal, making subsequent proposals to apply sanctions to a Newco moot.

I understand sentiment towards Rangers reflected the comments from St Mirren chairman, Stewart Gilmour, who said, “What’s a court getting involved in football for? The decision had been made.”

There is no question that fan pressure has been brought to bear on club chairmen.

This interpretation compares starkly with BBC Reporting Scotland tonight who, if I paraphrase, said, ‘If Rangers don’t get a CVA, depending on your point of view, they will either get “back” into the SPL with light or with punitive punishment’.  The broadcaster also threw in the suggestion that ‘Rangers’ might get ‘back’ in without punishment.

I’m a huge admirer of Reporting Scotland but this was perhaps the worst 60 seconds in 85 years of BBC reporting.  There was a decision made to ignore the real story, that no facility to get a Newco (not Rangers) into the SPL was approved, to ignore the outcome of several months of fan pressure, and to tailor a story that suits a controversial narrative.

Fortunately, it looks like the BBC will be back on form soon, but they really need to look at what happened today.

As for the CVA, it becomes less and less likely by the hour.

UPDATE

Having spoken to BBC Reporting Scotland’s Alastair Lamont it’s clear he has been briefed differently from me, which explains the contrast between our interpretations. This story is becoming a nightmare to report, and probably to read. Fair play to Alastair for being up for the debate. I feel much better about my favourite news programme.

Tried to reply ages ago but couldn’t get onto the site for some bizarre reason. I think the following may answer your question:

What kind of substances induce this kind of hallucination?

    The absolute most bizarre:

    AMBIEN 2000

A typical hun spiked with Ambien 2000 in the water supply of their Luj will experience VERY intense, VERY crazy and wild hallucinations and dream-like surroundings- even on a small dose of this crazy jungle juice. One of these yahoos had been spiked and was on his computer when he started seeing the words kind of flitter around: “THE UNSEEN GREEN HAND IS TICKLING YOU!”. Then he looked at his stuffed orange monkey and it was GRINNING and rubbing its hands together (which most huns always seem to think is a forshadowing of the craziness that is about to ensue,”hold on to your hat, muthaf***er!”). Anyway, this monkey became his best trip friend and was named Nacho, and would later vaguely recall (he remembers about 20% of the experience) walking around his sectarian ghetto with the monkey strapped around his neck, as they talked to each other about Bill Werbeniuk’s giant y-fronts as a tent for midgets.

He would talk to two headed plant people, plants with pistols, the tree god Agent Green… he would see lions chained up… and eventually… in all honesty.. became a ‘superhero’ like figure in his own world. He eventually could control his hallucinations, and so the hun thinks to himself ‘I want to see the titanic!’ and magically an ornate golden gate appeared, and people would come into focus behind the gate, with the titanic in the background.. The mad hun was watching everyone board the titanic!

His fellow hun friends, a few of them, tell him how he called them and say how they were in the room with him, how they were about to go on a blue red and white rollercoaster. But he does not remember any of these events. Nor does he remember why he would wake up with his bed shifted out from his wall, waking up between the two on the floor wearing a union jack merkin.

He would slide into open eyed dream-trances… and would suddenly find himself, for example, on a galleon ship with Britney Spiers as a Pirate… he was some sort of slave, and he was throwing spears over this wooden wall…this is what happens when you spike an Orange luj with Ambien 2000.

    PS

If the prescription centre is closed and they are having problems withdrawing from their methadone then such behaviour can be even more bizarre:

There is a story of one particular Broxburn ned hun who had woken from a buckfast/tramadol stupor he went to the prescription centre to find it locked. His head literally felt the size of a small child’s marble. After a time his hallucinations were so fierce he thought there were soldiers downstairs who were working for Opus Dei; so he locked himself in his room, didn’t show up to sign on for his giro, and somehow ended up with a big “X” on his chest made from metallic tape- he had also wrapped duct tape around his head that he called his “magic helmet”- later he was found shouting to cops in the street that: “Its to keep the Kafflick aliens oot ma nut!”.

The way I read it was the spl reserved the right to admit a newco anytime in the future ,wouldn’t that not just mean when the CVA is rejected the clubs will then look at it and decide .

It looks to me like another delay only this time making sure they can include penalties .

Can you assure me that ragers will not be in the spl next season

    thanks in advance

  10. Go on, admit it, it was worth waiting on!

A big cyber crate to fergus slayed the blues who had the nearest guess. Dick Byrne will now serve a 12 month suspension for alleged cheating.

You’ll no doubt notice that the total available seats is only 56,733. This is because I couldn’t get stats for any of the (ahem) posh areas. So the actual tickets sold is likely to be around 42,000+

Personally, I’m pretty impressed that we’re already abovet the 40,000 mark.

I’m away for a lie down now.

A brilliant point, well made mate. The struggle to push this thing beyond where Doncaster was hoping it would be has ended in success. We’ve had a good day today. The quest now, as you say, is to get as much information into the public domain as allows the SPL clubs to make a full and informed decision.

Hopefully the BBC are going to explode a nuke tonight. Failing that, the task will fall to the guys who have been right … from the start.

Our pressure is paying off in spades. We need to keep going.

Your version are at odds with the SPL

There was a decision made to ignore the real story, that no facility to get a Newco (not Rangers) into the SPL was approved, to ignore the outcome of several months of fan pressure, and to tailor a story that suits a controversial narrative.

The official statement on the SPL website says

    http://www.scotprem.com/content/default.asp?page=s2&newsid=11407

Following the circulation to creditors of CVA proposals, the SPL Board withdrew the resolution to consider a transfer of Rangers FC SPL share to a newco. No newco proposal is currently under consideration by the SPL.

I still cant believe that the their statement was put out in this fashion.

  14. Will the voting position of individuals club be made public?

Thats not my interpretation of todays events. Charles Green was given no guarantees but possibly assurances if he can get a Newco founded and up and running in time. I doubt he will manage it but the scope to let them in unpunished as a Newco will be judged on its individual merits. Income being the main motivating factor for this clearly stated compromise.

I still await the fixture list for next season before we can declare the Old Firm dead.
