FIVE JANUARY GOODBYES

FORMER Hoops striker John Hartson insists Brendan Rodgers should be ruthless during a Celtic clear-out in next month’s transfer window.

The ex-Welsh international frontman, writing in his newspaper column, reckons the Parkhead gaffer should get rid of at least five players to make way for incoming transfers.
Hartson believes Kris Commons, Nadir Ciftci, Efe Ambrose, Scott Allan and Dedryck Boyata should all be moved on.

He said: “Quality over quantity. That has been Brendan Rodgers’ constant position on what he wants in his Celtic squad since he arrived.
“With the January sales set to open in a few weeks, we are about to see that properly swing into action.
“Rodgers could cut at least FIVE players from his squad today and nobody would notice.
“Kris Commons, Nadir Ciftci, Efe Ambrose, Scott Allan and Dedryck Boyata can all go now.
“That might seem harsh, but it’s true. They are all expendable.
“Ciftci has been a complete waste of money. Celtic paid £1.5million to Dundee United and got pretty much no return.
“Ambrose has given his heart and soul to the club over the last four years, but he hasn’t featured since July. He has surely played his last game for the club.YmMhQldOLaDdShKzdYaSynXN4lbOgqaLErXg0tNK-Qs
“Boyata? He played against Kilmarnock a couple of weeks ago, but isn’t up to Celtic level. Put it this way, Celtic let Charlie Mulgrew leave and he is twice the player the Belgian is.
“Scott Allan’s days are also numbered. He’s got talent, but it hasn’t worked out and he wasn’t even a regular at Rotherham when out on loan.
“But Commons is the name that jumps out from that list.
“He has been a magnificent servant for Celtic. At £300k, he is one of the biggest bargains in the club’s history.
“Kris has won eight trophies, scored almost 100 goals, picked up Player of the Year awards and given the fans a lot of great memories. Kris is a great lad, popular around the place and can hold his head high for what he has achieved and contributed.
“But nothing lasts forever and he will know as well as anyone that his time’s up at Celtic Park.”
