Green, Whyte and Gaol-d

496

After many years of speculation and debate, former Rangers owner, Craig Whyte, and founding father of newco Rangers, Charles Green, have been detained by police and are due to appear in court connected to the “alleged fraudulent acquisition” of Rangers assets, which were sold after the club failed to prevent a liquidator being appointed.

Joint administrators for Rangers, Paul Clark and David Whitehouse, then employed by Duff and Phelps, have also been detained in connection with the case.

Let’s get the rules clear from the off:

Anyone charged with a crime is entitled to a fair trial. They should not be subject to public comment which is likely to prejudice their ability to receive a fair trial. Don’t let anything of this nature appear on CQN.

You can discuss the issue, and you can discuss consequences of similar-sounding hypothetical cases, but unless you are cited to as a juror, don’t try to convict anyone.

The events surrounding Rangers liquidation and the subsequent asset purchase took place over three years ago. That this case has now found such momentum suggests the police are following a strong lien of enquiry, and have overcome whatever inertia which can sometimes affect white-collar crime.

We don’t know what is alleged fraudulently took place. The role of the administrators to carry out their duties on behalf of creditors is clearly established. That said, plenty of lateral is afforded to administrators (although increasing payroll by trying to sign Daniel Cousin raised eyebrows).

Exactly how Sevco Scotland Ltd (now The Rangers Football Club Ltd) were able to buy Rangers assets (for £5.5m) when the company who successfully bid for the assets was Sevco 5088 Ltd, has remained an open question since Craig Whyte claimed a controlling interest in Sevco 5088 Ltd.

Whatever the nature of the police charges, there is one overarching fact which Scottish football should be alert to.

Any company, football club or otherwise, which relies on assets that were criminally acquired to go about its business cannot continue to operate with those assets.

In this instance, the stadium, training ground, intellectual property, balls, nets and goalposts were all acquired by the company now known as The Rangers Football Club Ltd.

The consequences of this one are so massive several well-informed people suspected it would never get this far. But the day has come.

Even if all charges are dropped or allegations found to be false, there will still be immediate and real consequences. How would you, for example, go about raising money for a company with this hanging over it?  Newco needs money, and they need to convince investors that the club did not start by criminally acquiring its football stadium.

Good luck with that.

I see in some places a fallacy persists that the SFA found Craig Whyte fit and proper to be a director of a football club. They did no such thing. The responsibility for ensuring Whyte’s fitness in 2011 lay with the Rangers board of directors, including Dave King and Paul Murray. The SFA have no powers to intercede or prevent a club from appointing any director it chooses.

Earlier this year Dave King took the unusual step of asking for prior-clearance that his appointment would not be found contrary to SFA rules (presumably due to his criminal convictions), before being appointed a director, but this was at King’s discretion.  There is no SFA Fit and Proper test, the SFA do not clear or otherwise sanction any club director prior to appointment, this is the job of the club itself.  Dave King, Paul Murray but most of all, Sir David Murray, take a bow.

Auldheid on September 2015 all posts

    —————————————————————–

Thank you for ‘talking’ sense when surrounded by a sizeable bunch of ‘airheads’ and their ‘stop the world, we want to get off’ tripe.

Can you imagine the outcry if we had been involved in a mix-up similar to Man Utd/Real Madrid – if the two biggest clubs on the planet cannot ‘dot every i’ and ‘cross every t’, why then should we, with a minuscule income and a ‘mickey mouse’ league set-up, snap our fingers, bring in who we like and, be able to bend the football world to our will?

That we are able to persuade players from Man City and Man Utd to come to CP and entice a prospect like Simonovic says much for us – put simply, Scotland is a ‘no no’ for 95% of ‘quoted’ players and agents – now if they are coming from English League I and 2, they might be persuaded and, as a number of clubs in the Scottish Premiership have shown, the Vanarama Vanaroo is a happy hunting ground for their ‘top’ talent.

Look across the city and appreciate the mess we have NOT made – those decrying our chief executive and board now, are the same people who would have had us follow the spending madness, borrowing and mismanagement of the former Rangers – of course in those days there was no social media, so we can’t call them out – ask them now and of course they would deny it.

I did cite that Balde was doing ‘well’ if he’s at Metz on the basis that that’s a good level of professional football so respect is due.

So I don’t think you should feel as though I’m putting words in your mouth.

As for the recruitment strategy for strikers to fill our present gaps:

    Tall

    Pacy

    Physical

    Under 21 cap

    18-25 y/o

So much like our new centre back, except with a 9 on his back.

When – if! – we ever buy him give him some ge time! Balde’s 4 mins here and there didn’t allow him any chance for a run of games. Though his attempts to head/pass the ball back to Danny McGrain in half time drills were alarming.

Similarly scepovic has gone without me personally thinking he had sufficient prolonged game time to embed him in the team.

That disconnect between recruitment and integration into the team is surely something you acknowledge.

  3. Hello again all you young rebels.

Not posted for a couple of weeks , i knew the vitriol after the

Malmo game would be horrendous so joined the lurkers

clique and found i was scrolling by more of the constant

snipers than reading the good posters, everybody is entitled

to their opinion but when every post they make is negative

then you know they are working to an agenda.

    Tontine Tim

Much as i enjoyed your post at 5.19 i hope you will reconsider

your generalisation that the tims from the Southern hemisphere

are all negative and whingers, i understand why you think that

as i’ve stated above but if you ever visit here you will be welcome

in my house and i will show you the exact opposite when i take

you to our new club on the Mornington peninsula where all our

bhoys work very hard to raise the profile of our club using their

own time and money with fundraisers for some terminally ill

bhoys and ghirls and there is never a moan when they have to

go that extra mile to support other clubs in Oz who need support

to keep interest in Celtic going despite difficult times for everyone.

Just like you i’ve stood in the jungle and listened to people giving

Jinky , Bobby M, and even big Billy stick before Jock came and made

them a team but i’m still positive about my club as are most of the

bhoys here and despite some of them having never even been to

Celtic park so hopefully you will have a rethink about us antipodeans.

    H.H Mick.

  4. Jamesgang – aye, but enough about you, what about the weather?

Enjoy your day bhoys and ghirls. Work calling…

  5. JamesGang

I think you make a very interesting point re integration of new potential talent into our team.

The expectations of support and the instant bias toward critique make it a tough challenge for many mid range signings. Many do go on, like Berget, to show they a not as bad as we have thought based on their limited Celtic exposure.

I guess at celtic the shop window and negative bias combined with weekly NEED to win each game doesn’t help. Nonetheless cases like Scepovic getting such little game time does make it very hard.

Hopefully the longer term bets we are placing like Allen and Janko and even Christie might get time to adjust and eased in. Tough with everyone understandably frustrated post Malmo.

I have high hopes for the 3 youngsters you cite.

I think we can also be pretty intolerant and impatient in terms of cultural assimilation. You’d hope we’ve moved a long way from the days of young Petrov being ‘home alone’ but we do well to remember that these are ‘glorified kids’ arriving to life as high profile fish in a cold and wet goldfish bowl!

I also asked if our young Croatian speaks English. It’s an issue we perhaps neglect cos we’re spoilt by the linguistic skills of our scandi and Low Countries players.

Could be of significance of partnering a still hesitant Boyatta, Honduran izzie with Broonie barking orders in Broonie language!

  9. Good morning CQN

Our hero Craigy Bhoy has his lawyer firing early, warning shots that Craig indicating very clearly Whyte aint gonna be no patsy, it certainly looks like at the very least IF the trials go ahead its going to be interesting………..cant wait for wee craigys book and film lol…. 100,000 pieces of paper some people seriously under estimated our hero

Craig Whyte is ready to lift the lid on EVERY detail of the Ibrox farce.

The former billionaire is due to appear in court today with his lawyer warning that he has accumulated more evidence than the Lockerbie enquiry.

Today’s charges will reveal the precise extent of the police investigation but with the Charlotte Fakes twitter account revealing Mr Whyte’s habit of recording every conversation there will be no shortage of evidence to support the former billionairre’s case.

“In terms of the amount of material and the depth of that material, it could be bigger than Lockerbie. It obviously isn’t as important as Lockerbie, but it is huge in terms of the amount of information.

“I now have 100,000 sheets of paper sitting in the office containing all the information that has been disclosed by the Crown. There is an enormous amount of information that has been gathered in terms of witness statements and other data.

“My client is confident however that he has done nothing wrong and he wants Rangers fans to see that. So he is keen for things to progress as quickly as possible and answer the questions put to him.”

Was Guidetti not a similar mix up?

Your last comments are appropriate re looking across the city for many reasons. However, there must be a sense of balance in what we spend and how we spend. Doing just enough to be ahead domestically in light of the competition appears now to be level of our ambition.

  11. Was struck but not impressed by posters who were Criticising RD for being on holiday for a few days while at the same time saying he had no say in who signed anyway. One poster even joked that if took a call he’d mibbee be pished at the karaoke.

The players barely had a week or two off at the end of last season. Expect the management teach had even less.

RD turns 40 this month. He looks more than a year older than he did last year. His daughters live in Norway. I suspect he gets very little time to himself and still less with his family.

Prey do tell when he’d next get the chance to switch off for a few days?

In his YouTube lecture he tells of how the team doc once ordered him to take a week off cos he Eason the middle of a divorce and it was all pretty full on. He’s obviously a guy who understands the need to consider the whole person. So if he’s managed to recharge a wee bit and missed out on Jim White and ludicrous MSM questioning in the week running up to an international then good on him.

I’m sure there was jelly n ice cream in the minibar (but nae bl00dy striker Sftb!!!!!!)

  12. Griffiths scores goals when he gets chances. Guidetti did for a few weeks. I never saw much of scepovic or balde so I don’t know. Ciftci hasn’t had too many chances to miss yet. I don’t think it’s fair to judge him either while he is neither match fit or has played enough game time for his team mates to know how he plays (gms and Armstrong aside)

There’s a problem with our system in the final third sometimes. When we need to change the style because it’s not working in some games we generally don’t. We saw it in Malmo – to be fair though we’ve won most of our other games comfortably and in the case of Killing away we should have but failed to take chances that largely fell to our midfield players.

And here’s a thought – do we ask our strikers to work too hard in defending? Could they be sharper to the ball in attacking positions if they hadn’t spent the previous five minutes chasing down back passes and square balls between defenders in wide areas?

Maybe we should tolerate a bit more ‘laziness’ from.them in domestic games and home games in Europe?

  13. New team…………………time to gel

Last season Armstrong and Mackay stevens settled in very quickly and gave us a lift which helped secure the title, we required sparkle from the solid spine we had with Denayer, Van dijk, Bitton and Brown, quality usually shows instantly on the training ground, no language barrier if you can play, if you have a touch and you have game intelligence, good players will respond and enjoy playing with other good players…….one of football’s truisms

Ronnys first challenge is to recreate a strong spine to the team, organise team shape tactics and personnel to make us tough defensively, so far this season we concede far to easily, we will suffer in the Europa league if we cannot rectify our defensive frailties

    enjoy your day CQN

  14. Just interloping my way through…short of time.

So, a lot of war & peace types of exchanges from the long-serving-conceited-plants.

Pot-shots & peashooters wont bring about the change that is needed at CP.

My solution….a little anarchy is needed to, upset the established order at Celtic Park.

Bottom-line….fans are being treated as mugs…only the fans can bring about the change that will effectively end that state of affairs.

Your key time…when you are King…is when, the hierarchy need your money.

Apathy….so far…has taken your eyes off the ball.

The AGM at CP will be the usual ‘puppet-show’…with an assortment of nodding-churchill-dogs…being sucked-in by a handful of ‘cheap’ digs about the huns situation, from the very folk who….imho…will keep Sevco / Whatever their called….alive….and, the rub….they’ll use your money to do it…that is unforgivable-deceit on a scale that is far-far-far-far-far worse….than anything that the mibs or the hun-establishment have ever done to you. Ever!

The supporters chance to effect the change that, not just the malcontents / mineshafters / middle-of-the-road-fence-sitters…can see is needed but, some happy-clappers have had their eyes opened as well…too late?…Maybe.

Now….ANARCHY…is to, go against the expected grain of the Celtic hierarchy.

They can set their clocks…every close season and count all the well-meaning-innocent Celtic supporters cash…well…only you can save yourselves….call their bluff…let them know that it is you who puts the fuel in the tank and, without that fuel…Celtic FC is parked on the hard shoulder.

Inform the hierarchy that…they…have done this with one piss-take of a transfer window too much.

Inform them that….regrettably….we have lost confidence in your stewardship of the club that we devote our lives to.

Inform them that….our taken for granted injection of £millions into the club we love every season of our lives….has been shelved….for the time being.

Inform them that…your money will only be injected into the club but, will be in exchange for their shares which will mean that…CELTIC SUPPORTERS…will, from this point forward…be in control of and, own their own club.

Inform them that…you shoudn’t be foolish and take us on….bigger and, better folk have tried to kidd-us-on…so just go…thanks for what you’ve done for the club but,…as sure as mother nature, every doggy has it’s day, too-raloo-raloo-raloo-raloo….yours has come…and, gone.

Inform them….not…to take you on coz…they’ve not got the stuff to quell the spirit of the Jungle…no-one has!

Inform them… that….ach, apathy will ensure that, nobody will listen so…what’s the poit in me going on?….Going for a wee read back befor I have to go oot….

First…let me say that…I’m surprised at TOHG’s book being advertised on the back page of the hun this morning?….TOHG is not a person whom, I would have thought to take the LL’s soup?

BT….I’m only jesting so, kindly get yer tanks off my lawn:)))

Hail Hail BlantyreTim…The Gentleman-Rebel…guid luck to big Slippy wi the new book:)

Tri-Coloured-Ribbon…thoughts & prayers from mine to yours…Hail Hail

Philbhoy / Oliva and all the family thoughts, prayers and best wishes to all.

Mountblow Tim…hope things work out for yer lovely wife…Hail Hail

Nye Bevans Rebel Soldier…ole Jungle Rebel…LOVE as always.

    Shug the dug…,take care…keep that tail wagging…woof.

LOVE to all Celtic fans…especially the wans who’d love to drive a bus over me:)

Take care Celtic land…..off oot. YNWA.

  15. My dilemma for the day – do I want to see a protracted 5 year long legal case that ultimately kills them slowly or a short sharp kick in the delicates that results in the same outcome?

Having given it due consideration I’m good either way.

Canny find a striker? Out of the CL with only ajax and fenerbache to play in Europe until Christmas? Lost our best defender for £13 million? Problems eh?

Them luck Sevconian – top of the league, still in the Petrofeck and a glamour tie with st Johnstone to come. And at last white and green gettin justice….. That’s all good ain’t it?

  16. RobertT

And here’s a thought – do we ask our strikers to work too hard in defending? Could they be sharper to the ball in attacking positions if they hadn’t spent the previous five minutes chasing down back passes and square balls between defenders in wide areas?

    ——-

    Interesting question.

There are times when we move forward into the final third when our ghuys in front of the ball can be horribly static.

As for your other question. I’d be keen for deidco to live up to its name ASAP.

  17. Morning all.

Fairly bright down here so far.

Does that hold true for the general mood on CQN? Hope so. Tontime Tim wrote eloquently yesterday expressing what I trust is the position of the too often silent majority, certainly of the grey brigade.

  18. Question for today.

Ye see this outfit, who are currently “ 8 in a row, second tier, world beaters” and playing under the name of “The Rangers” – Does anyone know who actually owns their stadium?

    Show us ra deeds

    Question for tomorrow

Do you think we will ever find out who was Charlotte Fakeover

If only somebody had taped the telephone calls?

It would be weird if Craig Whyte and Charles Green and Mike Ashley were all palsly walsy way back before all this stuff kicked off, so it would.

Nae sevconians lifted today? Jeez it’s a slow day is it not? Ach well its only 8 o clock.

We are the frauds, we are the frauds, we are, we are, we are the frauds!

  19. I know posting here makes sod all difference but enough is enough with the refugees from Syria. We bomb them, allow ISIS to take over then leave women and children to die at sea and in trucks. “I did cite that Balde was doing ‘well’ if he’s at Metz on the basis that that’s a good level of professional football so respect is due.

So I don’t think you should feel as though I’m putting words in your mouth.”

No, what you said originally is quoted below:-

“you cite how Balde is now doing well at Metz as evidence that he’s a good(ish) player. I think the same could be said of scepovic, Rasmussen, the fridge laddie and perhaps pukki too. ”

Note the personal pronoun in sentence 1 and the change of pronoun in sentence 2. Hence- you put your estimation of Balde in my mouth/words.

“As for the recruitment strategy for strikers to fill our present gaps:

    Tall

    Pacy

    Physical

    18-25 y/o

So much like our new centre back, except with a 9 on his back.”

How many of those indicators were met by Balde, Pukki, Scepovic, Rasmussen, Frifjohnson etc? I think most of them ticked 4 out of 5. Even, Michael Duffy, at loan at Alloa, meets those criteria. Of course Tony Watt had them all but he had another characteristic that undermined all 5 of them.

“When – if! – we ever buy him give him some ge time! Balde’s 4 mins here and there didn’t allow him any chance for a run of games. Though his attempts to head/pass the ball back to Danny McGrain in half time drills were alarming.”

Amido played in 20 games for Celtic- a couple of them were even in the starting 11. As usual, he showed a mixture of raw promise- something different, and an abject lack of involvement with Celtic build up play. He was a go it alone finisher who did not finish too often. As a fair minded manager, you can only go on so long selecting players who have not earned or justified a place. The other players tend to object. And, if you are about to cite Johansen, he has shown bad form on the back of a POTY season- he earned the right to a few bad games ( he should still be dropped for a bit but European games tend to militate against dropping senior pros whom you rely on).

“Similarly scepovic has gone without me personally thinking he had sufficient prolonged game time to embed him in the team.”

Agree- it was strange but he too got 19 games without ever establishing himself. We have to be careful of viewing their past performances as better than they actually were. I have no doubt that like the other Celtic failures, he will have a decent career elsewhere.

“That disconnect between recruitment and integration into the team is surely something you acknowledge.”

I would frame it differently as it is difficult to embed, even promising new recruits, into a squad with 18 internationalists ahead of them. They need temperament factors on top of skill, which each did not bring to this country.

But, as I repeatedly said, I was not arguing against the precept that we have had problems in buying or integrating. I agree with that view.

Where I depart is in believing that you and most of the other critics have come up with any helpful suggestions beyond the fairly benign and harmless- “we should try and do it better”
