CELTIC 1 HAMILTON ACCIES 0

LETHAL Leigh Griffiths hoisted Celtic to an eleven-point lead at the top of the Premiership with the winner against hard-working Hamilton Accies at Parkhead tonight.

Last season’s 40-goal man was the player who mattered with the strike that brought victory.

Griffiths and Moussa Dembele were given a rare start together in attack by Brendan Rodgers and repaid their boss after 38 minutes when they linked up for the only goal of the game.

Tom Rogic created the opportunity with a superb defence-splitting pass which Dembele slipped to Griffiths after drawing Hamilton keeper Woods.

The Scotland international still had work to do to get into space before calmly rolling the ball over the line.

Accies were blitzed 8-1 on their last visit to Parkhead, but there was never any hint of a repeat as New Douglas Park boss Martin Canning set his men out to defend first and hit on the counter.

The tactic kept Celtic’s chances to a minimum early on, but Accies offered little in attack and had to wait until the final 10 minutes for any sort of pressure.

Griffiths missed a glorious chance to double the lead as he blasted over and Tom Rogic was inches wide with a 25 yarder.

But the visitors’ only real chance came with four minutes left when sub Eamonn Brophy fired wide after some slack defending.
