Bobby Murdoch and Delaney’s, try and catch sportscene on I player. It shows the 4 3 game at Tynecastle in November 1976. Our defence in that game, even with Danny McGrain and Pat Stanton in it, wasn’t the best.

    A great summation.

I expect that you are right.

  9. Tinytim,

There is a player in Armstrong. He is being played in the wrong position. GMS was good enough as a Bosman, if we sold tomorrow we would get 6 figures it was a no brainer. Ciftci was a slightly more skilled version of your Connor Salmon, Adam Rooney type. Liam Boyce will no doubt have been watched to see if he could be moulded. There are umpteen players all over the second teams of top league teams, those in the second divisions of Italy, Spain and Germany who would have cost a fraction of Ciftci costs and done a better job. People deride Scepovic, Lassad etc even Samaras but they had more skill and ingenuity than Ciftci.

It remains to be seen if Ciftci can lose significant timber and play any role that benefits sceptic.

Someone posted the difference between our players signed in the last two years versus those signed the two years prior to that. We mainly signed players from Scotland or from either Manchestet side in the last two years where as before that, it was Israel, Belgium Honduras etc.

I have no problem in signing the top players in Scotland we have tried to identify future Svotland internationals in Armstrong etc. It’s a hopeful avoidance of some of the scenarios we have seen in the past with players coming good in England when we could have signed them. Andrew Robertson, McArthur, McArthy etc there’s a whole team of them worth tens of millions. I can understand the approach but we are trying to save money by going in early. Young Christie is a case in point. The ongoing experiment means Christie comes in with GMS likely to make way on loan.

  10. I obviously can’t speak for all Celtic supporters ,I can’t even speak for the away support .

I do want to mention some comments made to me today as I left Tynecastle.

A random Tim ,just walked up beside me and started talking.

He said ” W’e’ve got nothing.

    Not one stand out player.

We all just accept that we are going to struggle here today, and we did.

The board don’t care about us.

    The whole things a mess.

The away support always back the team and believe that we will win anywhere.

    That’s no longer the case.

All my mates just accept that we are shite, and are only here for the day oot.

That’s how far we have dropped.

    I’m gutted with this shit.”

Now that random guy cannot speak for all regular away supporters, but his lament struck a cord with me.

The benchmark should not be to compare with the worst times in our history.

It should be to emulate the best .

  14. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Setting free the bears, in the lead up to one of our goals in that game, jolly Jim gave away a foul and was greetin at the ref. Somethings never change.

The time we beat them 3 nil a few years ago and he was bleating about our first two goals being offside when both were onside as proved by the footage. I am still waiting for his and hearts public apology to Neil after being attacked at Tynecastle.

  15. Calm doon all you Drama Queens

We were the best team on the park so i think a draw before the game would have been a good call.

  16. Tiny Tim.

Just logged in ,& read your post regarding a fellow fans comments at Tynecastle today.

Having met you once(Firhill) and read your posts with interest since I acknowledge your concerns.

Where we differ is not with concerns about Ronny ( I have plenty) but with the strategy from his superiors.

    Ronny is the fall guy.

Despite a lack of quality and experience in the first eleven today I still witnessed , from the comfort of my couch to be honest, was a team playing for their manager and the fans.

    I saw effort and commitment.

I’ll take that. While I wait for the suits to put the FC before the PLC.

  17. Dallas Dallas

It must be a Hearts thing. When their fans marred a minute’s silence to mark John Paul II’s death the manager, Robertson, excused them saying, ‘They’ve got their songs and we’ve got ours.’ Pathetic.

  18. Not signing a decent striker before the last window closed for me was criminal, someone should have got they’re jotters for that. Surprise, surprise the chickens are coming home to roost. We then compounded the error, panicked and are left with a player who will more than likely contribute little.

That’s not the sign of a well run club and we have been fortunate that Leigh hasn’t been injured before now.

It’s gambling with the title and smacks of a serious lack off ambition.

My biggest disappointment today was for Efe who was outstanding, Dundee is now must win.

  19. EDDIEINKIRKMICHAEL…

Great game for the neutrals today, plenty of action, some great goals. Typical refereeing performance where the ref played 2 set of rules. Look at the Ciffci booking for using an elbow, about 10 mins earlier Hearts player did the same, result foul to Celtic yet no booking. Efe booked after Hearts player takes him out after the ball had been played. But hey we’re used to this kind of display.

A great game for the neutrals? Pity not a great one for the Celtic. Personally, I think the referee was the least of our troubles.

Anyway happy enough with the result and the performance against a decent Hearts team at a venue we have struggled at previously. Given our injury concerns I’m happy tonight, got to say some real nuggets on here at times.

We’ve won our last 8 games there. You’d need to go back to 2011 to find a defeat. So, on the cusp of 2016, it’s a stretch to reference matches from 2011 as evidence it’s a good result. Or a venue w’ve struggled at. Quite the opposite is true.

Clearly we have different standards, because from my viewing I see little to be happy about and lots to be worried by.

I fail to understand the ‘see no evil’ outlook – you’re ignoring Celtic struggling in order to display some faux ‘faithful through and through’ image – not to Celtic, but to a manager who up till last year had zero connection to Celtic. Over the course of the last week I have came to understand why some folk have perfectly valid reasons for thinking Ronny will come good, but to declare yourself happy with where we’re at? It defies logic.

Some of our play was exceptional in the first 30 mins. Overall we played well, how some can call for the manager to go when we’re sitting top of the league and still in 2 cups is simply ridiculous.

The sad truth is that 30 minutes of football within a match is pointless and worthless. Unless the other 60 minutes display an ability to hold onto a lead, 30 minutes of scintillating football (and even the most delirious happy clapper couldn’t describe any of todays play as scintillating either) isn’t worth a whit.

And you point ignores the other darker side of the season – humiliation in Europe.

The reason people are calling on Ronny to go is simple – even with a paucity of competition in the SPL the manager is displaying Lou Macari levels of incompetence. An inability to work out correct tactics, formation or his best team is telling. As is a continual failure to identify players that will improve things. 3 transfer windows into the Ronny regime and both team and squad as far far poorer than they were. Youth hasn’t been improved and I’m failing to see where he’s improved the older players.

Kriss Commons – 30 goals a year midfielder with a penchant for looking a wee bit heavy is now a 7 goals a year midfielder unable to command a first team slot or seemingly last a full match. Several million spent on the Dundee Unt midfield and forward line and they’re looking, well, Dundee Unt class.

Ronny promised fitter and better prepared players? I guess we have the injuries to show for the overtraining, but other than John Collins’ legendary 6 pack, that initial boast looks like A. arrogant tosh and B. John Collins’ inspired arrogant tosh. The team has gone backward at a pace. It looks less tactically aware and, ironically far far less fit and motivated.

I still remember how our support turned against Fergus after swallowing the lies of the MSM, seems there are still a few who believe what they read.

Much like the rest of your post, that’s also uninformed tosh and rhetorical fallacy. I may have thought booing Fergus on that occasion was harsh, simply because it was a nice occasion and I think we should have indulged in a bit of happiness, but Fergus wasn’t without his issues. His inability to get on with pretty much anyone marked him out as a Souness-esque character. I appreciate what he did for Celtic, but I suspect that Gerald Weisfield would have performed a similarly good job and caused less ructions. To suggest that any display of unhappiness with Fergus is because of the MSM is both false and disingenuous. It does you no credit to malign fellow Celtic fans with no clue why people booed. Your *opinion* is because they followed the MSM. That doesn’t make it fact.

My father was on cordial terms with Fergus. Anyone that knew him would admit that he was a difficult and truculent man at times. He had little time for dissenting opinion. When that is put to positive use, it’s a bonus. When it’s negative? It’s a problem. I don’t think Fergus should have been booed that day, but I fully understand why he was – and it wasn’t because of the media. He had a stunning inability to empathise or be balanced beyond his own opinion.

  20. FRITZSONG…

It must be a Hearts thing. When their fans marred a minute’s silence to mark John Paul II’s death the manager, Robertson, excused them saying, ‘They’ve got their songs and we’ve got ours.’ Pathetic.

I don’t think it is pathetic. Firstly, I have no idea why a Pope dying would warrant a minutes silence at a football ground anywhere in the world. Secondly, people are entitled to voice their dissent.

For example, I refused to take part in the minutes silence for the “Queen Mother”. She was a blight. And someone who I had no respect for. Further, I fail to see why there would be a minutes silence for her at the football. I went out of my way to not observe it. And I’d do it again. Moreover, I *will* do it again should the occasion rise.

Likewise Hearts fans and the pope. It’s beyond question that JP11 turned a blind eye (deliberately or by omission) to several scandals, child abuse and Vatican bank fraud. Add into that mix institutionalised homophobia and I’m seeing a picture of someone who’s silence should NOT be respected.

If someone wishes to observe a minutes silence based on their faith I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with that respect and expectation being pushed onto others. Freedom is a complex thing and a two way street. Freedom to be dissenting is as important as any other freedom. The hearts fans were within their rights to fail to observe the silence. Just as you were given to opportunity to observe it. And the manager observing his clubs rights is, in my estimation, correct.

  21. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Fritzsong, they are a horrible shower. We used to stay close to Hampden and we had Pakistani neighbours. The only racist abuse they received from football fans was by hearts fans.

I know some of our support gobbed on Craig Gordon and the culprits came forward aftet a media campaign. I’m still waiting for the Hearts fans who hit Rab Douglas with coins to be identified.

I thought John Robertson was a really good player but from comments he had made over the years, his attitude towards us is similar to that of Jolly Jim.

The hearts hatred of us has got worse since 1986. I wonder if anyone had pointed out to them that games in that season they settled for one goal wins or drawing in a match is what cost them the league that season.

  22. cowiebhoy, just left your broinlaw at irish club. only thing at irish club is new years eve but celtic club have a great new years day shindig.
