It all goes on the line at Hampden tomorrow

Games come thick and fast when you remain in all competitions in late October. The Allianz Arena got your heart beating on Wednesday, but much more is on the line at Hampden Park tomorrow: the first trophy of the season.

While our unbeaten domestic run goes on the line every game we play in Scotland, I wish we were not facing an occasion as important as a cup semi-final immediately after such a huge Champions League occasion. The timing of this game contributes towards Hibernian’s chances of success.

Neil Lennon’s Hibs have already won at Ibrox and drawn at Celtic Park this season. They genuinely have no fears about making the trip along the M8 to face Celtic at the national stadium. While Celtic players were draining every muscle of energy on Wednesday, Hibs players were resting in front of the television. They would have been tucked up in bed before Scott Brown and his team-mates got to Munich Airport and have enjoyed the benefit of a week’s uninterrupted training.

For Brendan Rodgers, the challenge is to pick a team with sufficient energy and ability to ensure a cup final appearance next month. He is able to make changes, which I expect to happen.

Moussa Dembele and Tom Rogic should start. Callum McGregor enjoys the Hamden stage and I would give him the nod ahead of Olivier Ntcham or Stuart Armstrong in the central mid berth, although Brendan will think otherwise.

We are the champions and treble winners for a reason: that we have unerringly raised our standards to meet every challenge presented. Tomorrow is another occasion when our deep reserved will be called upon.

Enjoy your day at Hampden.

  1. Ghuys and Ghals,

I’ m an avid reader but infrequent poster but felt compelled to comment that it was incredible to have 10,000 fans in Munich this week, and that it was carried out by and large without incident.

I’ve actually lived in Munich since 2007 with my family and was at the game on Wednesday of course.

I really, really hope that the majority of our fans at the game saw the same as I did, that the people of Munich and the fans of Bayern were genuinely delighted to have us there. They allowed us to drink, dance and party on their streets, travel on their S & U bahns unhindered and walk amongst them to and from the game without the slightest threat of violence.

Over to us to repay this on the 31st.

  2. Maybe just me (accepting I do not rate him as highly as others)

Struggle to understand the clamour to have Calum McGregor starting tomorrow

He has been a squad player and not first team regular for a reason.

In my view, not as good as Armstrong, Ntcham, Rogic etc, who again in my view would be playing in front of him.

  3. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Art of War, its good his spirits have been lifted with hs fellow patients being entertained by his pal.

Park Road, the accent change by the likes of Gerard, Lulu and that Easton wan , don’t endear them to us.

    Definitely bed time for me.

No worries re Brendan’s philosophy domestically, but we will lose at some point – nothing to do with the philosophy. It won’t be tomorrow though.

In Europe it worries me more and I’m afraid we might take a few 5/6/7-0 defeats because of it. I’d rather he tweaked things a bit to avoid that as it makes some of the Euro nights a bit of a dread that we could lose a record number of goals.

Bayern could easily have scored 8 on Wednesday.

  5. Guys, reality check required.

    Bayern 5 Arsenal 1 (twice)

    Bayern 6 Porto 1

    Bayern 7 Shakhtar 0

    Bayern 5 Dinamo Zagreb 0

    Roma 1 Bayern 7

    Bayern 7 Barcelona 0

All in the last 5 years.

Moaning (about kick off times) is a sign of weakness ???

Kev I think we are of the same vintage (born in 1970) if Brendan is showing weakness after bringing silverware & trophies surely our Brendan is allowed an opinion ? Weakness Only in the the Celtic fan(s) who don’t appreciate the good times

  11. No Celtic fan in their right mind would even contemplate criticising Brendan based on what he’s done so far.
