It’s not just about genius

“People don’t realise how hard he trains or how much he works at it” – Kieran Tierney, talking about Leigh Griffiths. Therein lies a story. One young player, who has worked enormously on his development, recognising the efforts of our other clear success story from this season.

Anyone who believes there is a consistency in the application at training of professional footballers is misinformed. Some are there early and/or stay late to work on their own. Some breeze in at the last minute and never hang around to run, lift or practice with a ball after formal training ends.

The club provides players with breakfast and lunch, but can’t monitor their evening meals or snacks. Or more. Some don’t need to be monitored, others do.

In three months we’ll watch thousands of dedicated athletes, swimmers and sportspeople of many disciplines, pretty much all who work on their development 24×365. Some live lives in the margin of early rises and hermit-like lifestyles. Most footballers live a different reality.

Things are changing at Celtic – and have been going on since before the Ronny era. Players like Kieran Tierney have been brought up to understand the importance of lifestyle and hard work. For years, young players’ attitude has been a major factor in determining if Celtic will retain their services.

Success is not just about inherent genius.

  1. This public setting up of a meeting between Neg & Pedro has gone silly.

Surely Neg & Winning Captains can get each others e-mail address & correspond directly and if Winning Captains has the where with all to set up the meeting & Neg is willing to go then it would be an extremely positive thing from which we all could benefit if Neg fills us in on how it went.

I cross swords with Neg from time to time but asking him to write to Pedro requesting a meeting is in my opinion unreasonable.

If Paul or Winning Captains can short circuit the procedure & set it up then great, I will await the result with bated breath.

    The key word is inaction.

NegAnon states a few weeks back that he was willing to join a protest at the stadium but sadly there wasn’t the appetite for it.

Well theres at least 5 bloggers on here who are in the same boat so define ‘appetite’ in this context.

What he really means is he’ll join a protest if someone else will organise it.

In the meantime these guys are happy to sit at home and justify their inaction by telling themselves they are taking a stand against corruption. Fair enough telling us what they don’t do, they are short of detail on what they have actually done…

Some what would appear to me to be club sponsored “dry your eyes, this is as good as it gets” stuff coming from Davie Hay in the ET today. Increasingly I’m reading the club’s strategy as being one of letting the post-Sevco defeat anger blow itself out with no comment and then carry on regardless, letting our hapless Norwegian perform the role of lightning rod. Would be entirely in keeping with the radio silence in P’s blogs this week.

High risk strategy. Will the fans overlook the evidence of a passive Celtic watching the SFA and Sevco recreate the good old days? Mmmmm….

  5. Lambert odd on with Coral.Moyes 3/1,Macks 5/1. Should win league tomorrow.Sheep have poor record. V The Well. We might huff and puff. Looking back. In Jan we took 8 from the Access, our midfield was Zig and Zag, BitonMcgregor and Rogic.Lambert was brilliant with Norwich and should be able to do a job for us.

As I said in an e-mail a few minutes ago,we are tearing ourselves apart while the huns are united.

Only a clear statement of honesty and ambition is going to derail this. At the moment,it’s a car crash.

How did it come to this? It’s the worst case of mismanagement I’ve seen, tbh. And I’ve read the books on Enron,Arthur Andersen,GEC/Marconi,etc.

I suppose that’s what happens when you take your core for granted. There’s a litany of examples of that too. The aforementioned Tesco for one.

  8. I really hope Peter Lawwell isn’t spending his time meeting up with individual supporters who are unhappy with the way the club is run. Its the most inefficient use of his time I can imagine.

You doctors must feel like yer doing the hokey-cokey,the way that informed and in-depth studies keep contradicting themselves.

There’s a universally-discredited report from a previously-eminent British scientist-I’ll find out who later, strange name IIRC-in the early 70s which said that sugar was the enemy not fat. He even reckoned fructose to be a poison to humans as chocolate can be to dogs.

He is being posthumously rehabilitated now, apparently.

  11. Ernie, I noticed you had a go at the SNP(I am not a member) regarding no one allowed to offer a different opinion from the orthodox SNP view. You must recall Labour MPs being ‘on message’ throughout the 1990’s? Now Labour MPs views on a number of policies are mostly anodyne . Ken Livingstone offered a view, and now there is a witch hunt, not only to suspend him, but, to expel him like Galloway. Free Speech. T &Cs apply.
