‘KAZAKHSTAN? NO PROBLEM!’ RODGERS

BRENDAN RODGERS displayed some Irish humour after hearing Celtic would face Astana in Kazakhstan on Wednesday in the third Champions League qualifying round.

After dismissing Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps 3-1 on aggregate, the Hoops boss was asked about the travel difficulties with a team still working on its fitness after only two competitive games.

Rodgers replied: “Apart from the six-hour flight, the five-hour time difference and the 35 degree heat and the plastic pitch with no water, it should be okay.”

He added: “But it is what is thrown at us. I think you just need to adjust, we will probably fly out on the Monday, the game is on the Wednesday and just prepare the best we can.

“We have to find a way to get a performance and a result.”
