A few categories of candidates for the manager position were identified before the end of the season.
There are a couple who would be considered ideal appointments, and who would be able to get on the list for top jobs in any country in Europe. If we can land one of them, and do so within the timeframe which will allow us to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, I think we’d all be happy (apart from those incapable of happiness, you know who they are).
Then there are managers with clear potential who have overachieved with resources available to them, but who also have a bit of European competition experience. You might know less about them, but their CVs can talk. This list is more extensive.
It’s also worth remembering how Celtic (and others) operate in certain respects when appointing a manager. Clubs often interview potential managers who don’t fit their required profile out of courtesy.
If a candidate of a certain profile in the game (or at the club) asks to be considered, it’s likely Celtic would interview him instead of rejecting him out of hand. Football is a tight, interconnected, industry, where making contacts is preferable to breaking them, so don’t be distracted by newspaper stories that someone or other has been interviewed. The story is likely to be accurate, but the context will mislead.
The process itself also changes how candidates are viewed. What the potential manager says about strategy, recruitment, technology are all likely to inform the club no his suitability.
Brendan Rodgers fits the bill before formal interviewing got underway, but he’s certainly not the only high-profile candidate under consideration, and I know others are making solid running.
The important thing to bear in mind right now, is that the moment a deal is done it will be announced, and that until that moment, don’t waste your time thinking you know what’s going to happen. There are too many variables to be certain of anything.

Por Cietro,
With all the resources at the disposal of Man Utd, City, Liverpool etc.
How could they miss VVD at £13m?
24 years of age, Southampton’s Player’s and Fan’s Player of the Season.
CANAMALAR IT LOOKS LIKE OCD OBSESSION on 19TH MAY 2016 11:52 AM
I think the problem with the whole issue, is that it’s so complicated that people are simple boiling it down to more simple methods of deciding. Be it your reasoning, or the personalities involved.
It’s not really the ideal basis for the decision.
Weeminger
Aye….but what about that idea of mine yesterday.
Line up the candidates at CP.
Just like the mascots derby….first past the post.
Davie Moyes gets a 10 yard start.
Surely, that is just as good as any of DD and PL’s plans.
Cmon now…be fair:)
HH
I have a feeling that we will see BR unveiled this week. Also he will have some decent cash to spend to augment the squad. The reason being, this is,I think our last season seeded in the CL qualifiers winners route. We really have to qualify this time.DD knows this.I could be wrong though.LOL.On another matter, being employed for most of my meaningful adult life tendering for large government contracts in the Middle East.Signing off, crossing the T,s and dotting the I,s,I cannot for the life of me see where TGASL is going with his reneging of the SD deals.
MAs legal representations, have,I have to say,not filled me with any great confidence so far,but in the business world,I think he has few peers.I cannot, for the life of me see there being any loopholes that Glibby could exploit. He would have done so by now,if that were the case.
Baffling, but sure to bring us more joy in the future watching this pan out.
CLOGHER CELT
Always thought they should have bought VVD from us and paired him with Jason Denayer when they got him back, would have saved them millions, only Kompany is better of the 3/4 centre backs that they have just now, and he’s usually been injured
new article posted.
“crossing the T,s and dotting the I,s”
Possibly CQN’s best ever bit of satire there. :-)
Turkeybhoy
Strange one that.
I mean i dont know how long posters have been telling me….that Europe didnt matter.
I tried to argue otherwise….but would they listen….no.
Now its all back to the….we should be in the CL.
Yeah…..i did point that out….on numerous occasions:)

Macjay1 – Have to agree with TGM.
I read, or tried to read one of Niall Fergusons books – It was tough going to say the least.
Didn’t seem to be anyway accurate in a historical sense, just a bizarre compilation of opinions and theories.
Reading the writings of a head-the-ball here I thought.
Ended up throwing the thing in the bin.
Maybe he’ll have something sensible to say at the show.
HH.
The Donald…
He’s a bigot.Your link doesn’t change that.
He is old,he’s ignorant and he’s a pastor.I preceded pastor with orange as a play on words.
And if he’s truly a follower of Christ then he should “love his neighbour”.
Seemed more driven by mistrust and hate, not traits i’d associate with Jesus.
Weeminger, I’d say it was the safest and most logical way to make the decision, the US do not have a great track record on foreign policy or intervention in other countries domestic affairs, they approach every decision with respect what is best for the US and its business interests. Currently the ITTP is the biggest trap ever set for Europe brexit would compromise it, it would also require the US to rethink its strategy on controlling its allies as all the major allies in the one European basket is easier to handle than a fractured Europe, when you consider that the euro govt in Brussels mostly govern without an elected mandate and there is no uniform manifesto to judge them against its no wonder things like the ITTP can be negotiated without consent from the euro parliament and imposed by unelected Eurocrats.
A very simple example of what the ITTP brings
A pharmaceutical company gets a license from the US FDA to produce a drug, it then is shipped to marketed in Europe, the European licensing authorities are bypassed.
The drug turns out to be unsafe and addictive, the European authorities tell the company to withdraw the drug the company refuses on the grounds it’s FDA approved, the European authorities ban the drug, the company has the right to and will sue the European authorities for loss of earnings, that’s it in a nutshell across all industries signed up it the ITTP.
This contract makes governments and the EU powerless in protecting their people and markets.
Lads,
apologies – but I’m having to post this a bit early, as I will be stuck inside a plane for a good part of the day tomorrow !
