Celtic blew Partick Thistle away this evening with a virtuoso performance, which really needed to be seen to be appreciated. They passed perfectly on the Partick pitch and should have been ahead before Leigh Griffiths got the party going with an 18th minute penalty.
By that time, Emilio Izaguirre hit the post and Tomas Cerny made a fine save from Patrick Roberts. Thistle defender Callum Booth tried to stop Roberts but mistimed his tackle to concede the penalty.
Griffiths was on fire in the first half and beat three players inside the box before crossing for Tom Rogic, who lunged to make a slight contact on the ball, but it was enough to knock it against the inside of the post. Firhill held its collective breath as the ball ran along the line before turning inside the net at the opposite post.
Leigh then setup Callum McGregor but Cerny saved again. Thistle were struggling to get onto the ball but Lindsey should have done better with a header from an Erskine cross but the ball landed in Craig Gordon’s arms.
Goal of the night game three minutes before the break. James Forrest cutback for Roberts, who fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards.
Thistle probably thought they were passed the worst but Callum McGregor got his customary goal on 82 minutes when his shot from the edge of the box hit the underside of the crossbar, bounced half a meter over the line and out, but the assistant referee correctly indicated the goal.
Tom Rogic was clean through with the keeper to beat twice late in the game, but substitute Thistle goalie, Ridgers. Tom couldn’t get enough on his header but the Thistle defence gave possession to Patrick Roberts on a plate. The England Youth international jinked before curling a memorable goal beyond the despairing keeper.

Pretty fantastic stuff tonight and what a display from wee Paddy.
Great piece of man management by Brendan after Griff’s strop. A complete contrast to how RD and JC handled the Commons strop.
Really chuffed to have been able to watch that tonight with my boy and relegate the size 22 to the other side of acgr towers. Roll on Sunday and what could be an extremely special day at CP, although as I understand it, the last time Almore and his bro visited they put the hex on us. Almore, buck up yer ideas.

What’s the problem mate? If it’s this:
“I actually think he has been one of the few disappointments this year”
then I qualify it in the next 10 words:
“purely because of the high expectations I had for him”
He’s been sensational since he got his starting place back. I would remortgage my house to help keep that boy in Paradise.
I would be divorced but a small price to pay
Just watching the recording of the game, fast forward to the substitution, Griffiths comes off, first issue, no eye contact with Sinclair and the high five is very half hearted. I don’t think those two get on. They don’t necessarily need to.
Then Leigh has a word with Bren, Brendan is absolutely fuming and tells LG to sit down, LG persists, you can tell Brendan is seriously unimpressed. Brendan is big on respect, i was at a function where he spoke, there were a few drunkards at the back being a bit noisy. He was not impressed with them at all.
Brendan has boxed clever at the end by hugging Leigh in front of the cameras. However, Leigh will get an absolute rocket behind the scenes. Trust me, he will never pull a stunt like that again. If he does his Celtic career will be over. Leigh is fans favourite, he knows it and milks it, rightly so. But he should be under no illusions, Brendan wont care about that one bit. LG only needs to look at Izzy and Gamboa if he wants to understand what being a team player is all about.
St Stivs, Mrs acgr went hun mental crazy berserk tonight when I calmly explained I wanted my onesie converted to a halfsie. Arms and legs removed and in need of the nimble touch of an woman expert with the needle and the thread.
Alas, her chubby fingers are not up to the task so if you know a good seamstress pleas get in touch. Its looking good for Lisboa……………………….:_)

Mind the game Jock Stein chased wee Jinky up the tunnel?
*********
Exactly what I was thinking at 9:19 p.m. Special talents need special handling.
Tonight was something special …..Whit a buzz……
The lucky five thou….will be high for days. God bless em.
Roll on Sun and take us up there among Legends of Sporting History.
Take that Monkeyland……

ACGR: I thought about posting about that but I don’t want to put the mockers on it:-)
Sunday will be truly memorable. Canny wait.
C U soon
TTR: Spot on. I understand Leigh’s disappointment but there will be consequences for him(Leigh)

That impressed me as much as anything. It’s easy in a winning team to go and hug and celebrate with the star players. When Rodgers goes out of his way to praise and embrace players who don’t even make the bench most weeks then that shows you how much everyone is pulling together
Where’s Big Jimmy? Hope you are ok. Missed you today. Did you get to The Admiral to watch the game?
I don’t believe Dembele or Sinclair are better than LG but BR does, respect is a two way street
Evening all
Just in from Firhill. Walked home along the canal and met a bloke trying to catch wood pidgeons for his ferrets. Or was it the other way round?
Thought we were fabulous tonight. No weak links and some nice dilemmas for the final. Paddy had his best game since joining but the general play of the team was what really impressed me- brilliant modern football but still reminiscent of the team I watched as a child. Thistle were outclassed and if they ar3 a top 6 side God help our football overal – still not as bad as the Huns mind you.
And a wonderful atmosphere.
God bless us

ACGR …. I am hearing that you will Torontony’s minder on the Lisbon trip …. good luck with that!!
…. and, a bit of advice … watch your food while he’s around … he has been known to eat a few sausages and rolls that dont belong to him!
Just been reading back, sounds like one of our best displays for a while.
And there’s some competition for that!
I’ll watch a highlights show in the morning, but thanks, folks, for the descriptions of the action.
And thanks also to the eejit who posted all about Spurs in the first half then effed off to the pub.

Mmmm Canman….Different styles no?
Hard to seperate them………….

TTR, watching the game live it looked like the griff may have swore at BR. It looked like that to me but my lip reading is not what it used to be.
Our manager is expert at managing his player and their ego’s, this will blow over. I just hope we don’t have the same pish as we did when Commons had his spat with our previous management team.
We need both the griff and BR on top form for the next two games.
Not sure if I mailed re the clubs we’ll be using in Lisbon. I called the course yesterday just to make sure all was in order and to ask about the make and quality of clubs we’ll be getting on hire. The pro tells me that all clubs are good quality Taylornmade.
I’m assuming their rentals will all be cavity back but if you play with blades we can ask on arrival if they have something more suitable for your level.
I’ll try to post the teams on sunday / Monday and post here / mail all the sclaffers. I need to split up certain groups e.g myself and my boy, the Canadians and the frenchies so I’ll do that and get the 22 to draw the rest randomly. I don’t want to have to do this on the day,
Its going to be a great day oot.

LOL Maryhill CSC
@Bobby wish you couldv’e seen the whole game…Superb
The highlights will not do the Tic justice……
Look everybody what;s that sound…………OOft
Cellic
Who would win a fight between grumpy wood pigeons and bamboozled ferrets
Drambiwie,
40 goals last season and used as an extra this season, no, neither of his replacements came near his output for last season and he has been denied the opportunity to replicate that form because he is not in future plans, regardless of what he does on the park it seems. As far as BR is concerned LG will only ever amount to a bit part player, that the impression I get on form so far.
WITS oot
DRAMBOWIECELT
Due to being an autumn jinx,I wasn’t allowed to go to a match when I was home then. Lisbon meant I couldn’t go later in the season, not enough holiday time. So I’ve not seen us at all this season, first time in 50 years,I think.
The above info may lead to me being sine died, due to us doing rather well without me(!)
TV for me for the last two matches, party time in Swindon then Lisbon!
Canamalar
I beg to differ
Griffiths was first choice centre forward at the start of the season
He got injured
Dembele came in and was brilliant
If Griff hadnt been injured early on,it might have been different
No doubt you wont agree
Will this slump never end?….
Anyone still unsure about C Mc G? Thought he was superb tonight and deserves to start the final…
CANAMALAR
There’s a big game at Wembley next weekend, worth about £200m min to the winners. Any manager from that League who wants the goals needed to get his team there next year should be battering down the door for Griff.
He’s a tremendous scorer, and has provided a right few assists this season. BR will recognise his frustration,a few quiet words,it’s done.
WITS,
I hope you are right but my impression is that LG will only ever be a squad player under BR.
Both fit, he will choose Dembele 9/10
Great to see Kolo getting a cameo but he actually looked like a victim of his own success when he came on.He,s helped bring our defence onto a whole new level but I’d rather remember him in his prime!
A CEILER GONOF RUST on 18TH MAY 2017 10:48 PM
Don’t worry about the clubs and what have you, whatever is fine. Thanks for your efforts in arranging, I appreciate it. It will be a grand day in the sunshine!
Canmalaar
I agree
Both fit he will pick Dembele
So would I
At the start of the season I would have picked Griff
So would Brendan ( I think)
We need them both
Ying and Yang
Grumpy and Bamboozled
BMCUWP,
If Henke wasn’t good enough to play in England, what chance LG, remember your talking about the best football league ever played by the best players ever to pick up a wage :)
In all my years watching Celtic I honestly don’t remember a time when I wanted the season to continue like I do with this one.
Phenomenal Celtic, thank you.
A special mention to the Bhoys Ultras group for their brilliant display.
Also to wee McGregor who I thought was fantastic tonight.
WITS,
What are you up to ?
I’ve changed my mind, agreement is not an option, we can’t live like this
HT,
The pyro was a disgrace, I nearly missed a couple of passes on the telly, never mind all those poor asthma and TB sufferers gasping for breath like beached fish. A bloody disgrace if you ask someone who was looking for an excuse for a moan.
Canman..next season will be very interesting..rewarding..
And downright feckin off the scale wonderwomanish…..:)
H.H
Credit to the Lino for allowing the 4th goal, i was right in line and sure it went over, but not certain. TV replays make these decisions look easy but they aren’t.
Canamalar
Do you want me to give you a big Brendanesque kiss on the cheek
ye can feck off (((
@Bobby…..You a jinx? nae feckin chance….
Emdae wae your savvy in moosic is blessed ..
How are the Wombles 45’s surviving :)
H.H
Drambowiecelt,
Like HT I’m loathed to see this season end but can’t wait for next season to gauge ourselves against the real quality of Europe and I will be disappointed if we don’t make the final, like I am every other year :)
With Dembele and Sinclair in the team there’s no excuses :)
