Principled resignations, ASA withdraw adjudication

1739

I cannot fathom why someone would leak their intentions to quit as chairman of a football club.  Either Walter Smith is sufficiently alarmed by the conduct of his club to resign, or he should be busy working to resolve matters.  Leaking that he intends to resign will surely only add to the nonsense that surrounds the club.

Some will believe that Smith, who accepted the position as chairman of Rangers International when season tickets went on sale in May, can shuffle of the scene now 34,000 tickets have been sold.  Shareholder votes will determine the future of the club, in this instance, the identity of the chairman has little reach beyond parting fans with their cash.

Some investors may consider a more immediate problem is why the club are burning a hugely disproportionate amount of cash to secure promotion from the third tier of Scottish football, and why a management structure is not in place to deploy resources more effectively.

In light of Francisco Sandaza’s off-the-cuff comments to Tommy in Glasgow, and his subsequent dismissal by Rangers International, we urge Mr McCoist to be more cautious than he was after his team’s spirited, but ultimately fruitless, performance in Forfar on Saturday.  It would be unfortunate if McCoist transgressed a condition of employment and suffered accordingly.

Advertising Standards Authority ruling withdrawn

It doesn’t rain but it pours.  The Independent Review Process of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has looked into the ASA’s recent, and widely reported, ruling on Rangers International’s claim on football titles won by a liquidated club. The Review found that “it was a procedural flaw for the ASA to have relied on an extract only of a report sent to it by the advertiser”.

Further, the review process ruled that “there was also the risk of a substantial flaw of adjudication in the distinction that had been made between ‘club’ and ‘company’, especially in the light of previous ASA decisions about companies that change hands and the circumstances in which the new company could or could not trade off the reputation of the old company”.

The Chairman of the ASA, Lord Smith of Finsbury, as decided to reopen the ASA’s investigation into the case and to withdraw the published adjudication, which favoured the advertiser.  Withdrawing this adjudication does not infer that a different outcome will subsequently be reached.  To use a football analogy, it’s half time and they’re all square.

An interesting, and potentially critical part of the story, is that after the initial ASA decision was issued, the club’s web site noted that their submission to the process included information that a “panel of the London Stock Exchange” supported their claim.

The Stock Exchange subsequently appeared surprised at this assertion, so much so that the club promptly withdrew the claim from the web article.

“You’re history, that’s what you are, na na na na”.

I wondered on saturday if there would be any recriminations when the GB were doing there lateral movement. I know the club are dead against it for safety reasons.

KAyal 33 – there are rules regarding how many clubs a player can be registered for in a given time frame, but they probably could flog them – they won’t be registered properly yet.

How can they car boot them, if they are not registered ….. Players will hold there own as they are free agents until the are registered at sfa

  4. This Green Brigade story is strange one indeed.

Here we are savouring the misfortune of the deadybears and “shazam!” a story appears that is guaranteed to have the Celtic support in uproar.

Curioser and curiouser. Now where have we read about planting negative “stories” recently. By the time it is clarified then the truth will have been lost in the smoke and fog of battle.

Any hints for good grub in Barcelona. Staying on the rambla ?

    – Take the bus tours – you can jump on and off at the stops spending as much/little time as you like in each place. La Sagrada Família is a must.

    – Les Quinze Nits just off the Rambla is an excellent restaurant, great food, good price. Usually ques outside, but well worth waiting in line.

I’m a bit 50:50 on this. On the one hand I think it’s all a bit petty and pathetic. On the other hand they can’t say they weren’t warned and if they can’t organise themselves to try and do as requested for even one game, then it seems inevitable.

However, I only saw about 1/4 to 1/3 of the section engaged in the activity and that was all above the entrance. Anybody sitting below would be rightly aggrieved if they are denied entry. I’d expect them to be onto the club with their seat details demanding a ticket for an open part of the ground.

You’d be mad not to go to St Joseps market, about half way down La Ramblas on the right hand side.

Big market but the food stalls are excellent, full of locals paying local prices.

Well worth the trip (and the fish is braw) (as is the local wine)

    Though breakfast or lunch only!!

canamalar1 there’s a food market on las ramblas, just off to the side. forget the name but it’s good.

also there’s a street called carrer de blai in the poble sec area which has loads of great wee tapas bars, very reasonably priced too. highly recommend it.

the gaudi park is good as is sagrada famila. the beach is good too but cheaper to bring your own beers/food.

Barcelona food – Ciutat Comdal, one street north of Plaza de Catalunya on the Rambla – really excellent food, friendly staff, very busy but they give you an estimate for how long to wait if your queuing and you can have a drink while you wait so no problem.

I would thoroughly recommend the official bus tour – you get a great appreciation of what Barcelona has to offer, audio commentary, can hop off and on anytime you like – I spent a full day on it, toured the Camp Nou amongst other things – tremendous

No. They’ve followed through on their warning that that section would be closed for at least one game, if the fans in that section did not adhere to the rules of the ground.

  18. The Green Brigade are disappointed to announce that our section in 111 is to be closed by Celtic Football Club. Pathetically, this is due to ‘lateral movement’ which has been deemed ‘unsafe’ by the club’s directors. Our group and section has continually made concessions and strived to be co-operative with the club over various safety concerns so we are left dismayed that such drastic and immediate action has been taken over such a trivial and harmless movement.

The group is currently seeking legal advice and will consult with those in our section over the coming days. A detailed statement shall be released over the next few days and we’d advise all within our section to take no action until we have had the opportunity to discuss our options together. We would like to stress that this is not the end of the Green Brigade. Decisions and hurdles like these will only strengthen our group’s resolve. We would like to thank the Celtic support who have continually backed, funded and inspired our group from our formation to the present day and can assure you that none of this support will have been in vain.

Been to Perth a few times. First trip there staying at the Sheraton – well imaging my surprise as i walked out of the front door only to see huge pub sign across the road –

Fenians – rubbed my eyes a few times – indeed a pub called Fenians. Named after the famous escape by Fenian prisoners from Freemantle jail onboard The Catalpa. Actually not the best bar for a Tim when i was there all they showed was fecking Cricket.

The leaders of the Green Brigade are full of their own importance and not very bright. They’ve been warned repeatedly over safety issues but paid no heed. Their stupid, inflammatory language in their arrogant statements says it all. No-one but themselves to blame.
