Rallying call to supporters from the manager

1060

Neil Lennon’s interview with the official site was the second resounding State of the Club address from Celtic within a week.  The manager said:

”Clearly, in terms of where Rangers do play, that is now a matter for others to decide upon, it is something we have no control or influence over.

“We must now move on, and move on with a collective unity between the supporters and the club and the team.

“We need to stand strong, shoulder to shoulder and all work together to continue to move the club in the right direction.

“We want as many fans as possible to come back to the club and take their seat at Celtic Park and invest in the club as much as possible.

“We are now looking forward and not back, we have a vibrant young team, I want to progress this team as far as I can but we cannot do this without the fans’ support.

“There will be no slacking off or complacency, we have a lot to look forward to and that´s what we are preparing for, but I need to be very clear, we need our fans with us every step of the way.

“We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season but we need our fans right with us”.

“It´s imperative we make inroads in Europe again this year and it would be nice to get through the qualifiers and into the Champions League group stages, but I´m under no illusion how difficult that´s going to be

“Everyone wants to play at the big table and that´s our whole focus. We go into this as champions and that is a fantastic feeling, so hopefully that will give the players an extra spring in their step.

“If we qualify then you never know where it will take us.”

I hear season ticket sales are up on the corresponding period last season but the message from Neil is clear, with the driver for high-value corporate ticket sales missing, Celtic are more dependent on ordinary supporters buying tickets than ever before.

This is your tax-and-supplier-paying-champions-today-and-next-season-Celtic.  You wouldn’t rather it any other way so get along and enjoy it.

if any Scottish club took the SFA to the civil courts then UEFA would demand that the SFA suspend that club from football.

I think the club is in a very difficult position.

It basically cannot comment on the fact that the SPL since its inception has been a rigged competition.

How many hundreds of millions of pounds of Celtic fans money has been spent on watching a corrupt league ?

It is plainly insulting not to address this issue but ask fans to still pay for what is still a corrupt competition.

I suggest that Neil Lennon doesn´t give two tuppeny sucks about that.

Unfortunately we do and like Peter Lawwell …we pay his wages

FIFA v. unlikely to step in even if Statutes aren’t upheld. But it’s clear Rangers in Div 1 goes against all principles of “sporting merit”.

    ——

Sporting “merit” and sporting “integrity” are two different things.

“Sporting merit” was the reason used by the Italian FA to promote “Fiorentina Newco” two divisions (from Serie C2 to Serie B, skipping Serie C1) rather than the single promotion to C1 they should have had following having to re-start their Newco in C2, the bottom division.

It was controversial, but FIFA didn’t complain. “Sporting merit” could become the latest term to be aware of …

  7. If SevCo 588 are in the SFL Div 1 next season, then the Scottish game is dead

It is up to the SPL clubs to kill this idea stone dead by refusing SevCo entry unless they have worked their way properly through the 3 Divisions

Have any of the SPL clubs issued a vote of no confidence in Doncaster?

Or are they all happy with the way he is conducting affairs?

    …………….

Yes, but if a member club took the SFA to court, for , lets just call it cheating, what would they do then? They couldn’t just ignore the situation!

  9. Aluko??? surely if the ‘Uns are looking at signing him, then we should step in ourselves with a meatier offer? He is clearly a talented player, and we could sell him on for a healthy profit. More money, spl football football and a spot on the bench in the champions league…… surely tastier than alloa away?

  10. Neil’s rallying call sounds to me that the club are concerned about getting the required support (both in person and financially) this coming season. ST sales may be up on last year, but i’d guess there are far more still unsold than the club would like to be the case. And they are worried.

Hopefully I’m reading too much into Neil’s comments.

Anyway, off to work. Back later tonight for more updating reading.

Bang on the money from our Manager again. I particularly liked “We cannot let outside negative influences dictate the mood at Celtic, we are very optimistic and we are very much looking forward to the season….”

My season ticket – and I appreciate I’m fortunate to be able to have one – is not dependent on who we play and never has been. My season ticket allows me to watch my Team, your Team, our Team. The fact we are not playing “them” in any form is something I shall celebrate but nothing will be a greater cause for celebration than when Glen Daly’s voice comes through the speakers and the cheer goes up as The Hoops emerge from the tunnel.

Some will be in Germany over the course of this week, many more will be in Amsterdam the week after. For me it’s Norwich at Paradise on 24th July and I can’t wait.

As you and others rightly pointed out “We live in incredible times”. The good news is there are many more incredible times ahead during the course of this season. Bring it on!

  23. Perhaps a number of supporters are waiting to see if Celtic sign the required experienced quality CB and striker that we clearly require to progress in the CL. Even in these most financially uncertain times for Scots football it makes sense to mount a decent attempt at qualification for the CL proper. I doubt if the money for FF has had to be found as that was likely budgeted for when we struck the deal with Newcastle last season. With a number of fringe players leaving along with perhaps one of our sellable mid field assets there is no reason for Celtic not to attempt to make one decent signing. My preference is for a quality CB which we will need in Europe.

    Paul,

I’m not happy with the grin and bear it message coming out of Celtic Park.

If justice is not done and it looks like it won’t, then Celtic and every other club who open their gates next season are condoning the actions of the corrupt ones.

I agree with Awe Naw, in that the club is in a difficult position.

Although times have changed, what would Bob Kelly do.

At the first hint of the SPL going beyond their remit, Green had them in the COS and won his case.

Now we have our manager telling us that he knows we are being cheated, but we need your money more than ever, only more of it.

Would it be fair to say that anyone who contributes financially to Scottish football is also condoning and being complicit in the scandal and corruption?

I guess it all comes down tohow much of our principles are we prepared to compromise.

Because that is what is being asked.
