Rangers destroyed by SFA

503

Huge result from the SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal tonight, absolutely enormous, perhaps the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history.  Rangers have been banned from signing players over 18-years-old, for a period of 12 months and fined £160k.

For months Scottish football has lived under some huge moral questions; would the combined forces of TV contracts, the Bank of Scotland and the formidable Rangers lobby combine to subvert the meritocratic spirit of sport and see rules written to see Rangers kept afloat.

The SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal made these questions moot.  In the event that Rangers fail to agree a CVA with creditors and emerge as a Newco, and IF that Newco is allowed to inherit the SPL share given up by Rangers, the Newco will be unable to sign any players of 18 years or older.

Although the SPL and SFA are able to transfer Rangers league share to a Newco, player employment contracts are with the current company, so players would not be contracted to any new company.  An SPL Newco would need to compete with 16 and 17-year-olds.

Conversely, there is nothing to stop a new football club, Rangers United, for example, sharing Firhill and applying to the Scottish Football League, from signing players of any age.  A new football club like this would inherit no financial or football punishment from Rangers FC.  Anyone aspiring to fill the gap left by Rangers would do well to navigate their plans in this direction.

In fact, scrub that first sentence, this is the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history, no perhaps about it.

  1. Lennon n Mc....Mjallby on

How can they blame Whyte ffs?

He had to withhold money to keep the club goin giving them a fighting chances of one last league against Neil Lennon, can you imagine the uproar if he had dutifully paid all their bills whilst Greggs Best Customer was 7 n 11 points ahead?

Fair enough he should’ve been paying the necessaries but GBC soon sorted that put in Europe and the Scottish cup.

And it is my fervent hope. Karma kicking them in the bottom.

  3. First off what’s the point of fining a club 160,000 pounds when they canny even pay the local newsagent?

Secondly, if a Newco Incubator Fc Rovers were to be formed, then this new club should be treated appropriately – like any new club should be treated. That means you can not fine a new club for the deeds of another club, and you can not impose sanctions against a new club as the new club have done no wrong. However, you must treat any new club as you would any other new club and consider their application into the bottom division based on their business model. I honestly can’t see how a new club could be formed, new players signed, a football ground found and a balanced budget created within the timescales needed to be ready for the start of the new season 2012/13. The only appropriate solution is to allow Rangers to die, give any new club a year to organise themselves and Dunfermline should not be relegated.

If the Scottish Football Authorities treat any New Club as if it were the Old Rangers liquidated club, then EUFA would need to get involved as this would be gross bending and cheating of the rules.

So to summarise, fining a club about to be liquidated is a complete waste of time, and imposing signing sanctions on a club about to be liquidated is a complete waste of time also. If the Scottish authorities really wanted to punish Rangers, then the appropriate action would be to find out all the games where Rangers played with illegally registered players and change all of the scores in these games to 0-3 defeats, changing the outcome of the league and cups appropriately.

The creditors want the money they are owed. Duff and Phelps are just adding to the huge accumulated bill. When are the MSM going to take pity on those who have not been paid their money instead of sympathising with the cheats and crooks. When will they focus their attention on the one man who caused all this cheating and money laundering giggery pokery – (Sir?) David Murray!

  4. Hamiltontim. That is one moving piece of writing and you should be very proud of having written it. Your da would be so proud of you. I know I am and I dont know you…..yet.

I wrote on here on the 13/04/12 as that was my da’s birthday and though he has been gone 19 years the John Thopson legend comes to mind ” They never die those that live in the hearts of the one’s they leave behind “.

So thanks for your writing what was in your heart.

I hope that our paths cross soon as I would like to buy you a drink, have a chat about parent’s and The Celtic.

Hail Hail to the Father of the Hamiltontim.

  5. Stuart Cosgrove?

An objective, intelligent voice who cuts through the spin? Aye maybe!

Or a hypocrite who feeds the dumbing down of the punters and power of a lazy scottish sports media via BBC Scotland? Aye probably.

Two voices for two audiences. He might be a ch4’executive, or once was, but his ‘comedy’ show stoked the fires of sectarianism under the flag of ‘banter’. And encouraged lazy, sycophantic media types.
