Real story of football in Scotland in Fifa corruption shadow

706

This morning world football has plenty reason to be ashamed of itself. US prosecutors yesterday charged 16 Fifa officials, on top of the 14 charged earlier this year. As well as taking bribes and kick-backs, it is alleged money designated for charitable causes such as the relief of natural disasters, were siphoned off by Fifa executives. In recent years we’ve seen how revenue from charity games have been hijacked by club officials to pay bills, or perhaps fund signing bids for Daniel Cousin.

Tomorrow you are going to see the most Ethical Football Club in the World do its thing. Thousands of you will support the Foundation Christmas Appeal by putting money in buckets as you enter the ground.

That money will do incredible things.

It will support the Scottish Refugee Council, as they aid some of the world’s most vulnerable who have recently arrived in Scotland.
people_make_glasgow_article

It will support the volunteers who run The Invisibles,  who help homeless charities in Glasgow by providing sleeping bags, clothing and toiletries for rough sleepers.

It will support the Glasgow City Mission, in their work with vulnerable adults and families with disadvantaged pre-school children.

It will support the incredible work of the Wayside Club, who provide food, shower, shaving and First Aid facilities to Glasgow’s homeless 365 days a year.

It will support Loaves and Fishes, who open their doors to people who need clothes, toiletries and food.

It will support Glasgow East Women’s Aid, who work with women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

And it will support the Salvation Army, who have been a lifeline for countless thousands for longer than Celtic have been in existence.
Salvation Army

The bar on ethics in football is not set particularly high, few clubs have a social mission as their core value. None do it like Celtic, the most Ethical Football Club in the World – bar none.

This is the story of football in Scotland 2015, no matter what happens in Switzerland or the Concafa region. You should be proud of your part in this great story.  Let’s make it a good one tomorrow – and let people know this is happening tomorrow.

Ia Tony stokes suspended without pay – that would mean he is 2 weeks short on his Christmas pay. No very ethical; )

  3. Great stuff.

The huns will be spewing at the “Most ethical club in the world” comment though.

Re: yer team…yeah, I’d go along with that. The only thing that I would change…if I could would be a, Murdo, Big Roy, Barry Robson type of ballwinner / cage rattler instead of Big Nir(he’s brilliant btw)…I know it sounds daft but, the 1st player that I put on the team sheet is, the guy who’ll battle to the last kick of the ball…if, you’ve not got that type of player in yer team well, the opposition starts to get cocky….that needs knocked oot them right away…imho

  5. No too sure how I feel about ameruka being able to find financial crimes in sport but not in war hhhmmm

  6. We may be the most ethical.

And all this with a board of tory millionaires.

    Sorry. Couldn’t let it lie.

  8. Another cage rattler that I couldny understand Celtic getting rid of….Pat McGinley ?

Ah mean, imagine putting PM oot the door so that, Peter Grant could stay in the team ?

    Wtf ?

  9. Great choice of charities. With a morally corrupt government and establishment running our lives it is important to look after one another especially the dis-advantaged in society. Well done all those who give time and money to these causes.

The USA attack on FIFA and corruption is unfortunately not a selfless act like those mentioned above. This is very clearly a political game that is scandalous to point that US law is being used in over seas countries on thread bare reasons and connections. FIFA is undoubtedly corrupt but the USA are the world champs and seem to want jurisdiction on it world wide. They’ll soon have their own people in FIFA HQ and it will be business as usual but now with the war mongering US administration having another powerful tool in their control to wield influence and obedience over those who dare question their ‘exceptionalism’. Russia 2018?

  10. How / why…would the most ethical club in the world let a group of Irish Rebel Singers into their stadium to record some of the scenes for their video with the song – “The Celtic Symphony.”

    Wtf ?

    How dare they ?

Then again….the ole Wolfies only wanted to see the Jungle!

And, who could fault that ?

Again,, that was when the Kelly’s & White’s were in control.

No chance of it now, what with all the tory-thatchers-children-allies-of-focus lets smash the Green Brigade sorts…running the club, eh ?

Keep the Green Flag Flying high on the ole Jungle roof.

  11. Very disappointed to hear Charlie is out for 8 weeks but at least its confirmation he didnae walk off in a huff

He would have provided us a steady hand in defence or defensive midfield.

I hope Rogic takes a step back from attacking midfield alongside Biton. I normally am a big defender or Johansen but he’s been off form for too long. Nobody is undroppable,

As for CB, I guess Ronny will have to persevere with Boyata and Jozo. I’d like to see them start every game alongside Tierney. We need to build a new defence.

  12. The Forth Road Bridge to remain closed for at least 3 weeks.

Obviously different engineers than the one’s who check out Minis Morgil.

  13. Morning all.

    Heartening read, Paul67.

I just hope I can attend the game tomorrow. It is already wet, wild and very, very windy down here and seems set to continue until Sunday.

  14. Belated Happy Birthday wishes to, BT’s brother Thomas who took me under his wing on lots of occasions when I used to travel with him on TOHG’s supporters bus from Blantyre. Thomas is a staunch Tim….the REAL McCOY.

As BT has said he was a wild one but, not in a hunlike way….in a, Timlike way. The only time that I seen Thomas looking rattled was during the, JRP Gordon mibbery day at ibrokes 7-1-1978…a terrible day for Celtic supporters…going to the game at ibrokes in the earlier season fixture in August 77, the driver of the bus went the wrong way and, we ended up surrounded by huns…there wisny a window left on the bus…and, we lost 3-2 after leading 0-2 thanks to a Big Shuggie double. Later that season in January…we played Killie at CP and, a young KJ went underneath the Jungle for a shortcut and, was jumped by 3 /4 older boys who gave me a kicking and, stole my scarf…I made my way round to the Rangers end of CP were some older wans where, from the bus. When I was telling them what happened…the muggers appeared and I shouted – “Thats them!”…The muggers ran and split up…Thomas and a couple of others gave chase but the muggers got away. Thomas took me back to his house in Blantyre when we got off the bus and, his mum was an absolute dream, she couldny do enough, bandages, cups of tea, biscuits…etc till they phoned my dad and he came and took me up the road.

But, Thomas was – is – and always will be a Lion-Hearted-Tim…God Bless him and, his amazing family.

Belated Happy Grand ole Birthday Thomas the Tyre Rebel.

Also…a belated Happy Hoopy Birthday to fellow nutter and, Rock-Solid-Tim

TonyDonnelly67…hope ye had a guid one fella – Hail Hail.

  15. Heart warming article Paul67. A work colleague who is a Rugby lover, is raving about a team called Celtic today. They visited his grandson in Yorkhill yesterday. He and his daughter were overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of our players. We have 3 new supporters today.

Can you imagine what the book would be like? It would make War and Peace look like an After Eight mint in comparison.

In response. The SFA are playing silly buggers mainly because we have them bang to rights.

The problem with Res12 is that four of the individuals who feature in the story are up on criminal charges which makes it difficult to be as open as the situation demands.

On top of that there is the smsm sitting on stories.

Two big outlets have the goods on the evidence kept from LNS. In spite of them expressing an interest and being given the story they are sitting on it.

If they do that on LNS how do you think they will treat Res12 which they are keen to get their hands on?

The court case will not last forever and the BTC will be settled too and if it’s for HMRC nothing will stop the consequences for the SFA.

In the meantime we keep chipping away at the base keeping the issue alive in folk’s minds with rain forests of stuff.

Somebody called Scott Mullen writing in the Evening Times reckons ot’s time for Celtic players to go on a social media course.

If only, old McNee was still writing his column in the paper, I think that he would have been up for ‘dropping’ some exclusives into the public domain…then again, Tommy Sheridan shut that paper doon…imho.

I recall McNee pointing out that, David Murray was on at his editor to sack, Gerry bhoy coz, SDM didny like the contents of some of the columns….

“Ibrox stadium is thee, biggest open air masonic lodge in the world.”

“The flag display in front of the tunnel at ibrox is, reminiscent of the Nuremberg rallies.”

“In financial terms, Dermot Desmond makes David Murray look like a pygmy.”

Wrong Gerry – the Jungle was killed – off by the Kelly’s & White’s…2 years after JC signed for us coz….the old board couldny handle all the ‘sack the board’ chanting from the Jungle…they said that they needed to put seats in to comply with Europe…why no seat the Celtic end then?

Plus the fact, JC’s contract was up when he left…he knew that the then, Celtic manager didny have it to trump the huns….keeping Peter Grant in the team, selling Pat McGinley and,…..not being shrewd enough to bring in Jim McInally from utd to battle with the maestro who was, done.

IMO this needs to be picked up by media organisations out with Scotland before anything will get done . European / English exposure of this scandal would IMO bring the house of cards crashing down .
