Regan footloose and disingenuous with the facts

456

Stewart Regan is today telling the media that only one club wants a review of what happened at Rangers during recent SFA president Campbell Ogilvie’s tenure as a director of the club. I think we can amend that slightly to read: only one LEAGUE of 42 professional clubs want a review of what happened.

It is utterly disingenuous for the SFA chief executive to portray the SPFL’s request for a review as a one-club issue. Regan is seeking protection in the amateur clubs’ numbers, ALL OF WHOM receive patronage from the SFA, against the wishes of the country’s only professional league.

You will remember how Sepp Blatter used the power of patronage with tiny Fifa nations to secure his grip on due process. Fifa money was spent and magnificent stadiums built where football scarcely had a foothold at the whim of Blatter, who enjoyed unquestioning support from micro-nations’ Associations.

When a chief executive uses the numbers in the amateur game, to outweigh the wishes of the 42 club professional league, for a review into what took place while a recent past president was a director at an errant club, you have all the ingredients for an abuse of patronage.

Stewart, all we’re asking for is a review, don’t pretend the country’s only professional league structure doesn’t exist.

To the best of my knowledge you’re the first poster who actually attends away games. Is your opinion to carry on regardless prevalent amongst the majority of away supporters. ?

I was speaking to some fans on Saturday who go to every game ( Home, away Europe et al ). This is a way of life for them , they stated it’s like a hobby.

To boycott what is in effect a way of life would be a momentous decision for them. Only they can decide if a boycott is the correct decision. Apologies for repeating myself, but the time, effort and money that these guys / guirls invest in the club , lends me to the view that it would be disrespectful to consider making a decision for them

There are many considerations. Buses booked well in advance, social gatherings etc, etc to consider.

One way or another we will get there. Collectively.

    Evening all.

Calm heads are called for (old bull / young bull).

It shouldn’t be forgotten – only 3 people have publicly suggested ‘moving on’. One has a clear vested interest and the other two probably do.

The board have gone about their business coldly and quietly despite overwhelming pressure from some of our own to do something.

BTW – Celtic fans should stay away from other club’s fan sites.

To intervene in their discourse is arrogant ( which is bad) and counterproductive which is worse.

    Hail hail

A boycott is all they will listen to, it’s the only thing that has worked in the past and it’s the only thing that will work in the future, it’s quite simple really, money talks and withdrawing the green pound will have them crapping themselvs.

As I said earlier, they never thought prior to the “Celts for Change” it would happen, it did and were are where we are, what next for us ?

Do we allow them to shaft us again, i’m sure our suits are miffed about this,it all depends on how much the great moustachioued one wants revenge I suppose.

We need to make it crystal clear where we stand, tho I know that is as clear as mud as we are not even on the same book lest alone on the same page.

Whatever, what will be will be.

The silver lining in this tale of woe.

It appears that on CQN at any rate , there is virtually unanimous support for the Board .

    Long may it last.

  6. Boycotts are divisive if not accepted by all.During the “Celts for change”campaign,a rift developed among my mates, all best mates. Some kept going, some boycotted. It got very heated sometimes, nearly violent.I know this happened with others, talking about it years later. Not easy to organise either.Personally,I would be all for it,but thats me.To many, its a way of life.It was for me when I was young.

The feeling is all over, I haven’t seen any dissenting voices on any of the boards.

If the suits do the right thing, the support will back them to the hilt, all day long.

They just have to see this through, as hard as it will be, they have to do it, else we are fecked, and I’m sure they know this, it’s now or never IMO, I just would like to live this one out, I never thot that I would see the huns die, I did, I really want to see us take on the establishment and win, that will do for this Tim.

  9. Can anyone tell me what is the point of the compliance officer

looking into the granting of the 2011 euro licence to the huns,

i dont imagine their is any punishment can be handed out,

  10. Good pics tonight from Celtic Park as PSG done a bit of sightseeing.Signed autographs posed with fans for pics.A good few fans there by the looks.

  11. In 1994, thousands of die-hard supporters many of whom had followed their team the length and breadth of the country for years decided to boycott the home fixture against Kilmarnock. This was an extremely heart-breaking decision for them to make but they knew they had no other choice if they wanted to save our club from financial ruin.

They were at a crossroads but they knew which road they had to go down. We are fast approaching another major crossroads and the turn we take will shape the future of Scottish football for ever. On the one hand, if we albeit reluctantly accept there’s nothing we can do on our own to put a stop to the cheating and dishonesty at the heart of the game in Scotland then we may as well just shut the gates to Parkhead now as the game is well and truly a bogey and the cheats have won.

On the other, if we flex our massive financial muscle and organise a boycott of those quisling clubs and anything (cup competitions (home and away), international matches, sponsors, etc.) associated with the SFA then we at least have a fighting chance of putting right one of the biggest wrongs in the history of professional sport.

To those who say those our fans won’t support a boycott, how do you know? Let’s at least talk to them and put forward the positive arguments for a boycott. I’m not suggesting it would be easy. Following the team home and away is the meat and drink to many and just the thought of not going to watch and support their heroes would be painful. However, just as most fans accepted the reasons for the 1994 boycott advocated by Celts for Change, I believe the majority of our fans would be prepared to support a boycott now. Quite frankly, the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about. If we lose this battle, we lose the war.

Boycotting is not the answer at this stage. We must stay united. I hope our Board have a plan.

A boycott of away games seems the right answer to me, probably the only thing fans can do at this point.

Doesn’t even have to be every fan, just cutting the away support in half will makes other clubs worried.

Aye, even the threat of a boycott will have many crapping themselfs, they rely on every home gate, take one away they are fecked, they really are struggling.
