RODGERS’ INTERNATIONAL WISH

1

BRENDAN RODGERS has told his players to forget about Celtic and concentrate on their countries when they are on international duty.

The Hoops boss has 13 men away from Parkhead over the next few days as they represent their respective nations – including six who are part of Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad.

Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths all got the call as the former Hoops boss put together his squad for the games against Canada at Easter Road tomorrow and, more importantly, the World Cup-tie against Slovenia at Hampden on Sunday evening.

And Rodgers wants his star performers to shut out the champions from their minds for a while as they play for their countries.

The Irishman insisted: “I always say to the players when they go away to think of their countries, don’t think of Celtic.

“They need to look after themselves, make sure they do the right things well and play as hard as they do here.

“Hopefully, they all do well and return healthy.”
