ROONEY, McLEAN BOOK DONS’ FINAL PLACE

CELTIC will play Aberdeen in the Betfred League Cup Final at Hampden on November 27 – if they beat Comedy Club Sevco Rangers at Hampden tomorrow.
Adam Rooney and Kenny McLean scored to help the Dons book their place with a 2-0 victory over Jim Duffy’s gallant Championship outfit this afternoon.
The Pittodrie side hit the woodwork twice in the first-half and had 11 corners, but were unable to break the deadlock until the 68th minute.
Rooney, who got the last-gasp winner against St Johnstone in the quarter-final, netted his seventh goal of the season while McLean made sure at the end.
Aberdeen made a blistering start, coming close to scoring with McLean’s volley forcing keeper Andy McNeil into a fine reflex save, while Jonny Hayes’ header hit the bar following a corner.
Rooney also struck the woodwork with another header in the closing stages of the opening half.
The Northern Ireland international frontman received a huge slice of good fortune, though, in the 68th minute when he got the goal that broke the barrier.
Andy Considine’s knock down found the burly striker who sent a header spinning away from the stranded McNeil. TV pictures later proved the Dons star was offside when he made contact.
McLean made certain when he tapped in with two minutes to go after McNeil had palmed away a Nial McGinn drive.
Now they await the winner of tomorrow’s second semi-final to see who they will meet next month.
