Russia, Ukraine clubs called to Joint Championship meeting

972

A group of Russian and Ukrainian clubs hoping to form a joint championship have formed an organising committee and have invited top flight clubs in both countries to a meeting in Moscow on 18th of February to formalise arrangements.

The invitation letter states, “The main goal of our organization is the development of club, national and European football”

“In order to bring football to a new level, we propose to combine multiple national championships in one tournament.  Initially Ukraine and Russia will be involved but in order to develop the strength of our game, the league could be extended to all former-Soviet countries.

“We are convinced that this new championship will be a model for other territories; this integration process is the future of football.

“This initiative will create healthy competition, increase entertainment game and increasing revenues from television broadcasts and advertising – just some of the benefits of unification.

“All of this will allow individual clubs to benefit as well as national teams, who will gain from players working in a higher standard of league.  This is perhaps a unique case in sport where all participants are able to win.

Soviet Sport spoke to several Russian teams who confirmed they will attend.  Sergei Palkin, the chief executive of Shakhtar Donetsk, was cautious, suggesting Ukrainian clubs and the Federation need to act with unity, “I hope this meeting takes place but only after Ukrainian clubs have chosen a common position.

“Then we can decide who should attend.  The Football Federation of Ukraine need to be active, they can unite clubs and deal with the proposal appropriately.”

Note their points:

“Main goal… development of club, national and European football”.

“Bring football to a new level”.

“Develop the strength of our game”.

“This integration process is the future of football”.

“This will allow individual clubs to benefit as well as national teams”.

“Create healthy competition, increase entertainment game and increasing revenues from television broadcasts and advertising”.

Amid all the talk about reorganising our game has anyone had the clarity of vision to articulate the above aspirations?  Having lived with threats from “the big five” leagues for long enough other demographically-challenged countries are putting plans in place to allow their clubs a sporting chance.  It will soon be “the big six” and thereafter, who knows?

Why on earth are we worried about the number of lower divisions we have?  Regionalise or wither on the vine – and do your best to ignore any muppet who suggests taking legal action because he got his sums wrong.  The only change worth having will be consensual and will benefit all in our game.

The Rumoured Rangers Winding Up Petition – What Is Mr Green’s Connection With the Alleged Creditor?

Alex Thomson reports today that a Singapore based company is attempting to proceed with a winding up petition in Scotland in connection with Rangers.

Orlit Enterprises alleges that £400,000 is due, according to Mr Thomson.

One wonders what a Singapore-based company could be invoicing Rangers hundreds of thousands of pounds for. Allegedly two invoices have been paid and two have not.

What can we glean from this?

First of all, the entity against which the petition is directed, should it be raised, is presumably Rangers Football Club Ltd, being formerly known as Sevco Scotland Ltd. That company owns the football club, having bought the assets from Duff and Phelps, and is in turn a wholly owned subsidiary of Rangers International Football Club PLC.

Secondly, there appears to be a possible connection between Mr Green and this company. Internet research suggests that one of the Directors of Orlit Enterprises is a lawyer called Chan Fook Meng. He is a Director of many companies, all of which is entirely legitimate.

    The connection with Mr Green?

Mr Chan is Chairman of Nova Resources Limited.

He is described as follows on their site:-

Mr Chan obtained a law degree from the National University of Singapore in 1985 and was called to the Singapore Bar on 12 February 1986. He has since then practiced as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore in various firms. In the course of his work, Mr Chan has handled and been involved in a number of corporate finance matters and various mergers and acquisitions.

Mr Chan was on the board of directors of a SESDAQ listed entity in Singapore for approximately 18 months until April 2005. During this time, he dealt with issues relating to the rescue and restructuring of the business and its acquisition of several businesses. Mr Chan is a Director of Tricor plc (AIM Listed) and Mandarin Mining plc (PLUS Listed).

Guess who the chairman of Nova Resources Limited was until May 2012, when he resigned to pursue “other interests”?

    Charles Green!

It would appear that Mr Green and Mr Chan (or at least Orlit, being one of Mr Chan’s companies) have fallen out.

With no knowledge of the details of the invoices and the apparent dispute, it would be wrong to take this as a sign that Rangers are in financial difficulty. Seeking a winding-up order can be an effective way of forcing payment.

It is embarrassing, even if Rangers have a cast-iron defence to any claim made against them.

We shall see what more is to come out about this. The taciturn Mr Green might even issue a statement!

Sooooo if I have outstanding invoices dating back to June 2012 and probably falling due for payment in August 2012

can I still call that an outstanding invoice -lost in the system?

when would that outstanding invoice become a debt in the strictest financial definition?

production line, there were some huns there as well

and, one of the Tims said – The ole Nigeria were good

stuff last night eh ? Another Tim replied – Aye, the fans

were a bit of alright as well. That was the cue for one of

the huns to think out loud – Aye, did ye see awe they green n

white ‘darkies’ wi trumpets ? Pr#cks eh?

    Sad but true.

    Off oot.

  12. Some More Info Re Orlit Enterprises’ Mr Chan’s Connections With Rangers’ Mr Green

As well as the link identified in my last post, keen readers will have noticed that another one of the companies where Mr Chan Fook Meng is listed as having an interest is Tricor PLC.

Tricor PLC, at least in 2011, was represented and advised by Allenby Capital, and in particular by Brian Stockbridge, now of course one of the executive directors of RIFC PLC.

You can see Allenby and Mr Stockbridge mentioned in this Stock Exchange announcement from 2011.

Back in May 2012, when Mr Green emerged publicly, there were rumours that the acquisition of the football club would be by a combination of Tricor, Mr Green, Mr Chan and Nazim Khan.

Mr Khan, as well as being one of the consortium, it was alleged, is also a director of Tricor.

It definitely looks as if there has been a serious falling out between old friends, doesn’t it?

  17. Just read the article Paul, and have to say I am a tad concerned. Nowhere in your article does it state that this breakaway group have invited Chas or Sevco to the table, to discuss reconstruction!

This will mean that a statement will have to be released, stating that ‘rangers’, (whoever they are), will not be taking part, never, ever, in whatever top league is formed. Also, these clubs, who have clearly blackballed, and are trying to stop the progress of ‘rangers’, may face the disasterous prospect of having games against ‘rangers’ boycotted by their scummy hoards, (I mean fans), on their run to the Champions League final in 2015. (More likely to be twenty neverteen though!)

  23. The Honest Cover-up on

This particular winding up order story may turn out to be nothing major but it’s clear there is financial trouble ahead at Sevco. Keech Jackson’s column about an uneasy truce between Malcolm Murray and Green, online grumblings about insolvency events from the same sources who predicted Craigy Bhoy’s antics and the defeating silence from Chucky the last week or so all add to another jelly and ice cream event on the horizon.

I can feel it in my bones. It’s the exact same feeling as when Our Hero was strutting his stuff in the early days, coupled with the blind denial from sevconians we became so familiar with a year ago. It’s such a déjà vu. Evidence staring us in the face, media fawning over the perpetrator, lies, cover-ups, Moonbeams and Celtic fans the only ones doing the digging to find the truth.

Anyone else just have this gut feeling?

    Let’s agree to disagree.

When it’s a friendly the English clubs by in large are OK. When it comes to competitive matches it would be carnage.

It doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest to join their league.

    Your prerogative.

But your reasons for doing so have nothing to do with fears of carnage.

It’s because of what you feel about England and the English.
