Schisms, corralling the message

926

Aberdeen are on the kind of downward spiral which is difficult to arrest, but there’s more going on that we know about publicly. I would be amazed if their recent run, four defeats and a draw in five games, after winning their opening eight league games, was all to do with matters on the park.

They are a team who look to be in schism. If so, Celtic Park is the perfect venue to pull together. You raise your game at Celtic Park in a way which isn’t likely in Dingwall. Whatever differences that exist will be set aside, we’ll need to be on our game to win.

Craig Whyte’s bankrupt, unable to pay Ticketus the £18m damages they won against him. Craig’s financial strength was plain for all to see, as he made regular trips north on Easyjet in his worn-out attire, owning up to the fact he couldn’t fund the bank repayment, until a clever knight put him onto Ticketus.

Charles Green was equally transparent. Relying on shares-for-backing deals with pliable ‘legends’. Now we have Dave King, overwhelmingly dependent on PR and a compliant media, while the rest of the world is sticking dates in the calendar. The most common question I’m asked these days is “When’s it going to happen?” It’s no longer a matter of “if” it’s going to happen.

The re-writing of history, evident today, will be rolled out again in due course. “We told you about him”, they will scream. Aye, sure you did. You also made it all possible, just as you did with Green, Whyte and Murray.

The trade in favours, exclusive stories, substances and team-handed loose-limbed 60 minute acquaintances, deployed to sustain the project and corral the message over the years is legend. Truly legend. Fraternity on this level takes more than money, a business lunch or a game of golf.  If that’s how you think the game is played, these guys will leave you standing.  Shed tears for none of them.

The books which will be written when the guilty are dead will sell millions.

Ghirls for Good

Ladies, sign up for this year’s Celtic Foundation Ghirls for Good Christmas lunch.  I’m told it’s a riot and one of the best days of the year at Celtic Park……  More here.

If you are reading this later, when we were speaking during the week and talking about Lennoxtown, I was saying that my pals wee nephew was obviously there but we both thought it better he went elsewhere, met the wee mans Grandad at the bookies, he chucked Celtic on Monday and has signed with Dundee Utd, the main reason he told his Grandad “Celtic won’t let me play with my pals ” (school team) Dundee United said no problem…. By the way he is 10yrs old, they play Celtic next week, his Grandad who is Celtic daft said “wee man go out and show that mob what they are missing”

Although we are on a new road now, imo we still own him a debt of gratitude. His treatment up here remains a blot on our society which we should never forget.

Take a tip mate, please, nothing insults me more than being labelled a Hun, however, that label is attributed.

You might not like the chant, I get that but thousands of supporters at the match today will indulge, it most fecking certainly does not mean they are Huns.

There are some songs I don’t like and question there relevance at the game but Idon’t think they are Hunnish in any shape or form.

Maybe I’m being overly touchy, maybe not, apologies if so. But unless Celtic supporters are being bigots, racist etc the term Hun, shouldn’t be aimed imho, it’s THE insult.

    Enjoy the game.

  12. Today is a game I want to win and expect to win.

But it is not a “must win” game, by any stretch.

If the worst happened and we lost, we would still be top of the table, ahead of our opponents, an outfit that some posters were telling us were going to take our league title from us just one month ago.

Now, it would be great for confidence, going into the Molde game to produce a good win and performance. But, if we dropped points, it could be used as an extra motivation, if such were needed, for that game too.

The biggest indicator for me is who is going to provide the drive and leadership in the absence of Broonie and I think we have several candidates. In the Hearts game, Commons and Lustig set an early tone. They were joined by Stuart Armstrong being industrious, Griff showing sublime skill, Bitton being calm and composed and leading by example, and, finally, by Tom Rogic’s drive to establish himself in this team.

To this group, I would expect to see Boyata (who is a genuine leader), Simunovic (gifted and confident) and Johansen (ex POTY and as industrious as Broonie) step up to the mark.

We will face a harder game from Molde than from the Dons but only the Molde game is a must-win.

    Let’s do this!

  23. mullet and co 2 on

2 stories in the Ronny retort.

1 as usual he has been misquoted and there are specifics twisted to suit an agenda. Also, sensationalised. Example is the Scotsman saying Deila said Rangers were nothing. Their own article goes on to confirm that he said Rangers were going from nothing to somewhere. The Scotsman could easily have said that Deila thinks Rangers are going somewhere. It’s nefarious stuff but we are used to that.

Celtic should be better at managing the media and creating situations on our terms to retort before they wheel out McLeish or take advantage of an honest Packie Bonner comment who happens to be promoting a book.

    2. Deila tells a greater story that is being ignored in favour of the greater short term headlines. Why did none of the journalists ask him to explain what cultural change was happening and then ask why this had to mean losing in Europe. What Ronny says gives me an insight to how the club feel about his performances and our place. I think it’s great that we want to change the culture and do something to build the club but I don’t believe that has to involve playing your full backs 30 yards up the park from where they should be or sticking with players who can’t perform.

If Desmond and Lawwell accept the performances in Europe they are seriously underestimating the possibilities for our club and allowing Rangers back in. The club has won a lot of trophies domestically but we have gone backwards in Europe.

Ronny needs to explain why the style we are adopting in Europe is going to equate to long term gain. Europe for me is an acceptable benchmark. An open kamikaze style will see the fans turn on Deila even more and the press will leach on it. Fix it Ronny.

    Ps

I expect us to thrash Aberdeen today.

  24. SFTB

Not a “must win”, agreed, but it would be an opportunity missed, were we to lose, to deal a hammer blow to their already very fragile confidence, and to leave them with ‘must win’ games from here on in.

Which would only add to the severe pressure they’re already under.

  26. MARRAKESH

There is a flaw in the Scottish race that manifests itself in a refusal to recognise any racism or bigotry in themselves.

Here’s to us wha’s like us indeed.

The match delegate who reported Rangers for the Billy Boys initially had his complaint rejected because the complaints committee found there was a “peculiar acceptance” of this anti-Irish/RC bigotry in Scotland. All the great and good said there wasn’t so delegate appealed and Rangers were fined.

Now MSM/society pretend they don’t hear it.

Not a great admirer of RD, but the way some so called ‘ex-Celts’ have behaved in the public sphere, through their vitriolic commentary of RD’s media conference, is shameful.
