Sevco and Gang of 10

895

We are three days away from Rangers creditors’ vote on the proposed CVA and my best sources remain strongly of the view that HMRC will vote against.  As a result, on Thursday, the process to liquidate Rangers will commence and Charles Green’s company, Sevco 5088, will attempt to purchase the assets of the business.

One of the first acts of Sevco 5088 will be to apply for membership to the Scottish Premier League.  They will offer the league an opportunity to retain considerable revenue streams which would be lost to the league following the liquidation of the former football club, Rangers.

Attitudes hardened towards a Newco proposition since Mr Green came onto the scene, specifically since Rangers raised an action against the Scottish FA at the Court of Session, but sentiment in football is fickle.  We should ignore all public comments on the subject of Newco and concentrate our minds on the SPL vote, which will take place next week.

Two months ago the Gang of 10 clubs thought they were in an ‘Arab Spring’ moment when they met to discuss how they would use Rangers demise as an opportunity to re-engineer the league.  Charles Green is aware of their feelings on this matter and is likely to use this knowledge to inform his offer to the league.

Expect Green to offer to support a change in voting rights if the SPL allow Servco a franchise in the SPL.  This offer would allow the Gang of 10 to not only retain much of their existing income streams, they would actually be able to bring in additional income.  Servco FC would benefit from being the first company to be able to buy a place in the top division of Scottish football.  The only loser from this scenario would be Celtic.

The existing voting rights protect Celtic from several hazards.  The most important two are the rights of home teams to retain match ticket revenue and a limit to the number of home games shown live on TV for any club.

You will hear lots of comment from the Gang of 10 that they are not interested in splitting home gate money but none of them have agreed to exclude this matter from the change in voting rights.  More Celtic home games on TV would be welcomed by armchair fans that live abroad but would see season ticket holders suffer as kick off times are moved to accommodate TV scheduling.  Neither of these matters will be addressed at this month’s SPL meeting but, if the voting rights change, you can expect to read about them soon.

If the application from Sevco is rejected, we enter a new world, where SPL voting rights will inevitably change and Scottish clubs will have to learn to cooperate with each other on a constructive basis.  As Celtic fans, we will embrace that challenge, but you can be sure that a slice of your season ticket money is being offered right now by people who have nothing whatsoever to do with Celtic.

  1. According to reports Celtic head the race for Wigan Athletic striker Hugo Rodallega.

Rodallega is out of contract at the DW Stadium this summer and is expected to leave the club.

It is understood that Stoke City and Everton are interested in the Colombian.

However, it seems Rodallega is being strongly tipped for a move to Scottish giants Celtic.

Scottish champions Celtic are showing an interest in Magnus Okuonghae, Sky Sports understands.

A host of clubs are tracking the 26-year-old – who is set to leave League One Colchester United after his contract expired.

But a number of Championship clubs are also keen on securing his signature.

Sky Sports understands the likes of Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Charlton, Derby, Millwall and newly promoted Sheffield Wednesday are all keen.

Former Dagenham & Redbridge defender Okounghae has also been offered a new contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

“We have been contacted by a few clubs and Magnus will be considering his options over the coming weeks,” his agent Leon Callendar of Straight Ace Management told Sky Sports.

The danger, in my opinion, is not offering an alternative to whatever Green and the Frankenhuns promise as part of a deal to get them back in.

If we don’t do anything, the SPL will get what they want through Green – we lose out and football is dead in this country.

If we do offer something as a carrot to the other SPL, be that the distribution of money or voting rights, we’ll still lose out (on our own terms!) but there will still be a competitive footballing league in Scotland and not some WWE/Boxing franchise.

There’s another alternative, that the SPL 10 don’t let the huns enter and cast them asunder to the SFL – Dunfermline or whoever come up and the 11-1 voting system becomes their biggest weapon against us.

I don’t really support the idea of halving gate money but it might not actually work out in the favour of the Gang of 10. There would have to be reciprocal agreements between each club fixing the cost of ticket, similar to away ticket pricing at the moment (or even season tickets, which might see our prices fall!). They’d get minimal amounts for their fans coming to Parkhead and would have to split what they get when we come visiting.

Much like the Scottish Independence debate, we need some sensible debate and honest analysis in the MSM. Well we get it? Not a chance – on etiher matter!

I think that sounds perfectly reasonable, I think the £600 (over £30 per game) we pay is way to much for the product on display. Buying a season book for CP must be one of the few places in the world where you get charged more for buying in bulk for 19 products than you do if you bought 19 individual products.

How’s everyone doing in their Euro predictions?

I got the goal margin for the Ireland game right. I could see why Mcgeady was subbed, despite a great delivery for the goal – didn’t think he was that bad, but reckon he hardly got a touch of the ball, and there’s no point loitering in the final third (sometimes disguised as toilet roll) if your teammates are enduring a torrid time 50 yards away. Duff worked more for the team. I was surprised to see Doyle taken off – thought he was giving their defenders headaches. The main qualitative difference between Ireland and Scotland right now lies in their coaching.

Tonight: 2-0 to France, 1-0 Ukraine.

When another Scottish club invests more than its entire value to build a decent-sized family stadium-as Celtic did under Fergus-I might have some sympathy for them.

It’s astoudnign to me that, even now, with Rangers in administration for 4 months, in debt to the tune of up to £134m and with apparently only £5.5m of assets belonging to the club (these figures accoring to their own adminstrators!), yet we are STILL not sure they’ll go to the wall!

Just look at the “math” – net liabilities of up to £128m – about three and a half times their turnover, back when they published accounts. There cannot be any other answer than liquidation.

  20. Paul 67 – I’m puzzled by your article today, surely then the best protection for Celtics voting rights are that Rangers get a CVA in place and effectively remain as part of the SPL ??

1# Assume they get the get the CVA = Net Result NO Newco to vote on and both Celtic and them retain the veto (Downside is they live on !!) ?

2# Assume they do NOT get a CVA therefore form a Newco or totally Liquidate (Unlikely) : Sevco 5088 buy the rights enter the SPL with the bargaining chip that they change the voting rights ( which harms them also) = Net Result Celtic Lose the veto on voting rights

So do we want them to get the CVA……..I can’t see any WIN WIN for us only Lose Lose either way ?????

  25. So funny and so wrong…

A pensioner needed help from firefighters to remove a sex aid that had become stuck on a delicate area of his body.

The 69-year-old battled for 36 hours to free himself from the ring-shaped object and eventually went to Fairfield Hospital in Bury to seek assistance.

Firefighters had to take extra care when freeing the pensioner (Thinkstock) He was transferred to North Manchester General Hospital, but surgeons there were also unable to work out what to do.

At that point, doctors decided to call in the fire brigade, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A crew from the Blackley station attended and, after carefully assessing the situation, concluded it would be possible to remove the sex aid using a precision cutting tool.

The pensioner had to sign a form confirming he was aware of the dangers associated with such a delicate operation before he was taken to theatre.

Fire officers originally intended to use a four-inch angle grinder for the procedure, but eventually opted for an air cut-off tool.

After an hour of intricate manoeuvres, the pensioner was finally freed. He spent the night in hospital, but as he had suffered little more than acute embarrassment, was allowed home the following morning.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Our crews were professional and adapted to the circumstances they were faced with. We wish the man involved a speedy recovery.’

It is believed the firefighters who took part in the unusual rescue mission have been offered counselling
