SFA-Ogilvie statement of inaction while SPL split looms

687

SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, today issued a statement through the SFA website amid a growing clamour for action over the on-going controversy over the alleged improper registration of players at Rangers during the time he was company/general secretary and director.

It will be an enormous disappointment to the BBC journalist who gave him solid backing only yesterday, to hear the president admit that he benefited from the now-infamous Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme, however, this will not be news to any of you.  Without wanting to be cynical, this feels like we are being fed a completely irrelevant headline while the real matter at hand was yet again not addressed.  Perhaps we should be grateful the gratuitous but irrelevant headline didn’t involve the Krankies.

Ogilvie completely refused to acknowledge or address the question of improper registration of players, instead referring to an incomplete list of his duties at Rangers.

The SPL split will happen in 25 days at which point fixtures will be arranged for the top and bottom six in the league.  This issue has to be investigated, reported and perhaps appealed all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, before then.  Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and St Mirren are currently battling for seventh place, if it was found that Rangers played improperly registered players this season, they could stand to lose enough points to demote them to the bottom half of the table.

The SFA cannot continue to sleep on the job.  While Ogilvie’s position as president is important, he is a sideshow to enabling Scottish football to finish the season on time.

The SFA, the SPL, the game itself is in enormous crisis. Michel Platini, where are you? How bad does it need to get before you get involved?

Is the technicality due to the fact that Craig Whyte appointed them but as he is no longer considered owner (someone please qualify that for me how this can happen as he owns 85% of the shares) that they need to get the court to either put them back into administration with Craig Whyte in situ or remove him …. and if they did remove him …. who replaces him ?

I think the court might chew on D&P backside for a while

  2. If RFCiA revert to TFOD for a while, it would be great to see MBB walking back into Poundland until Admin Day 2.

Wonder how the MSM would spin that one?

  3. If they’re not in administration for a technicality – any idea what the technicality is?

One of their creditors (HMRC) asked for administration yet somehow either Rangers, D&P or the court have messed it up?

What will these superstars feel having reluctantly taken a 75% pay cut to find that actually, they’re not in administration’

Is that why they tried to register Cousin, because they had rigged it to not really be in administration?

So many Qs. have to go out for a couple of hours so will catch up later. Hope there are some answers by then.

  4. Anyone else notice that Ogilvie, unlike Murray, doesn’t pass any comment on the legality of EBT’s? To me that statement is the biggest “it wisnae me” you could get!

Often what’s left unsaid is more important than whats said!

Though seriously, just how corrupt does Scottish football look at the moment?

We need UEFA to step in, and fast.

  5. celticrollercoaster says In Neil we trust on

CO says “I ceased being Company Secretary in 2002 and became General Secretary responsible for football strategy, in effect becoming the main point of contact between the club and the respective league and governing bodies.”

CO doesn’t say ” I however continued to be a company director until 30/11/2005, and as such had a number of fidicuary and statutory duties, whilst I was a member of the executive board, but my EBT was ok boys, as I was not a player, and I turned a wee blind eye to the others as we r the peepil…”

    Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken,

I want one for my tea.

I haven’t had an egg since Easter,

And now it’s half past three.

    So, chick, chick, chick, chicken,

Lay a little egg for me.

  7. Awe_Naw – We may well be barking at the wrong guy but his actions up till now leave him wide open. In fact to me that statement today read like he knows everything being spoken about is true and there are issues regarding player registration. Serious issues.

A pre-emptive “it wisnae me it wiz a bigger boy”

  8. Problem with their administration is that the directors of Rangers didn’t inform the Financial Services Authority (FSA) before going into administration as they should have. D&P have now notified the FSA and have applied to Court of Session to get their appointment as administrators re-ratified on Monday 19th March.

  9. Its begining to look like every man for himself with the old rankers board, wont be long before one of them breaks cover and the blame game starts.

  10. What’s this about them not being in administration? Have I missed something?

May have already been answered so prior sorries from me – Can I have e-mail details for UEFA?

  12. The best bit of CO’s statement is:

“As confirmed by Sir David Murray today, it was never my role to negotiate contracts during my time at Rangers.”

He was clearly so desparate to deny something that he had to plump for negotiating player contracts, something that is completely tangential to the discussion at hand.

Campbell, when you were “the main point of contact between the club and the respective league and governing bodies” were all payments made to players of the club declared to the respective league and governing bodies as per the rules with which we are now all intimately acquainted?

If Rangers aren’t in administration and I was HMRC I’d be requesting a winding up order right about now.

fantastic delaying tactics ….. to ensure that the hun is still alive at the time of the FFT announcement ?

Cant imagine HMRC complaining too much

    Hail Hail

  14. Mort – how did you answer my question before I asked it? Thanks all the same. Interesting.

Is this the error that Paul67 alluded to a week or two back when he said something about them already being at fault with the process? I wonder.

And do they get their points back for the weekend?

  15. Imagine you were a Policeman.

You then get promoted to be in charge of a whole department. Your new department is tasked with investigating a crime. The crime was committed on your old patch, by your old team. Not only that you then admit that you too participated in the alleged crime.

You can just stay in charge of your new team as long as you don’t get involved in the major investigation going on. That’s grand.

    It is on Planet SFA

  16. Paul I think you went over the top bringing the Krankies (Scottish Entertainment Gods) good name into this torrid affair. Surely you do not thing they where part of the EBT club as well?

They can get themselves to F if they think I am changing my Valentine Administration Day celebrations just for them …… unless the court sits in session on Saturday

The fact that HMRC acquiesed to the request for D&P to be administrators suggests to me that they don’t really care what happens to Rangers in the meantime. They know there is no saving the company and better for someone else to pull the trigger.

To the poster who suggested that they were halfwits, that is incredibly unkind to halfwits.

Have the EBT payments to players not ceased as of last year (be good to have this confirmed)? I seem to remember when Papac signed his new one year deal. That removed the last “EBT” player.

Did the issue of player registrations for 20011/12 not relate to the question of whether the players who signed new contracts under Whyte, signed to Group not FC? The Nimmo inquiry should have revealed this, surely?

  20. row z \o/ (O) whatever part of my club is dependent on rangers I am willing to lose! on

So that’s a straight 2 fingers to anyone daring to ask questions and a serious closing of ranks implicating others in the stand i.e. Regan and the full SFA Board.

Time for Regan to decide if he wants to go down with the ship or whether he wants to front the mutiny. It’s his Fletcher Christian moment I think.
