Smell of blood on the brown brogues

383

Read this morning that the Tynecastle pitch is 19-years-old.  Celtic’s is less than three-years-old.  Hearts have responded quickly to criticisms of their surface and will have a new pitch laid before the end of the month.  Having a top quality football pitch in Scotland isn’t a cheap business.  Celtic pay £500k per year in running, maintenance and depreciation costs for the sunlamp system which keeps the grass as alive as it is.  On top of that there’s costs for ground staff, under-soil heating and various other equipment.

And more at Lennoxtown, of course.  You wouldn’t believe the costs involved in running a football operation at a club with facilities the size of Celtic Park and Lennoxtown.  Modern football in massive stadiums isn’t something you can carry out on a shoestring.

On the Newco debacle at Dundee yesterday; this wouldn’t have happened under Mike Ashely’s watch, whether you regard that particular scenario as malevolent or benevolent. With an active link to Ashley, Newco would benefit from professionalism in the boardroom and better players in the dressing room.  What we’re now enjoying is 100% the work of Dave King, who during his electioneering phase promised so much.

Instead of an Ashley appointed CEO, manager and selection of players from Newcastle’s secondary squad, they’ve sacked their manager and given the guy who put the cones out for the youth team responsibility to finish above Aberdeen. The upshot of this is that the players they need to dig them out of this mess – like Kenny Miller who is not being offered a new contract – know that the decks will be cleared for the new manager.  This is a perfect way to demotivate a squad.

If Celtic (or Aberdeen) win the Scottish Cup, the top four Premiership places qualify for Europe, which would be reassuring for Newco, were it not for St Johnstone, who sit six points adrift from them. But unlike Newco, St Johnstone only have to play Celtic one more time this season.  Saints manager Tommy Wright will smell blood on the brown brogues.  Don’t bet against him.

The message below is from Vmham, who is one of the brave souls cycling from Celtic Park to Lisbon in May.  Please get involved with this magnificent project if you can, there is more information on the MyDonate page linked below:

“CQN’ers, as you may know I’ve been training most of last year for an epic cycle from Celtic park  to Estadio Nacional in Lisbon 25th May 2017.  We wanted to mark the 50th anniversary of the “first British team” to win the European cup, Celtic done it in style with a team whose 11 players were born within a 30ml radius of Celtic park.  As a CQN’er I was involved in the bringing home Kano campaign way back and have contributed financially to support CQN’s website and still do. If anyone would like to sponsor me you can by clicking here on MyDonate page, thanks folks and see you at the party in Lisbon :>)

I believe it is with immediate effect if the Admin occurs during the course of a season. If it occurs during the close season then the club begins the next season with the points deduction already made.

  5. As I said earlier the bun’s have had a hybrid pitch for years, found this out accidentally when looking for articles about synthetic surfaces, and it matters not a jot of you’ve got shiite running around on it.

  6. Afternoon all.

Was visiting my Dad this morning and, as usual, we ended up talking Celtic. I was showing him bits of CQN and he saw the book about the 67 season and, of course, the photo of some of the Lions. So, he starts waxing lyrical about his favourites, Bobby Murdoch and wee Bertie and then going on to talk of the likes of Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox. Then he says “And the Swede”. So, I says “Henrik Larsson” and he replies “Bow your head”. So, maybe he has a new hero.

He was also waxing not so lyrically about the chancer who kicked Kieran Tierney. If I repeated him verbatim, I’d probably be banned on CQN. Suffice to say, he reckoned “hingin is too good for him”, to coin a phrase.

On another matter……the police presence at the game on Saturday.

A shop in the West of Glasgow had an incident whereby a shoplifter was chased and detained back at the shop. The polis were called and refused to come out as “it was not a priority”. The individual had to be released sans spirits.

Same shop has had 2 cash grabs now and have STILL not attended the 2nd one as it is (you guessed it) “not a priority”.

So can plod tell me how harrassing Celtic fans who have a good record of conduct takes precedence over the incidents mentioned above.

    It’s criminal!

    Paul,

I wonder if they might get in a Davies/McLeish type until the end of the season? Small weekly wage with big bonus for European qualification.

Fund bonus from ST sales – “back in Europe” (don’t mention it will be one round only – dumped out by Lokomotiv Middle of Nowhere)!

The Desso Grassmaster will most likely cost Celtic somewhere between £1M and £2M to install during the close season but should be good for at least 10 seasons and the maintenance will (apparently) be easier. It should give a pretty standard playing surface all year round.

As far as the Comedy Club goes, they don’t, IMHO, really fancy McLeish as an interim manager. He embarrassingly touted himself for the gig during their televised 2nd rate scrape-by of Morton last Sunday but no announcement yet.

Either that or he has spoken to them, seen how much of a mess it is, been told the salary and decided that even a RRM like him wouldn’t touch it!

Aye, but Dave King is the real Rangers man that’s why the real real Rangers men backed him over our Michael he who threatened to take them away.

  18. Who decides the policing priorities for Police Scotland ?

There seems to be unlimited funding for chasing after those who they deem to contravene the OB act.

Which asks the question :- Policing for the people, or policing for their political masters.

On another note : I see the GB have already raised a substantial amount of money for a full stadium display to commemorate the Lisbon Lions 50th anniversary.

Totally non controversial, I hope the funding is as successful as the last crowd fund. I would also hope that Celtic would maybe help out ; Either financially or whatever. Because I’m absolutely sure that the club will cash in on what will hopefully be the Tifo to beat all Tifo’s.

Just read the news article re the Q&A with the SLO vis a vis the proposed parking restrictions around the east end of Glasgow, or should I say the area around Celtic Park. I am not convinced Celtic are taking these proposals seriously. Obviously disabled supporters would be the most affected, but so would many others from the young, those with young children, the older and the less abled. GCC is presently conducting a survey via their website, except when you add any additional comments which are critical of the proposals, they are classed as “invalid comment”. So much for any public debate. Better traffic management would help, but Glasgow Police are completely useless in that regard. What is being proposed is a scheme (sp) designed to penalise Celtic and other supporters. It is all about raising money no more no less. Maybe JPT should not restrict his concern to just those less abled drivers but speak up on behalf to the many who contribute regularly to the wider Glasgow economy. Visitors should be encouraged, not deterred, and most certainly not fleeced by GCC
