So stressed Juninho & film productions get an airing

689

Interesting angle in today’s Telegraph: “Celtic are the only club in Scotland, apart from Rangers, who are known to have used an EBT contract”. Why are we part of this conversation?  Despite the millions of words written on the subject of EBTs over the last six years, there appears to be a curious misunderstanding about them.

Juninho arrived at Celtic with an EBT from earlier in his career. Celtic funded this Trust around the time the player left the club, informed HMRC about the transaction, and paid the tax due. No side letters (contracts) were issued with regard to this Trust. No information was hidden from HMRC or football authorities.

The conversation went a bit like this:

Celtic: Hi HMRC, Celtic here.  We’ve paid Mr Juninho’s EBT £Xk.  What is our tax position?
HMRC: £Yk tax is due on that payment.
Celtic: Thanks.  Will pay today.

EBTs are in themselves not illegal, nor even immoral. They were introduced to allow employers a framework to give loans to employees.  Many employers, formally or informally, give loans to employees to cover everything from crises to Christmas expenses.  Or migration expenses, which is occasionally the case in football.  That some use EBTs to attempt to put income beyond the reach of taxation is a reflection on those clubs, not others who openly declare EBT payments to HMRC and pay any corresponding tax.

The newspaper goes on to offer a defence against HMRC, almost as though it was dictated from David Murray himself: “it is believed that one argument against the supposition that Rangers secured players by means of EVTs (sic.) is that a range of variable inducements were in operation at that time and not only at Ibrox.

“Other avoidance schemes involved investment in such vehicles as film production companies and forestry development.”

Yes, a range of other inducements were available – legal ones.  Other people legally used other schemes.  It’s clarity of thought like this being a defence of Rangers that which put them into such a mess to begin with.

Delighted to read Rangers Tax Case back with such insight last night.  Catch up with him here if you missed it.

It appears your politic just keeps getting the better of you, over tha last 3 years tony has said the same many times and never once kept that promise.

It’s move on until he decides to start it all up again as he always does.

You simply encourage that behaviour by supporting a bully and allowing him to claim he is being persecuted, you make the argument that people maintain silence about abuse and that anyone reporting abuse is not acceptable, I was offered the chance to come and meet tony to sort out our differences face to face in his boozers the brazen not long after Res12 was up and running. He says he didn’t maybe he just doesn’t remember cause he was throwing out invitations left right and centre but I remember it very clearly, and I’m sure he does too regardless of his denials. As I said your motives here need to be seriously questioned, and I doubt very much I’m the only one who see’s that.

I’m a rangers man through and through. My club have won more titles than yours and will be back winning them in 2 years. Mr king and Mr Ashley will kiss and make up and fund European success. Your team are rubbish . Your board have no ambition. Your stadium is a dump . Your manager is clueless.

I am not in discussion with Tony I am in discussion with you about your contribution to the lack of harmony trying to vilify people using the rules. I have not addressed him I’m ignoring him, I have nothing to say to him.

  15. The politiciziation of Celtic football club’s support is very worrying.

Those who shout the loudest, post the most on social media, although very much the minority, will gravely hurt our club, indeed could even kill it.

As the RTC so elequently puts it, Rangers died by their own hand, murdered by SDM, his sycophantic bankers and press place-men and the rah bag of whimps and pimps on the board.

This was killing fashioned and directed from the top – in our case we could be destroyed from the bottom

    up.

This blog highlights the pernicious nature of the settled view of people like the Trust and their fellow travellers, the living wage, foodbanks, the SNP, Syria, Peter Lawwell’s salary, board members political affiliation, I could go on; the constant noise is far and away now drowning out any Celtic subjects.

These people are, like their SNP masters, are a one-issue rabble – their one-issue is constant upheaval, keep the pot boiling with political issues of their own choosing; in their heads no one else has a valid point of view.

If these people get their way, they will kill Celtic on their political altar and be proud to so do.

I know a good number of supporters are sick to the back teeth and may not renew season tickets.

Anyone who is a bit bored might want to scan this (From the BBC site) and see if they can find a shred of evidence to support the opening statement:

“Fulham have identified Rangers boss Mark Warburton as a serious candidate to succeed Kit Symons as manager.

BBC Sport understands that Warburton will now be actively pursued by the English Championship side, who sacked Symons last month.

Warburton refused to be drawn on the speculation, saying: “We’re into a long-term project at Rangers and we’re in a good place right now.”

There has been no official contact between Fulham and Rangers yet.

Fulham have turned their attention to Warburton after missing out on Reading manager Steve Clarke and Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett.

Speaking after his side’s 4-0 Scottish Championship victory over Dumbarton, Warburton said his only focus was continuing his work at Ibrox.

“I respectfully always answer questions,” he told BBC Scotland.

“I’m manager of Rangers and it’s disrespectful to Rangers and to a club like Fulham, who conduct their business in the right manner.

“I’m sure they’ll be disappointed in these rumours.”

BBC Sport also understands that there is recognition from Fulham that they may have to wait until the January transfer window before the situation is resolved.

Warburton and the Rangers chairman Dave King have spoken about the possibility of adding to the club’s squad in January.

The Englishman only arrived at Ibrox during the summer, and may feel that his ambitions can be fulfilled at the club, with promotion a necessity in this campaign.

Fulham are 13th in the Championship, with former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant in caretaker charge of the first team. He wants to retain his role with the development squad.

The search for a new manager is being conducted by Mike Rigg, the chief football officer, who was previously technical director at Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City.

Warburton, who spent 18 months in charge of Brentford, is from London and members of his family live in the city.”

Me? I am off out on the bike and hoping the balmy conditions have rid the area of sneaky ice.

    Cheerio for now,

    Hail Hail Joe.

I’m wary of any coalition with, shareholders and Celtic officials.

The shareholders may be well meaning and, innocent and only want the best possible outcome for truth, justice, fair play for Scottish Football and, Celtic in particular.

Any Celtic involvement will have to be sanctioned by a, hun-establishment-kowtowing-hierarchy and, that….for me, is where it will fall down….sadly.
