Space indicates why Moussa scores so many against Newco

444

I read Kenny Shiels’ comments that Newco’s Barrie McKay was better than James Forrest and Patrick Roberts, making me curious about McKay’s contract. The midfielder’s deal expires in 18 months, but when announcing his contract signing, Newco were unusually frank about their newco status:

“The winger has played a total of 78 times for Rangers, after making his first start in July 2012 against Brechin City at the age of 17.”

Before going onto explain in the same article that “The pacey winger made his Rangers debut against St Johnstone in the Light Blues’ last game of the 2011/12 season.”

If you count, that’s two debuts.  For two Rangers.

McKay was clearly Newco’s best player against Celtic, causing problems from the first minute until their challenge ran out of steam. Tying him into a long-term contract will be a priority (or selling him will be).

Yesterday I noted how Kiernan yelled abuse towards Tavernier at Scott Sinclair’s goal at Ibrox, but as this still shows, the entire Newco defence have questions to answer.
2017-01-03-1

There are five defender goal-side of Stuart Armstrong (not counting one on the wing). As the world was about to find out, Sinclair was unattended, but look at the space Moussa Dembele is in! The two central defenders, who will soon claim to be covering him, are five yards away from him. The defensive line isn’t so much a line as a horseshoe.

This is what Moussa scores so many goals against that lot, he doesn’t get this kind of space against any other opponent.

If the MSM are bumming up McKay it’ll be because he’s for the off and they are trying to bump up the price. Same happened with MacLeod and also some Rangers players – Hutton, Fleck, Wilson.

Not many “friendly” Sevco-minded managers on the go down south – McCall is the only one that springs to mind.

  2. I was about to post that January is a downer but then I remembered my resolve to be more positive this year.

So what is good about January? The nights are ‘drawin oot’. There might be the odd ‘snow day’ off work! I made it to 2017!

    What else?

    It’s not 12th of July.

It’s nearly February and The Walking Dead returns on 12th.

Celtic play 3 home games in January on the trot.

At this stage in his career, I don’t think many, if any, top English teams would accommodate a player like Patrick Roberts.

Like Scott Sinclair, Patrick is an out and out attacking player, with limited defensive skills….an old fashioned winger, a luxury player.

Players like that don’t feature in the modern game.

However, Celtic traditionally savour exciting, productive wing play and our style can absorb any perceived deficiencies.

Therefore, my advice to young Mr. Roberts would be to instruct his agent to convert his loan move into a permanent one and make everybody, especially his mother, happy.

Sheiks is a blow hard…..mouthpiece who rates himself very highly.

    I’m going to defend 3 Huns here….

McKay, Miller and Foderingham all earned their right to express their opinions after Saturday game. Each of them giving 100% of what they have and matching the oppositions efforts. So fair play to Barry McKay for giving his view. I don’t agree with it but then again I wasn’t on the pitch matching players in a superior team. Nor could I have done what he did. Miller must also be given credit. At 37 he exposed our defence. Foderingham played out of his skin and saved his team from a potentially embarrassing result.

I can live with these guys having their say.

  6. The Monkey Media site have been calling for “Bazza”to be hunted all season. When I say hunted,I am sure you know that is not the language they were using. One good game from half a season.Kenny Shiels,a bigoted Norn Ireland Hun.

  7. I can live with them having their say also.On a rainy day here in Turkey it fair cheers me up ,pissing myself laughing at their stupidity.

“The 5-1 score from the first game could have been reversed” Barry Mc Kay.

    Could it,Aye.

  8. TTT- i would try and sign Roberts, i dont think Man City would sell him to an EPL Club, in case he came back to haunt them, like he done a few weeks ago.

Mr Shiels – what a guy.

Perhaps Kenny is mindful of the old Hollywood maxim that actors are forgotten about when they go to the bathroom.

Perhaps Kenny realises his Derry City are as far away from Dundalk as Sevco are to Celtic.

Perhaps Kenny thinks a vacancy might arise in the Inverness area very soon.

Perhaps Kenny believes the best way to remind people he is still alive is to say something nice about Sevco – its a slam dunk to get published.

Ach … and I promised not to be so cynical in 2017.

    Hail hail

  10. He’s right, Turkeybhoy!

If you reverse it, it’s 1-5, and Sevco was the home team.

Plus of course, no point in having slave ships if you don’t have slave buyers. The plantations were disproportionately Scottish-owned.

*lots of West Indians out there with Scottish surnames.

  12. From ‘Kulchural Scotland’ website:

Hogmany is to be known as Barrie McKay Day from 2017 onwards, to commemorate the diminutive mouthy fanny’s two mazy runs against Celtic on 31/12/16.

Plans also include a George Square tribute/memorial with the Christmas Nativity scene replaced by an animatronic display recreating McKay’s world-famous early dribble in which he evades Lustig and Sviatchenko before guilefully firing a cross beyond onrushing Huns, who will depicted by tailors’ dummies on sticks.

Loinel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo and Roland Rat – and probably John Noakes from Blue Peter – are expected to jet in using Dave King’s Jet 2 ‘private’ tickets bought online with a dodgy credit card, and attend a Barrie McKay training day at Auchenhowie, beamed worldwide by Sky Sports.

Barrie will recreate his 2 incredible dribbles for a watching audience of global millions before holding a Q & A session in which he reminisces about his Nostradamus-like prophecies from season 16/17 in which he declared no ‘gap’ between the great Glasgow rivals and the likelihood of giving Celtic a ‘doing’ if his recent experiments into time/space event augmentation come to fruition and he pinpoints the multiverse dimension in which all unlikliest probabilities coincide.

Barry will then be auctioned on ebay to the highest bidder. Early reports believe there is great interest from the Chinese; the one on Byre’s road who are believed to be preparing an offer of £16.90 plus all the leftover egg fried rice (with noodles negotiable) per night for a speedy, tricky delivery driver to work alternate weekends.

    All hail Barrie.

  14. I think Man City will get rid of Guardiola as results are not going his way and he will not change his style of play to try a different approach, he is getting more agitated in his press conferences as is Klopp with the constant negative questions, in Klopp’s case about the goalkeeping referees, and, with Man City poor discipline results , one thing for sure Guardiola does not look a happy bunny, this might change the situation with Patrick, I would make them an offer at what BR thinks is an acceptable price, hopefully he would come for regular football chance to win things and play in Europe, he now knows the club, a big issue may be the wages but I hope the things I mentioned would sway him our way. We will see.

Barry McKay is the new Lewis MacLeod ( mind him) he who was sold to keep the lights on? 14 appearances for Brentford in two years.

*Bought carrying an injury, which he mysteriously picked up in his last game, by eat the breid, molly weir and the scout that was chased from Liverpool.

  16. Not fan of Sheils but he was the only manager in Scotland to put his head above the parapet when Lenny was getting it tough big time.

Also has spent most of his working week for over a year now in the Brandywell. As big an Irish Republican area as you are likely to find anywhere.

Not the usual habits of a bigot. But what would I know

  17. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

The MSM will do ANYTHING to group “Rangers” with Celtic. This non-story being a good example. See also the Clumpany’s “old firm kitchens” blog.

Sevco are a complete dead duck. Trying to hitch themselves to Celtic is them trying to appear relevant. The “Level” of help from the MSM is guaranteed of course!

  20. Dessybhoy- Roberts might sign a new contract at Man City, and come back on loan, but only if BR thinks it’s a good deal for us.I think the alleged £12 mil is full of add ons, offer £4 mil and see how it goes…

  21. Dessybhoy

if that’s the case the it’s Warburton to Liverpool taking Barry with him and Brendan to Man City taking everyone with him. You read it hear first.

I would buy him at £4m , I think initially he cost Man City 2m with all the add ons getting it up to 12m, if we do buy at £4m we have improved their player they bought for 2m, but even so I think he is worth that fee.

White Hart Lane tomorrow night for Spurs v Chelsea . Me , my Chelsea supporting mate and my Arsenal season ticket , PTFC supporting son. .. £ 30 a ticket for away supporters . I like White Hart Lane . Hope to have a Balti pie at half time

*always had a soft spot for Spurs which goes back tae them having a centre half and captain fae the Renton.

John Ryden who lost his place through injury to Maurice Norman and the chance to make history when they became the 1st club in the 20th century tae win the coveted double and is listed as one of the top 12 Scots to play for them, quite a feat when you consider the likes of Dave Mackay, Bill Brown, John White and Alan Glizean are among that elite.

  24. Rock Tree Bhoy on

At the end of the game perhaps Brendan was putting an arm around McKay and telling him how well he thought he played because he intends making sevco an offer for him when Patrick Roberts goes back to Man City. Stranger Things.

  25. Bada Bing

BR seems extremely happy here, I am sure he is ambitious to bring more succes to the club which he admits he supports rather than just working for them, so I dont think he will go so soon and I hope he stays for a long long time as he is a smart cookie and has really got the place jumping.

I would deny them their existence given the chance MWD. Vanguard Brainless claim they have teachers and lawyers in their ranks. If that is true then they should be stripped of their professional status for supporting such an organisation.

Yes, just like Rangers the Sevco dodgy deals are well dodgy deals.

I think the SMSM coverage of Mackay is desperate deja vu and he’s clearly their new Lionel Nessi.

I know Paul67 writes what he likes, but I hope the locus returns to Celtic and who we should be signing soon?,

This is the first January since CQN began where we really don’t need to buy.

The Champions League is Celtic’s now, we are there permanently and on full merit ligitamately, and the big rival is still well deed, and can only get deeder.

Can’t see Citeh saying “adiós” to Pep just yet.

Great chance of reaching last 8 in the CL, which would leave him 5 games from winning it. Again.

He just won a game yesterday with 10 men for more than half of it, and, as long as they’re top 4, a Champions league semi-final will keep him there.

Like other managers in England, he might be pissed off at players being sent off, albeit deservedly, while a certain club has a defender who made off-the-ground 2 -footed tackles in consecutive matches which did not result in a red card. Now they’ve got another defender feigning serious injury to get an opponent sent -off for what wasn’t even a yellow card offence.

As someone posted, Manure get some amount of decisions in their favour, a legacy of Swallex that Jose is determined to exploit.

disagree we need to have new players bedded in for CL qualifiers.

No doubt the current squad are being improved and better than anything that Scotland has to offer as a challenge but the CL is another few levels above. Getting all smug about running riot in the dross that is Scotland will no cut it with the quality of the CL. Don’t get too carried away.
