STRACHAN CUTS CELTIC’S HAMPDEN ALLOCATION FROM SEVEN TO SIX

GORDON STRACHAN believes his six Celtic players named in yesterday’s squad can help make Scotland invincible when they meet England in the vital World Cup qualifier at Hampden on June 10, but incredibly Callum McGregor has failed to make the squad!
The half-dozen Hoops stars who started the 1-0 victory over Slovenia in March – Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths – will be asked to repeat their club form for their country.
It’s been an incredible campaign by the treble-chasing Parkhead side and Strachan is convinced they will be able to raise themselves one last time against Gareth Southgate’s men.

The international boss said: “There was a concern there might be a dip after the Celtic players won the league, but there wasn’t a dip.
“They have that mentality. They say: ‘I’m enjoying this, I must keep this going, wherever I play, I must win’.
“There are so many clubs who win things early then drop away. We have seen that many times.”My son’s team, Doncaster, won the league with five to go and then had two draws and three defeats after that.

“It is very hard to keep your team going. But they have kept it going, the whole Celtic gang.

“We saw how they played here against Slovenia and we’re hoping they can keep that going.

“Ask any of them if they’re tired just now. Tiredness only seems to creep in when you are getting beat.
“They’ve been sensational. To not make a mistake or have a lapse during the season is incredible.”When I was there, we had lack of concentration a couple of times. So, to do that has been absolutely sensational.”

The ex-Hoops gaffer, of course, could have also added a seventh Celt, Callum McGregor, to his 29-man squad.
He overlooked the in-form midfielder and explained: “We are strong in that area just now.”
