NADIR CIFTCI has vowed to fight for his Celtic future and hopes to play a part in the Brendan Rodgers era which will begin next month when the Celtic squad returns from their holidays.
The striker, bought for £1.5million from Dundee United last summer, was dumped by Ronny Deila on a loan deal to Turkish outfit Eskisehirspor in January.
However, Ciftci, 24, has admitted he is determined to impress new boss Brendan Rodgers and make up for lost time at the Hoops.
He said: “I would never give up on Celtic. I couldn’t do that. Next season is a fresh start for me.
“I have followed everything that has been going on at the club because my heart is still there.
“I read some stories claiming I didn’t want to go back. That is not true. I want to play for Celtic.
“I had different offers when I signed last summer, but I sat down with my agent, Pierre van Hooijdonk, and we decided it was the perfect move.
“It was a challenge for me and I still believe I can succeed if I get the chance next season.
“I am determined to come back and play for Celtic. The new manager will have fresh ideas.
“Leigh Griffiths is the perfect example that things can change very quickly.”
Ciftci, who scored only four goals in 22 appearances, still has three years to run on his contract with the champions.
He added: “Scott Brown and Leigh were really good when I was out of the team and I asked for their advice.
“Leigh told me how had almost left Celtic the previous season, but had stayed strong and kept fighting.
“He got the chance and look at him now. Forty goals and he is unstoppable. He is breaking records with his goals.
“Leigh is an inspiration. I want to be a success like him and, hopefully, that can happen when I return.
“I want to help the club win trophies and succeed in Europe.”
Whether the former Dundee United striker will be given a chance by Brendan Rodgers remains to be seen.
