Thai Tims repel hostile Scottish press

87

The Daily Record gave excellent news coverage of the Thai Tims during their visit to Scotland and Ireland this month but the Good Child Foundation, to give them their formal name, have sought input from the Press Complaints Commission after a columnist jokingly asked if the kids were being used as slave labour to stitch Celtic kit.

The Good Child Foundation does enormously good work in educating and developing children, some of whom have Downs Syndrome.  They do not expose children to illegal work.  Their leader, Paul Lennon, is the epitome of all that is good about our club; compare and contrast to any organisation on the planet you care to mention.

A quick word on idle speculation……..

Practically every word of alleged criminality that has appeared on football blogs in recent days is wide off the mark.  Please remember the basic rules of law and our own rules of good manners.  Do not accuse anyone of a criminal act, doing so may be illegal and could undermine any future prosecution.  If they have been charged, use the word ‘alleged’ until a conviction is secured, and most pertinently of all, if you are so insistent that your information is true and just must be read, leave your name and address with your comment.  If you email me your address, for verification I’ll send you a postcard with a code, which you can return to me.  Then everyone will know how to get in touch with you to send their congratulations.

Inappropriate humour seems to be ciulturally close to other inappropriate humour that circulates withina certain, not so small, section of our society. Not sure the PCC will be very effective……… they never have been in the past. I would have thought a retraction and apology would be easier and more effective?

  2. Paul, I get what you’re saying, but can’t help a wee chuckle of anticipation at the phrase “Practically every word of alleged criminality that has appeared on football blogs in recent days is wide off the mark …”

As no less a figure than Craig Whyte once said: “What they are saying is 99 percent crap”.

A ‘Yes’ campaign launched with a swathe of ex-pats who’d be horrified at the prospect of actually coming back here to live. The only one missing was ole Dave King.

  4. Hi Paul67,

Are you expecting any ‘news’ today? Will there be another article, or can I get some work done? :-)

  5. I believe that one of the ‘celebs’ who gave a speech at the launch of the SNP ‘YES’ campaign is now actually a citizen of the good ol US of A!!

Gordon….. How might Scottish Labour Action advise us to vote given that we’re sitting with yet another Tory Government?

    kit,

I want them removed for one reason only.

The scottish establishment would no longer have the smoke and mirrors to allow sectarian scotland to continue to tell the world its just a football thing.

People have been murdered and its been put down to “footbal rivalry” when in fact we know the motives are far more sinister.

With no hun, any such violence will properly be categorised as sectarian racism.

  9. Who made the snide comment about the Thai Tims may i ask? Billy Dodds article was a hilarious read. I love the first comment below it where the guy compares it to the Tory MP from Little Britain who keeps trying to explain away him being caught in gay clinches whilst the wife and kids stand by him!

  12. A DR editor would, of course, have read that column before approving it for print. I assume it would be the sports editor who deemed it suitable for print. I wonder if he/she would approve jokes pertaining to David Murray not having a leg to stand on in court. Nothing that DM won’t have heard in jest but not PC in print.

The Thai Tims reflect everything that is good in humanity. People like Cowan think they are comedians by attacking the vulnerable for a cheap laugh.

Nope but under a shadowy moonlit sky. he does resemble her in appearance.

  14. Folly Folly, aye, but it seems that one or two people have tried to figure out what is going on, have latched onto the wrong end of the stick, and have then been followed by thousands.

StevieS, there will be another article soon but I’m not expecting actual news today. Which, of course, is news in itself, so perhaps I have misled you here. In fact, chances are there will be two more articles.

    So confusing.

    Row z, aye.

  15. Can we keep politics off this board please?

I despise Nationalsts and Nationalism in all it’s seedy, myopic, naval gazing, small minded forms but I wouldn’t post those views on here, it’s a fitba’ forum.

  16. Would anyone be kind enough to (cut & paste or) put up a link to ‘Barcabhoy’s’ post on RTC hinting at nuclear revelations … ?

  17. Tam Cowan is repeating a “joke” that many a rangers fan has told me

Tam Cowan should watch a few videos on you tube about the Thai Tims

anybody that is claiming Tam Cowan is not racist, hang your head in shame

  18. Bawsman,

To be a pedant it’s a blog not a board.

I generally post links to my own blog here – Paul has no problem with that. I figure it is less intrusive to post a link than an entire article. If folk want to go to the link and read the article great, if not they can scroll on past.

  23. “Nationalism is not to be confused with patriotism. Both words are normally used in so vague a way that any definition is liable to be challenged, but one must draw a distinction between them, since two different and even opposing ideas are involved. By “patriotism” I mean devotion to a particular place and a particular way of life, which one believes to be the best in the world but has no wish to force on other people. Patriotism is of its nature defensive, both militarily and culturally. Nationalism, on the other hand, is inseparable from the desire for power.

The abiding purpose of every nationalist is to secure more power and more prestige, not for himself but for the nation or other unit in which he has chosen to sink his own individuality.”

    – George Orwell

  24. Bawsman what about Irish Nationalism and Irish Nationalists, are they despised too.
