The defence has seen most additions. Jozo Simunovic, Saidy Janko and Dedryck Boyata arrived, with Tyler Blackett on loan from Manchester United. Belgian, Logan Bailly, came in as our backup keeper after a decent career in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.

Two attacking midfielders were signed: Scott Allan, who has made a couple of cameo appearances, and Ryan Christie, who will further gestate in Inverness until the end of the season.

Nadir Ciftci was the manager’s primary striking target, and although he arrived early in the window, his start has been hampered by a six game domestic ban, while the Champions League qualifiers arrived too early for him. A lot of store is being placed on his and Leigh Griffiths’ shoulders.

Will they be stronger than the Griffiths, Scepovic, Guidetti offering of last season? Will they be good enough for the challenge ahead? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen (and opposed to send me inappropriately emotional messages).

I read lots of comment about Steven Fletcher or and Michu potentially coming to Celtic over the last few days. They were players who Celtic enquired about earlier in the window but neither was interested in coming to Scotland. They are in the league they want to play in, we were not remotely on their radar.

Oh, and the van Dijk deal was for £13m, not the £11.5m reported earlier. Think we might have some Fraser/Victor reflected value in this deal.

That’s all folks!

  1. So if a player doesn’t want to come to Scotland, and you can understand why, should we not be trying to sign someone who does want to come to join us?

Is two strikers enough for the amount of games we will be playing between now and December?

Have we given up on our scouting team to identify an available striker given their lamentable record in recent years? You would hope the answer to the last question is yes.

I think where Celtic are concerned it’s understandable that we get emotional Paul. Though you are of course correct if someone has said something inappropriate.

  3. So should I Donate another £132 ( 2 sets of tickets) to Celtic for their Europa League campaign ?

Stronger coming out of this window than going in? Yes, the balance sheet is much stronger.

I was going to wait until tomorrow, will probably post again then. However, I am too being likened to a Drama Queen.

We are going into a European competition with a Manager who either refuses to or is unable to change tactics. We go into the competition with a weekend side that we had for the UCL qualifiers. We do so with a relatively young squad, despite Ronny saying we needed to get some experience in to help the young Bhoys. Who has failed us Ronny, The Board, both.

To cap it all off we we have failed to strengthen the one remaining area after Left Back position that we have yearned to strengthen since when.

I have posted before, we gambled on black and it came up red.

I have posted before we have to speculate to accumulate. Not asking to spend what we cannot afford but come on, spend a few quid to show we mean to take the UCL/Europe seriously, not play at it.

It was said last year we have a year to prepare for the qualifiers. Now we are saying the same. Only things is we now only have January to prepare, leaves us about 4 months to bed the Players in for the qualifiers.

It is going to be a long Season.

Drama Queen, that’s me, guilty as charged.

    Disappointed, just a tad…:(

The most underwhelming transfer window ever

    …………………

You must be as young as Sevco. I’m old enough to have lived through the Willo Flood transfer window. Still sends a shudder down my spine.

  14. Mncelt yes he has done a sterling job of improving the team each transfer window and qualifying for the CL every year…….oh wait!

But at least he has presided.over good attendances at CP……..oh wait.

But the squad is clearly filled with quality valuable players……oh wait

Well at least he treats the supporters with the respect they deserve…….oh wait

At least he made sure he buried the Huns when they died……oh wait.

But we are the most ethical club in the world…….oh wait.

I’m struggling MNcelt. Maybe he got that extra 100k non contractual bonus for putting up,so,e posters around the ground.

But hey let’s all get arrogant around the 13m for VVD while not getting near a striker.

    Cake all round I think?

  15. the glorious balance sheet on

I think this is going to be a difficult season.

Our three strikers have 5 goals between them in 48 European appearances. One of these strikers faces ongoing criminal proceedings in the Republic of Ireland, the other in Scotland. I`m not saying this will definitely affect their game but it cant help.

The third striker is still finding his feet at the club but has a history of disciplinary problems. Factor in injuries and we wont often have 3 to choose from so it may be a very good time to be a striker in the development squad; first time football might never be easier to achieve for a young striker at Celtic.

Add in the ongoing fragility of arguably our best remaining outfield player – Lustig – and a defence that is full of new and inexperienced personnel then even the Europa League looks well beyond us this season. We will in my view do well to keep the score down in Amsterdam and Istanbul. While getting horsed by Barcelona in the CL is painful, there is no shame in it. Getting pumped by Fenerbahce and Ajax is a different matter but I think damage limitation has to be the order of the day in these games, we don`t have the quality to keep the ball up the other end of the park as the performance in Malmo showed.

Fingers crossed we don’t pick up injuries in this round of international games. Difficult trips to Amsterdam and Aberdeen await.

There is no acceptable reason for the negligence not to sign a forward.

Looking forward to you justifying the £8M nett spend, seems to me, we weakened the team and made a nett profit on transfers.

Still look forward to seeing your figures.

You made a great post earlier this summer about Celtic’s need to get to the level where they qualify for the UCL on a regular basis.

  19. From STV

Celtic have completed the signing of Croatian defender Jozo Simunovic from Dinamo Zagreb on a five-year deal.

The 21-year old centre-back has signed for the Celtic Park side and will fill the gap left by Virgil Van Dijk, who signed for Southampton for somewhere in the region of £11 million.

“I am absolutely delighted to join Celtic,” he said upon his signing. I know what a huge club I am joining, one of the biggest in Europe, and I know about its history and its great supporters.”

Simunovic, who has eight caps for Croatia’s under-21 side, played twice against Celtic in last season’s UEFA Europa League, but didn’t feature in either of Dinamo’s Champions League playoff matches against Skenderbeu Korce last month.

The defender joins Ryan Christie in moving to Celtic Park on transfer deadline day and completes a busy transfer window for Celtic, which has seen eight new additions to Ronny Deila’s squad.

“He is a very talented young player and good on the ball, but he will also give us strength and stability in defence. I am sure he will be a success for us,” said Deila.

“I believe what we have done in the summer has given us a squad with real depth for the season ahead.”

Two young Scottish midfielders to come in and replace senior aging players down the line.

Cover at left back at last

    A promising right back

    Cover for Craig Gordon

    Good money for VVD

Scepovic out the door – would never have played if retained anyway

Some more young players out for experience for next season

The manager is slowly building his team

    Negatives?

    No VVD anymore

    No quality striker

    Darnell Fisher out on loan

No quality for Europa league in the striking department

Derk is still on the books?

The manager is slowly building his team.

I said it all along Matej Jelic at MSK Zilina. A striker who wouldn’t have cost much and would have done us a turn.
