The enormous building maintenance costs for Celtic Park

529

Over the years I’ve gone on about the cost of running a football club the size of Celtic.  Before you start to employ a footballer, coach, or someone to put the cones out at training, you’ll be pushed to spend less than £17m.  If you want to have appropriate resources in place, you’re going to spend more than this.

The club spend a lot of money each year on building maintenance at Celtic Park (have a guess?).  The fabric of the building, plumbing, painting the steps, fixing the locks, ensuring electrics and heating systems are safe, costs a small fortune at a stadium that size.

There is a tendency to think of Celtic Park as ‘new’, but it’s not.  It recently entered its third decade, and like any building that age, with large areas exposed to the elements, it requires a continuous programme of renewal and repair.

Structural damage can happen to any building during a storm, it’s not necessarily a sign the building’s been under-maintained or is otherwise dangerous.  But when parts of the roof hang free over the heads of spectators, as happened at Ibrox last night, lots of things need to be checked.  Starting with the maintenance records.

My preference would be that games are cancelled during high winds.  Better safe than sorry.

Annual building maintenance cost of Celtic Park is £800k (not counting Lennoxtown or the Superstore).  That’s a lot of money to find, if you were scrapping by on emergency loans.

Did stokesy get a suspension due to the tweet or does it relates to the Scott Allen injury that he was warned about his conduct?

It appears Cameron has upset his opponents who will vote against the motion to bomb Syria by calling them terrorist sympathisers. The man is a liability are there not enough people bombing Syria? Use the money saved on not bombing and support the poor and eradicate the need for foodbanks. H.H.

  6. Millerston Tim,

I think it’s down to Stokesy not being good enough to get away with his persistent off field antics.

And don’t get me started on those gash corners he blames everyone else for. ;)

  13. millerston tim – what Scott Allan injury?

If Stokes go, all the best to him. Been decent for us in patches.

However, personally I would be happy to let him go, I think it would be best for all those invloved. I always felt he thought he was better than he was, always going for the hollywood finish or pass and unfortunately it just didn’t come off anywhere near enough.

Ref the current debate and vote in the commons. I am watching on State Broadcaster (Sky 503) and keep seeing the ticker tape along the bottom of the screen saying up to 50 Labour MPs will vote with Cameron In favour of military action, and I have two questions.

    1) Why are Labour MPs voting for military action at all? Never mind such knee jerk military action, with no proper military strategy to defeat the enemy ( who’s name has changed incidentally in the course of this debate).

    2) Will they be named? Because no politician who is willing to put every resident of this country in mortal danger, and refuses to learn the lessons of previous Ill thought out military incursions in the Middle East, but lines up behind the banner of Socialism, will ever get my vote. Tony Benn, I suspect, is turning in his grave.

If people think that Obama and his Neo-Con infested administration was bad… What’s coming next is going to be even worse, much worse.

Hillary Clinton and her her merry band of evil Zionists aren’t only determined to initiate a third world war, they are actually banking on starting it.

  24. ISIS is a con. We have NATO members actively supporting ISIS through buying stolen Syrian and Iraqi oil off them . In other words financing them while also lining there own pockets (Turkey) . Obama and Cameron come out strongly in backing Turkey in the last days in the full knowledge of whats been going on. The US and UK allowing the convoys of 100’s of turkish-isis oil tankers to move freely across Turkish Syria borders.

I would say this is an even bigger scam than Bush and Blairs WMDs in Iraq.

  25. I post without comment.

Pope Francis: “I understand that 80 per cent of the world’s wealth is in the hands of 17 per cent of the population; I do not know if this is true, but it is likely, as this is how things are. … It is an economic system in which money, the god of money, is at the centre. … And if things continue in this way, the world will not change. … In Kangemi, where I spoke clearly about rights, I felt great suffering. … Yesterday, for example, I visited a paediatric hospital, the only one in Bangui and in the country! And in intensive care they do not have the instruments to provide oxygen. There were many malnourished children, many. And the doctor told me, ‘Here the majority will die, as they have malaria and they are malnourished. … And those people who hold 80 per cent of the world’s wealth – what do they think of this?”

  27. Paul’s point about the ‘basic’ costs that have to be met at a club before a ball is kicked is one of the things that has really stuck with me these past three years. And it is one that seems not to have been acknowledged by anyone who has been operating the post-liquidation basket of assets bought by Charles Green in 2012…

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan say they will give away 99% of their shares in the company to good causes as they announce the birth of their daughter Max.

Mr Zuckerberg made the announcement in a letter to Max on his Facebook page.

He said they were donating their fortune to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative because they wanted to make the world a better place for Max to grow up in.

The donation amounts to $45bn (£30bn) at Facebook’s current value.

However the shares will not be donated to charity immediately, but over the course of the couple’s lives.

Were Mr Zuckerberg to give away 99% of his shares immediately, he would still possess hundreds of millions of dollars. Ms Chan’s worth has not been documented.

Max was born last week, although her birth was only made public on Tuesday.

In his letter Mr Zuckerberg said the aim of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is “to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation”.

Its initial areas of focus will be personalised learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities. HH
