The international precious commodities

505

The first reaction to the international break is never positive: “How many players do we have away and what condition will we get them back in?” The team which stopped the ten had more representatives at the 1998 World Cup than any other side (a remarkable achievement), but we caught a cold from these exploits the following season.

Leigh Griffiths would no doubt be delighted to start for Scotland this week. Representing your country is one of the things footballers look back on in their later years, so for his own sake, I hope Leigh gets the call, but for Celtic’s I’d be quite happy for him to have a quiet couple of weeks.

Griffiths, Scott Brown and Nir Bitton are precious commodities to Celtic right now, we can’t afford international mishaps for any of them. There’s better cover for the others who will be on international duty, but Stefan Johansen in particular looks like could do with a break.

You’ll know Packie Bonner’s autobiography, The Last Line, launches this month. Packie has a night at Walkabout in Glasgow on 29th October, where the big man will speak about his career, and many other things, past and contemporary. Tickets are available here.

Bobby, don’t disagree with much of that. Blog hasn’t changed much in my opinion. I enjoy the different contributions. Still the best Celtic blog. Good contributors and simple format.

Starry, just jesting. Got a beard myself.

  3. Time and IQ level prevents me from posting as much as id like.

Sometimes i have the time and like to open my gob.

The IQ bit is the main problem though so the rest of the time, its better to keep it shut!

Love to read what you bhoys are saying though and i think i learn something every day i visit.

I liken some of the debates to a game of tennis and feel im looking back and forward at each player to see if they are gonna manage to make a return.

Sometimes im nodding in agreement with 1 then the other comes back with things from a different angle and i say….ah…..and then find myself agreeing with them!

It can be brilliant at times.

Really do not know where some of you get the time but it can be great to read.

Its a shame when insults get fired though.

That really does waste so much and some of it perhaps comes from some bitterness between posters who have had some long running battles.

The thing is id say most of the posters that get like that are clever and have so much more to them than that.

Perhaps a bit of moderation is needed so the initial insult is given a warning and the poster can apologise for doing so before a slaggin match ensues.

Just wish some could bury the hatchet and let things go but thats up to them i guess.

Life really is too damn short for grudges……better to have a laugh instead.

Were it not for middle class socialists, I wouldn’t have half the books, music and movies which I do. Therefore I can’t be too scornful.

  10. Prosecutors in Spain have dropped tax charges against Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi but will pursue a case against the star’s father.

If convicted, Jorge Messi faces 18 months in prison and a €2m fine.

Both Messi and his father were accused of defrauding Spanish authorities of more than €4m (£3.1m; $5m).

Prosecutors allege that Jorge avoiding paying tax on his son’s earnings by using offshore companies in Belize and Uruguay between 2007 and 2009.

Messi’s lawyers argued that the player had “never devoted a minute of his life to reading, studying or analysing” the contracts.

Loved watching Savicevic with Milan when football Italia was on channel 4. That goal he scored in the EC final hammering of Cruyff’s Barca was stunning, as was that whole team, really.

The beautiful game when Dejan was playing it.

  12. I never get logged out. Well hardly ever. Using iPad. No problem with ads.

Also no problem with posts or posters. Say what you want. Free speech and all that. I read them all, though only skim through the night owls. I Take heed of the information in some and ignore others. I’m old enough to discern those which are important to me.

The articles at the top of the site is where comments are. This is written by Paul and there is a graphic that appears with this / it says Blog & Comments.

All other features come from CQN Magazine – none are cut and paste! – and all are illustrated by a photograph, usually taken by Geo who attends all games for us.

Comments are closed on all these features as that was a collective decision taken on here when we canvassed opinions at end of 2014.

One other factor to mention – which is the reason there are some login issues – is that CQN also moved to a bigger server while preserving 11 years of articles and comments.

The new server set-up needs time to settle in and it has been helped by its teething issues being lumped in the new format.

Hebcelt – wise words. It’s good that you are back on the blog. I was looking at the file from CQN Annual with all the names of posters at the time of compilation – autumn 2013 and then 2014. I might compile them and post.

Then talking to Michael O’Neill, they are doing the same thing.

I.E. Taking a chance on an untried manager.

  24. I see Houston is up before the beeks because he said that referees Favour Rangers. Who actually comes up with these charges,Is it the SFA, or the Refereeing committee, maybe the Orange Lodge,Or the Masonic Hall We need to Know.

The numbers are given out of courtesy and are always accurate.

You can’t distort the figures for advertising purposes or any other reason as the advertiser is seeing the same stats as we are.
