Ticketus show their muscle

268

It’s still difficult to differentiate news which sounds important with information that is important.  Rangers doing a deal to retain their (underperforming) players for their remaining meaningless leagues games was news, but not important information.

Administrators amended their contracts to include release clauses.  This means that although top players have taken a hit on their wage packet, they will at least earn something, whereas redundancy would have left them without pay until the summer.  Their agents are also able to line up deals for them with other clubs.

In other unimportant news, Steven Davis and Neil Alexander both put their homes on the market yesterday.

The important information came from Ticketus, who own what will be the vast majority of season tickets for the next three seasons, and have partnered with Paul Murray and various supporters’ organisations to bid for Rangers.  Ticketus will not be top of Murray’s list of partner organisations but he will realise the club is in their control.

The consortium’s stated aim is to emerge from administration via a CVA, which I still regard as absolute fantasy.  As Phil Mac Giolla Bhain reminded me with his article from January, HMRC already rejected an offer of £10m to settle from Craig Whyte, notions that they would be prepared to accept less now is hilarious.

Rangers will liquidate.  Duff and Phelps plan to sell their league membership share to a new company leaves Ticketus ownership of the tickets in place.  Plans to sell the league membership to a consortium headed by the company that enabled Craig Whyte to work his magic, and a director from the old improper-contracts regime are, literally, incredible.

We must remain resolute and do everything in our power to escape from this sorry messy of a league.

CQN Magazine issue 6 has sold out, many thanks for all your support.

The Mbassy as Blantyre tim says is good for Celtic fans and the CSC there are usually there in force.

If the game is son Sky they’ll show it.

Failing that go to Nic Nowego which is not too far away. They show Celtic games as well.

    http://www.nicnowego.com/

There is the Irish Arms as well but they don’t open until late.

The Mbassy is full every weekend with expats and Uk and Ireland visitors.

Nic Nowego is usually much quieter.

Both have incredibly beautiful barmaids who all speak English, tell gullible punters that they are single and would like to meet with you later. Later turns into too many pints and you forget all about it while you’ve parted with 400-500 zloty.

Take it from a man who knows. I’ve seen it many a time. So long as you keep spending money, they’ll smile sweetly but then again I love the MBassy as I saw us win the title there on Tommy Burns Thursday.

Take it easy with the Zywiec (nice beer to start with, later you’ll feel like death).

I spoke to a Spanish journalist on holiday in 2002 who told me they adhered to it strictly. It is incredible.

BRTH, I certainly will be looking out for them more now, their all round play was just fantastic, taking the ball in tight spaces, shifting the ball around brilliantly, short passes, triangles, perpetual motion, it was a geometry lesson !!

Unless someone spills I don’t think we will ever know who is behind the Ticketus investment. No doubt the next figurehead will be the cleanest of the clean. All very dignified. However the money will be filthy dirty & clouded in mystery. They are desperate to do a CVA to preserve their tainted history. Surely HMRC wont deal but TBH I wouldn’t be surprised by anything at this stage.

I only hope Celtic are watching carefully and maybe have an escape route already lined up. As what we are watching just now in regards to Rangers, The SFA, Media & the gang of ten is IMO the biggest con trick in history.

Fascinating stuff – many thanks. Love those wee anecdotes that give you an insight into a person’s character. Partitioning the ground with tape? I’ve had similar thoughts myself about Ibrox, but for non-footballing reasons…

As far as I know there isn’t one specific investor in Ticketus. They are owned by an investment company called Octopus who invest investors funds in a variety of schemes, one of which is Ticketus.

The idea is you give your money to Octopus and they give you a return each year on your investments. Your money is split and goes into a variety of schemes.

Strictly speaking, that depends on what you mean by ‘Irish’, but I’ll take it you mean players from the Irish Free State (Republic of Ireland). Only four players from the Republic of Ireland have been on the books of Rangers: Alex Stevenson (who would later go on to manage the Irish national side), Alex Craig, James Lowry McAuley, and Reuben Evans, although the latter never played for the first team. As for players from Northern Ireland, the list is far too long for me to mention!

So what your saying is an individual investing in Octopus would have no control to where their money is directed?

Was Octopus not something to do with one of the current Admin team?

  18. Ellbhoy

Yeah, once you give them your money, you have no control on what they do with it but overall they are quite successful for investors.

Thing is, IF they are all interconnected in some way (and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility) then surely D&P would have had to declare any interests (or conflicts of interest) at the time of their appointment? I know we’re dealing with some shady people here but these two are part of a bigger, respected company and surely the stakes would be just too high?

Although like others I will have a good laugh should it happen, in the longer term, I hope that liquidation does not take place.

Liquidation will only give the cosmetic shield of a newco to those, including DD and PL who might like to sweep some of the present morass, and the embarrassments it entails, under their carpets.

It is a strange place football to put clients money as Octopus have done, football is known to be a money pit ask the many millionaires have seen millions pour away in there football dream. However, before ticketus put a single penny into Rangers they must have had some security currently the problem is no one but ticket us and Craig Whyte know what the security is.There is much more to come out of this and anybody who thinks Rangers are even near to being out of the mire is deluded.H.H.

I have a pal who used to work for Brian Kennedy on the business side at Sale Sharks. When I mentioned the idea of Brian Kennedy buying Rangers his comment was ” Well if he buys it then I hope the Rangers fans don’t expect much by way of investment! He doesn’t do big on investment!”

I think Kennedy’s interest will wain, but if he does buy I think you will see some for of Rugby at Ibrox as well as football, and I don’t know how well that will go down in Govan.

It is Athletic Bilbao, and they had a number of famous English managers one of whom managed them wearing a bowler hat! There is some story or other, which I forget at the moment, which meant that he had to order 20 or so at a time. I think his name was Fred Pentland.

I can’t imagine Dermot D and Pete L are sitting on their hands but the Celtic support will not be found wanting in demanding fair treatment for ALL clubs – including of course, our own.
