Tom, Brendan and don’t ask Chic Charnley for a job reference

729

What is the cost of Tom Rogic’s continuing absence for another two months?  Tom has scored more than a few winning or equalising goals over the last two years.  We could need him to deliver the third leg of the treble, or to keep the winning run in the league going, but this will not be the real cost.

Tom has been robbed of a precious three months during the most effective spell of his professional life.  He improved with every passing month, got stronger, lasted the entire game and even scored a last minute winner.

With competition as it is at Celtic, he’ll be distraught.  The personal target of all those who have been on an upward trajectory this season is to put their name on the team sheet for the summer’s Champions League qualifiers.  For a player who the manager insisted worked for months before he was relied upon to last 90 minutes, any time he gets before the end of the season will be about recuperation.

For now, there should be no personal targets for Tom apart from being fully fit come June.

You know when you read a nugget which encapsulates much of the journey Scottish football has been on in recent decades?  Chick Charnley yesterday on Jim Duffy: “When I played for him at Dundee and Hibs, he would give me Mondays off because he knew I enjoyed my weekends.”

And that was Chic making the case that Jim should have a higher job!  Cheers.

Another quote to consider, this time from Brendan:

“There are three types of supporters. The first type who absolutely love you because you are the manager of Celtic.  It doesn’t matter what you do, they’ll give you shirts and want you to sign everything.

“The second group are: ‘Okay, we’ll give you a chance and let’s see how you do. See if you win games and I’ll decide’.

“The third group, that’s the group who if you won five they’ll say you should have won seven. ‘You won 5-2? Why did you let in the two goals?’ You can never win!”

I wonder if he’s spoken to Gordon Strachan?

Oldtim

A question for those of you who have been here since the early days:

Oldtim made a significant first post on CQN but neither he nor I have a copy of it.  It was, however, copied and referred to by many in the months that followed.  If you have a copy, let me know.  Thanks.

I thought I understood the personal impact of KANO’s illness.

    Oh,I fell well short.

    KITALBA explained it.

I never had the chance to “converse”with KANO.

    KITALBA knew him,was his pal.

I can’t imagine how difficult it was for KITALBA to write that post. But I’m bloody glad he did.

“We need Warburton style football coaches in this country. It’s the kind of thing Brendan Rodgers also tries to play” – John Hughes in today’s papers.

*I was laughed at on here for saying he’s a soup taker after his “it’ll be great tae see coisty, durranty etc” talk. I also have memories of him laughing and joking with the FGB and giving him bear hugs during deidco games. IMHO he’d take the sevco job in a heartbeat.

Never a Celt, he’s a hibbee and how many of them have capitulated through the years including the black sunday lie doon mob when the home captain in a bossie tae the huns never crossed the halfway line.

Meanwhile, 2 year later a future Celtic captain on a similar bossie not only scored the equaliser in a 2-1 home victory against us but was also booked. I suppose that separates the man from the Bengal lancer.

  4. BMCWP ….. although going back to Feb 2009 to get kitalba’s post, was maybe a visit to a better time in CQN communication – the same might not be able to be said for the team !!

This was donegaldanny’s post of proposed team picks for the next game …… we might not want EVERYTHIING to go back to the way it was in 2009 !!!

If yes, what time does it open (3pm ko) & how quickly does it fill up / close ?

  6. Just a quick post to say hell from Japan. Long time lurker, finally decided to register and mibbe’s chip in ma tuppence-worth now and again.

Been a Celtic supporter for 50 years now – seems an awfy long time when you see it written down…

Used to go to the games with my Dad who sadly passed away in the August of 1988, (only 54) after the Centenary season victory. After that I found it difficult to go as it was heartbreakin’ not having ma’ Father standing next to me inside Celtic Park.

So, anyways, here ah am now. 54 too… Been battling cancer for the past 5 years – currently back on chemo – but reading CQN and watching the transformation in the team since Brendan took over has fair cheered me up & given me extra-strength to beat this bugger of a disease.

Got a wee rescue cat from the Home 3 months back – Bobby – named after Mr. Murdoch, probably the best player I’ve seen in the Hoops, but some days it could be Lennox, hence ‘Buzzbomb’.

Right, fingers crossed for Sunday. Just hope ICT dinnae try and kick us off the park like the last game we had wi’ them. Scunnered about Tom Rogic; hopefully Stuart Armstrong will make it in time. Still no’ 100% sure about Boyata, but I’ll be shouting him on just the same as the rest of the Bhoys.

Aw the very best tae ye’s

    Welcome to CQN.

Just had a look at the Seats Sold map and it looks like we will be lucky to get 30,000 at the game.

I know it`s on the Telly but as ICT are the only team in Scotland to have stopped us winning a game and as the Scottish Cup is the most difficult part of the treble (now), I would have expected in the region of 40,000.

  11. So statos – Dembers has not only scored in three straight games against Sevco but he has scored a goal in his first three games against them – I don’t know the answer to this but has anyone else done that? On this occasion you can include goals against the now dead version.

Absolutely agree – Hughes will take any king’s shilling. I’m sure I read some comments on here touting him as Hoops manager. Never in a million years!

BTW – ye were laughed at on here? Wouldn’t worry too much about that….

Starry Plough – I’ve been in Hiroshima goin’ on 20 years now. Met ma’ wife in back in Scotland and lost ma’ job a wee while after we got married, so decided to give Japan a try. Hiroshima’s awright, but has been growing at some rate over the last 10 years… mair & mair concrete. Miss Scotland, but can only manage to get home mibbe once every 4/5 years as we’ve two laddies, (teenagers – both Celtic daft, as it should be!), to pay for as well.

no been back since I took ill… some day tho’ & I’ll be heading for Celtic Park to see the Bhoys in Green. cheers.

Hot Smoked – many, many thanks to you an’ aw – lookin forward to ‘them’ getting skelped the morn and us putting a few past Foran’s shower ay hackin bast***s on Sunday. Just hope the Celtic TV stream is better than it has been th last few games.

Well done Liverpool, should’ve been done a long, long time ago.

  15. Afternoon folks,

Just some observations below, not looking to upset anyone, so hope it’s not taken in that context.

Very enjoyable reading some of the old posts that were re-posted. I started lurking and occasionally posted from about 2010.

Originally for me the attraction was the truthfulness of the news about what was going on in Scottish football and how much the MSM news was distorted. I had always realised that the bias was against us and pro the dead team, but the accuracy of the reports from Paul was an eye opener. (And complimented by Big Phil and Paul McConville’s articles at that time)

But the added attraction for lurking almost everyday on CQN was the sheer variety of interesting topics shared by posters. And at that time most posters were polite. It really was quite educational at times.

The recurring theme always was our love for Celtic, and as we love the team in different ways, the differences were mostly respected and tolerated as such.

Sadly for these last couple of years, for me the respect of different opinions has diminished somewhat on the blog. Often ending in childish arguments and insults.

However the love of Celtic is still there, and there are still many fine people who post and I know a lot of good folks still lurk.

Here’s hoping things improve on the blog for the future. On the park we are in my opinion entering a golden period (for a long as we have Brendan at the helm). I am hoping that some of the chasms between the board and some of the fans can be closed in the not too distant future and the whole of the Celtic family can enjoy this golden period together.
