Topping agitates for a fans’ revolt

593

“The best hope for the Scottish game? It’s in the activity the fans bring to bear on big organisations.”

“Fans don’t realise yet how much change they can bring about”.

Not the words of a blogger-agitator, the words of out-going SCFL chairman, Ralph Topping, trying to incite fans to revolt against TV companies.  In the same valedictory interview to The Scotsman, Topping acknowledged the mobilisation of fans against governance standards at the SPFL, but turned his face to the fans.

The man has been in office for 8 years but has been a virtual recluse as far as the paying public are concerned.  Now we know why, he has no filter or self-awareness.

Not good enough, Mr Topping.  You have failed to answer any of the pertinent questions (here) and despite the game being brought into significant disrepute during your tenure, you have now briefed the press that you intend to ignore Celtic’s request that matters are reviewed.

If you want to incite a revolt from football fans, you are on track.  We’ll do what we can, I promise.

  1. TREBLE WINNING CAPTAINS on 17TH JULY 2017 4:08 PM

Three days in Court of Session will cost £200k.

We could be there for 2 weeks maybe.

What if we are awarded costs?

  2. The sinister planting by the sfa of huns in influential positions at uefa once again pays dividends.

    Two ludicrous charges.

Five bookings for the team who were being victimised by thugs and a cheating ref.

Provoking bigots who have shown racist.violent and sectarian behaviour yet get praised by a hun in a police uniform.

Sleekit Dallas prints all over this.Giving him a high ranked and influential job after being proven a liar and bigot shows how much the huns have infiltrated this corrupt organisation.

    Ogilve also.

  3. Now UEFA find racist and Secterian abuse totally acceptable during a game of football .

Wonder what part of the Scottish contingent and blood of our brothers Ulster mob in UEFA influenced these charges against Griff !!

As I said before the fix is in ! Masonic influences in full swing to get Celtic pumpt out of Europe ! The games rotten to the core !!

  4. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

That UEFA charge on LG is nonsense.

Who in their right mind could consider a Celtic scarf a provocation.

What next, being offended by someone’s haircut or trousers or any inanimate object you care to mention.

Offended by green football boots, or maybe offended with Thai children with Celtic strips on.

What a load of pandering, bigoted bulls***.

Seriously, are we just living our lives now to suit bigots ffs

Offended by the Truth more like.

    Don’t be daft.

UEFA are and always have been numpties.

  7. This from Ibroxnoise:

” With all of this talk about stripping titles and fellow clubs up in arms about “cheating”, “financial doping” and “sporting integrity”, it’s time to have a look at where we stand.

With all things legal, we should always look to the past for guidance on how this has been dealt with previously. Fortunately there is precedent in this area – step forward Livingston FC.

In the 2010-2011 season, the Second division was won by Livingston FC. Finishing a strong twenty-three point ahead of their nearest rivals. However, as we skip forward a couple of years to 2014, it is revealed that Livingston were involved in a tax avoidance scheme. They were punished with a £10,000 fine and a 5 point deduction. The deduction comes into force for that current season (2014-2015) and leaves the 7 points adrift at the bottom of the championship. The SPFL also reports on their website:

“This meant that Livingston had been able to register professional players in registration periods when it otherwise would not have been able to do so.”

No if’s, but’s or maybe’s – Livingston had been able to register professional players in registration periods when it otherwise would not have been able to do so.

Let’s jump forward another three years to 2017. A year where there are still no calls to remove that title from Livingston, but the calls to strip Rangers from the title are deafening. We don’t need to look anywhere else in the world for the precedent on this situation. We have it in our own league.”

Is the big difference the use of side-letters? ie Old rangers used them and Livingstone didn`t? Or does the author have a point?

    Monday 17 July 2017 16.41 CET UEFA

Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League second round qualifying first leg match between Linfield FC and Celtic FC (0-2), played on 14 July in Northern Ireland.

    Charges against Linfield FC:

    • Throwing of objects – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)

    • Field invasion by supporters – Art. 16 (2) DR

    Charges against Celtic FC:

    • Player Leigh Griffiths – provoking spectators (after the end of the match) – Art. 15 (1) (a) DR

    • Improper conduct of the team (5 cards or more) – Art. 15 (4) DR

This case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 20 July.

  9. Leigh Griffiths should now refrain from tying a Celtic scarf onto the goalposts after a game.

  10. We are getting some disciplinary record , flags flares and now this. UEFA have Celtic in its sights, we are a problem club in their eyes and I dont suppose this stuff about Corruption of the game here and our complaints about it is welcomed at all by them, they are backing up their member association and will continue to punish the club for any and every rule infringement.Who has the influence , certainly no one from Celtic that is a definite. Now we welcome the scum into our park, and, will be responsibile for what happens in our stadium, with a jobsworth delegate out to please his paymasters to climb the greasy pole. Dallas and Ogilvie strike again

  11. Imatim: Condolences to you on the loss of your brother, Alan.

Ar dheis lámh Dhé go raibh a anam uasal.

  12. Bada Bing

Bang on mate. Celtic have made a rod for their own back with the constant acceptance of every EUFA sanction or punishment without question.

Griffiths’ ridiculous booking has resulted in the second charge of 5 or more bookings. Surely, surely Celtic will challenge this.

  13. Question:

If the Buckie bottle had actually hit Leigh on the napper, and laid him out, what would have been the refs reaction and/or decision?

  14. embramike supporting Res 12 on

About the second charge (Improper conduct of the team – 5 cards or more) – this is a standard charge against any team in European competition who pick up 5 or more cards in any one match. Usually a 5-10K € fine depending on other offences.

  15. What ever happened to the manky mob during their very brief European adventure when the game was stopped at home because of debris being thrown at the opposition goalkeeper?

  16. SIN CITY BHOY on 17TH JULY 2017 4:44 PM

    Question:

If the Buckie bottle had actually hit Leigh on the napper, and laid him out, what would have been the refs reaction and/or decision?

    ————————————————–

With that referee? Red card for Leigh for provocation by smashing a perfectly good bottle

  17. If you look at all the bookings maybe only Broony deserved one as his tackle was reckless in my opinion.

Jozo could have been a quiet word, Rogic was total play acting as he did not follow through or even see the player over his shoulder, Leigh…enough said and stretch for a near career ending tackle received in the 95th minute.

  18. IniquitousIV on

    SIN CITY BHOY

Since we already know that, given any excuse, Celtic will be charged with improper conduct, the smart thing is to not give UEFA any opportunity. Yes?

  19. The game is sickening.

    Corruption is rife.

The sleekit, sniggering huns planted in uefa’s corrupt little kingdom will do everything to harm us.

If not for the team i love i would quit the game.

I only pay to Celtic tv and German and English games are free on my basic cable package as i would never pay for them.

The game will wither due to greed and corruption.

It may be many things but it no longer bears any passing resemblance to sport.

  20. INIQUITOUSIV on 17TH JULY 2017 4:56 PM

After the verbal intimidation and insults, bottle/bananas/batteries/coins/various other airborne debris, you don’t think Leigh is entitled to a non-back-of-the-bus personal statement?

    I do.

It’s a moot point anyway, he won’t be permitted any more such gestures.

  21. Griff charged???!!!! I am astounded of forehead. I expected him to be in a wee bit of bother for the scarf. But the yellow card should have been rescinded immediately. Linfield, their stewards, the PSNI should all be charged with failing to control the crowd, as Celtic players were under threat of serious injury during the game. The referee should also be charged with failing to protect the players under health and safety rules, (we are not out of the EU yet).

If Celtic meekly accept this , i’m finished, I mean that. To me their is a more serious agenda at work here.

  22. At least two of the past fines we have had. a half wit hun could have got us off had we bothered to contest them, but as ever the club are hell bent on not biting the hand that feeds it, maybes uefa would have a tad more respect had we fought our corner once in a while, they may not be so quick with filing unfounded charges.

    MARSPAPA on 17TH JULY 2017 1:29 PM

Linfield chairman Roy McGivern has accused Leigh Griffiths of provoking his supporters.

    No surprise here then .

    ……….

Considering he’s an Orange Lodge member pal, yes, there’s no surprise at all.

  24. ADI_DASLER

I live in the USA and have a basic package that has nbc sports (EPL) and fox (Bundesleague)

They have fOX premium for an extra fee that shows SPL and other leagues but i will not give them money.

There are other premium sports channels that show French.Italian and Spanish for a fee but i will only pay for Celtic tv as i refuse to give money to the corrupt and elite.

I like Spanish football which i watch if on in the bars but i won’t pay money to view.

  25. Also, Even given all the camera evidence I see the bottle throwing culprit has still not been found. You can bet your bottom dollar if he’d been Celtic his name would be all over the pages by now.

  26. Justice is open to everyone in the same way as the Ritz Hotel.

3 days in the Court of Session will cost 200K.

  27. Tricoloured Ribbon on

The onus is fairly and squarely on the Celtic board to confront the cheating.

To the shareholders, season ticket holders and general support they owe it to the fans to face it head on.

The fellas on here, the Res.12 heroes they have done their job.

Now,let’s see what this board are made of.

The fact that the team is going well is masking what has happened.

Are the board hoping that the feel good factor will just carry on.

The collective Celtic support DEMAND justice.

Have Lawwell and co got it in them to confront this corruption?

    I seriously doubt it.

I am happy what the club have said so far, so why the need to ask for 5K ?

It seems to me that insider knowledge knows that the club will be doing no more, or why the need to ask for money, it really isny rocket science.

    Or I am just thick.

Either way this should be for the clubs to sort, just like they did with Res 12….Oh wait

I don’t know where the £5k request came from but its a million miles from my understanding, Celtic are on it and there is more than one way to skin this elusive cat..

I’m not saying it is deserved or that it wasn’t funny….

I suspect he’d have got an internal talking to regardless..
