Topping agitates for a fans’ revolt

593

“The best hope for the Scottish game? It’s in the activity the fans bring to bear on big organisations.”

“Fans don’t realise yet how much change they can bring about”.

Not the words of a blogger-agitator, the words of out-going SCFL chairman, Ralph Topping, trying to incite fans to revolt against TV companies.  In the same valedictory interview to The Scotsman, Topping acknowledged the mobilisation of fans against governance standards at the SPFL, but turned his face to the fans.

The man has been in office for 8 years but has been a virtual recluse as far as the paying public are concerned.  Now we know why, he has no filter or self-awareness.

Not good enough, Mr Topping.  You have failed to answer any of the pertinent questions (here) and despite the game being brought into significant disrepute during your tenure, you have now briefed the press that you intend to ignore Celtic’s request that matters are reviewed.

If you want to incite a revolt from football fans, you are on track.  We’ll do what we can, I promise.

If you say that the club are on it, fine, I accept that.

This is where my post came from………

TREBLE WINNING CAPTAINS on 17TH JULY 2017 3:26 PM

A Protective Cost Order can be granted by the Court of Session where there is a clear public interest present.

An example would be an environmental campaign in the local area against say a new wind farm.

It causes the other side some severe difficulties because even if successful the amount recoverable from the other side is pre-determined and relatively small, say for instance £5000.

I am confident that we could raise that in a day or two on CQN after the Court grants this order.

  2. Embramike

Well the Leigh Griffiths yellow has to be overturned. What did the ref book him for? Not getting out of a danger area quick enough?

Align that assault to him reacting at the end of the game and that is reduced to a warning.

I’d go in legal mob and player union mob handed.

That does not say Celtic are doing nothing. Its a meaning you have read into it.

To me it says WC is looking at alternatives and why not?

We heard bull for the last four years at least that these people would be answerable.

    Aye,that worked out well.

Now,we have this Topping guy pissing all over Celtic and the rest of Scottish football.

    Laughing at us.

    Sickened with it.Sickened.

When the draw for the 1st and 2nd rounds of the Champions League qualifiers were made by UEFA, there was a break in proceedings during the 2 draws so that UEFA could group the seeded and unseeded teams to ensure there would be no potential flash point ties (e.g. Russian and Ukrainian teams etc)

They could easily have placed Linfield/La Fiorita in one of the other 2 unseeded groups as part of their deliberations – but they didn’t. Are they then not partly culpable for the ensuing debacle ?

  8. Auldheid

I trust my judgement, it’s served me well for more than 60 years now.

There is no need for alternatives, this is down to the clubs.

    Bada,

They are giving it here in the North that the culprits are not season ticket holders and it’s gonnae be hard to identity them.

    We’ll see pal.

  10. patmcgrathtakesapenalty on

One close up of THAT bottle shows clearly that there was at least another mouthful of liquid in there. The thrower must have been seriously incensed to let that go.

  11. Tricoloured Ribbon on

    Barney at 5-46,

The only statement you might get from this board is that they are trying to identify who got into Windsor Park against their refusal to take tickets.

  12. Don’t have a problem with UEFA and their petty money making rules, and if you didn’t know Celtic were the like any other club in Europe somehow, anyhow constantly under their scrutiny every season you weren’t paying attention. Had a Linfield player re-entered the field of play to tie a scarf to the goalposts at CP after being substituted – what would Celtic fans say about UEFA if that player was charged. Leigh Griffiths should have been reined in.

There’s an elephant in the room

  13. Just watched an analysis of the Leigh Griffiths on the You Are The Ref website.

Very insightful and fair analysis, one comment they made was, ‘ what would the referee had done if the assistant referee/linesman was at the same side of the pitch as Leigh, they suggest rightly in my view that the referee would have ached differently.

One other comment they made was, ‘maybe Leigh Griffiths made a gesture, who could blame him’ they added.

    ………..

    No Mike.

Celtic should simply have demanded that the tie was played played on the 11th or the Twelfth.

    Demanded it.

They rolled over and allowed the Orange Lodge, the PSNI and the the bigots at Linfield to tramp all over us.

    What an embarrassment.

  15. Griff should consider adopting another ritual…….

as much as I like his GIRFUY scarf stance, I think it crosses a line.

Keep stickin’ the ball in the oul’ pokey Griff, an’ keep chowin’ the Tunnocks.

    UEFA – words fail me.

  16. Leigh tied the scarf to the post AFTER the game was well over. Why were there still scum fans in the ground. It’s not like the Griff lept from the bench at full time, sprinted to the goal picking up a scarf on the way and tied it to the post so quickly that they didn’t have time to leave the ground.

    Really.

From what I saw it was a gesture to the Celtic fans not the home fans.

At least he wasn’t cited for the 5-1 gesture. Because that would have been even more laughable.

  17. BOURNESOUPRECIPE

Griff was silly to tie the scarf.

The booking was criminal and the fact it gave them reason to charge us suggests an agenda.

We are frequently cited for the same transgressions that UEFA frequently ignore.

At Linfield the sectarian and racist chanting was clearly audible but yet Uefa ignore contrary to their own rules have not charged them for this.

Did they have a Scot as monitor who had the same selective hearing he displays every time the huns play?

The NI hun delegate who only saw one set of fans falling foul of the law at Man city was a classic case of a bigot using his position to punish us unfairly.

The constant stream of SFA huns placed at UEFA is a problem as the sniggering, sleekit bigots do everything they can to undermine and punish us.

  18. the glorious balance sheet on

UEFA are a clueless and corrupt shambles of an organisation, bereft of common sense, and who do not give a friar tuck for any football clubs outside of the so-called “big four” leagues.

The yellow cards given to Rogic, Armstrong and Griffiths were an absolute joke that could weaken us in the later stages of CL qualification when suspensions kick in for 2 yellow cards.

It’s bad enough that the Griffiths yellow card cannot automatically be rescinded. But for it to count towards automatic disciplinary proceedings against the club is a joke. Dealing with these proceedings will no doubt cost the club time and money.

    Stuff UEFA.

  19. Rock Tree Bhoy on

This latest UEFA charge has Masonic Fingerprints all over it, Celtic should pay top dollar, get the best lawyer they can afford and fight this case all the way, as a minimum flush out who is behind this ant Celtic agenda at UEFA – assuming they don’t already know. UEFA have seen this match as an opportunity to screw Celtic and have taken it with some relish. Come on Celtic, stand up to these b…….

  20. Tricoloured Ribbon on

So Celtic are charged for excessive bookings and for the Griff incident.

Well, they can’t accuse the Green Brigade this time ;-)

  21. The uefa delegate must have been bought off, no mention of the bananas and the monkey chants directed at Scotty Sinclair, but the scarf incident……

  22. The Huns at UEFA will be high fiveing and sniggering up their blazers sleeves at us being charged.

Timing of announcement deliberate in the hope it provokes our support into another anti UEFA chant or display and giving them more reasons to punish Celtic.

  23. Auldheid

If you are hoping for fans to boycott cup games I think the chances are slim reading the views of many on this blog and others.

  24. I wonder if the performance of the Security Officer for Celtic Hawthorn and Co is ever reviewed and subject to improve or your out warnings, this guy seems useless at his job, in view of the damage done to our stadium at various times by supporters of RFC, Sevco, Aberdeen and Ajax. I think we have one or more trojan horses here. I am not looking forward to his startegy for Wednesday night

  25. Every time anything at all happens there are lads here tripping over themselves having a go at Celtic. If they don’t do this or that “I’m finished etc”.

A Ref gave a crazy yellow against Leigh, if it’s possible to appeal it then yes in my opinion it should be appealed.

Apart from appealing the yellow, there is nothing much else can be done, I assume Leigh will be given a chance to put his side of story re reason for tying scarf to goal post. UEFA will pass judgement and we will all move on.

FFS stay calm, the key thing is we build a formidable football team, confirm our status as No 1 in Scotland & give European Football a good rattle.

I believe we are doing this, I think it’s a great great time to be a Celt, I remember the bad days, I never ever thought I’d live to see Celtic doing what they are doing. I’m just loving it.

  26. What a farce.

Lawyer up and head for Switzerland Celtic.

If we don’t then I strongly suspect that we will play at least one home game in Europe behind closed doors.

    The agenda is blatant.

But no one, no organisation, no association is above the law.

  27. Corky

Good golf today, well done, I assume you were playing at Slievenamon ! how did you manage to put the ball in the hazard on the first ?

Am I forgetting the lay out ? I seem to remember it’s an 8-9 iron, but my memory ain’t what it used to be.
