Incredible pieces of Celtic History that you could win
As you may already know, we have 2 Celtic tops (1 home and 1 away) signed by the last 11 Club Captains of Celtic Football Club spanning the past 53 years of our unbroken history, from Billy to Broony. These items have been professionally designed and framed, containing all the players’ relevant stats. These truly are two of a kind and are a once in a lifetime opportunity to be the proud owner of. The signing of the tops took us around 18 months to achieve and the journey and story behind this was amazing. We plan to share this story with you over the coming weeks.
We are also delighted to announce that the money raised from the Captains tops (and other special prizes) will not only support Shay but also the wonderful work of the Celtic FC Foundation.
This is our plan
The WalkWithShay Campaign is now fully registered with the Licensing Board to run lotteries (raffles); and we are planning to hold our 1st raffle where the First Prize will be the Away Club Captains top, together with many other great Celtic related prizes. The draw date for this raffle will be 25th May 2017 (no need to remind you of the significance of that date). We need help to sell our raffle tickets for £5 each and spread awareness before then. Yes, that’s right, you could win the Away top for just £5!!!! The Home top will be raffled/auctioned or sold at a later date.

67 Supporters Clubs / Groups / Associations / Online Communities/Businesses/Establishments or super Individuals to each sell up to 50 (Lisboa) tickets @£5 each
This will form our Green Battalion

67 individuals to sell up to 10 (IAR) tickets @ £5 each
This will form our White Battalion
You are of course all welcome to sell more or indeed a smaller quantity of tickets, if you so desire. Regardless of what you sell (or buy) we really appreciate your support.
We would like to have all our sellers registered before Monday 3rd April, which is when we plan to go live with the sale of our raffle tickets. There is a bit of work here to ensure we comply with our license, so please contact us now.

Hi all
On the Celtic By Numbers site I collect a lot of data per match but have been wondering how to use that to create “content” that may be interesting digestible (if you like stats!). I have had a go at summarising the last match and welcome any feedback. If useful then I can try and repeat for future games.

Can you explain why he has a PEI of 92% and isn’t a MotM candidate?

PEI is not a magic stat to rule them all. Very simplistically a higher PEI is “better” in that you’d prefer your team to keep possession. So a central defender SHOULD have a high PEI because he should be playing low risk passes. Griffiths usually has he lowest PEI but that doesn’t make him a bad player but it reflects he takes risks, is not generally a builder of play, is always under pressure when receiving the ball. Attackers will have lower PEI than defenders. Your central defs and def midfielders should have the highest – ie low risk passing and strong in challenges plus good decision makers. Attackers take risks and receive the ball under more pressure.
If your centre back had a PEI of below 80% there is probably an issue then you would have to look at their passing (are they attempting a lot of long through balls?), are they losing challenges, clearing it “safety first etc.
Boyata was unlikely to win MoM due to his critical error in being badly positioned and then not reacting when Waghorn was through 1-1 in the 1st half. Boyata has improved in this regard and my next article will on him.

This was the final diary entry that Bobby Sands made as he chose to conserv his mental and physical strength for the fight ahead.
Sadly, on the 5th May 1981 Bobby Sands lost his life, however, the fight against criminalisation was carried forward by 9 of his fellow H-Block comrades. Within months of the end of the Hunger Strike Thatcher had conceded the prisoners 5 demands.

*I watched the film 66 Days on TVO a couple of Saturday nights ago, I had just come in from volunteering at a pre-Lent Chili Night up at the pineapple so it was more poignant.
We Scots of Irish extract can sing all the rebel songs we like, talk eloquently of how” the love one’s country is a terrible thing”, devour tomes and tomes of literature of “the most distressful country the world has ever seen”, marvel at the achievements of the Irish Diaspora and chant “sure aren’t we all Irish anyhow”.
We can also greet and get angry about what we saw as injustices, especially in the work place, at the treatment some of us oulder ones and what the men/women who have gone before us put up with to provide us with the comforts we enjoy today, but in no way can we relate tae to what occurred in the Black North.

OK, I understand that; however, IMHO the player most culpable at the Waghorn (Pen) chance is Sviatchenko. He is meant to be marking Waghorn but lets him get away. See here:

The ball goes by Boyata (he should have blocked it) but Sviatchenko doesn’t track the run of the player he is marking. He is also slow to react when Boyata misses the ball. 2 bigger mistakes from Sviatchenko as I see it.

I think that is a fair comment.
Sviatchenko clears the ball and the momentum take him forward. Waghorn is actually clever in that seeing Lustig is deeper than the other defenders moves to align himself with Lustig (last man) and creeps in behind Sviatchenko. Once Sviatchenko recovers his balance from the clearance he spots Waghorn but then it is too late, especially given the unexpected fact Boyata missed the ball.
So a combination of many factors:
• Sviatchenko clearing taking his body balance out of position
• Lustig being deeper than the rest of the defence
• Clever movement from Waghorn
• Sviatchenko reacting a split second too late to recover his position
• Boyata missing the header through to Waghorn
The “event” based stats will always have limitations as the reality is football is a dynamic game with 22 players in motion. If I had limitless time and expensive tracking software that would be fantastic!

Unfortunately Waterloo isnt the best for decent pubs nearby. The nearest Irish pubs would probably be The Tipperary on Fleet Street or Philomena’s just off Drury Lane.
However, the White Hart on Cornwall Street (just round from the east exit of Waterloo) is a good wee pub with a good atmosphere. It’s not Irish but it’s across the road from St Patrick’s RC church ;)

On the topic of wealthy politicians becoming even wealthier out of office – the former international class poker player and disgraced President, Nixon, used to publish a quarterly foreign affairs newsletter. The letter had a limited circulation of politicians, wealthy businessmen etc.. It cost its readers at least $10,000 an issue. The Big Issue it was not.
His subscribers must have thought it was worthwhile to read Dick’s musings. ‘Tricky’ was often genuinely counter-intuitive eg when the Soviet system imploded he urged the West to launch a new Marshall Plan to save the fledgling democracy. The West ignored him and that’s one of the reasons we’re saddled with Putin.
